How to clean o-rings?

I recently had some Heisenberg in my Aromamizer and it stayed in for about a week… big mistake because I cannot get the smell out of it.

I’ve tried cleaning with hot water, dish washing liquid, isopropyl, baking soda and hot vinegar, … it just stays. The glass and metal are pretty much OK now (after days of soaking-rinsing-soaking-repeat), but there’s just no way I’m getting the smell out of the o-rings (silicone? rubber?) with everything I’ve tried so far.

I do have a spare set I can replace them with, but they were nearly brand new. Any idea what product I can use?
And if all fails, where can I get a bag of original SC o-rings because I will be running out of them?

For anything rubber that keeps a flavor/odor for me I do a white vinegar and water mix. I let the pieces sit in it (bowl or cup) for a couple of hours then rinse. So far it has helped with o-rings, rubber atty holders etc.

I’ll give that a try… I tried with vinegar and baking soda (which causes a violent chemical reaction) but not plain vinegar.
Thanks

Cool. Let me know how it goes. I don’t go too crazy with the vinegar in the mix, I do something like 1 part vinegar, 2 parts water.

@anon28032772 I think @MisterSinner just sucked all the oxygen out of this room. Same vote here.

I was able to buy several O-ring kits for my Aromamizers directly from SteamCrave, but be aware, they took over a month to get here from China, but they do have them on their site:

Thanks, I first didn’t find them, was looking for o-rings but they’re listed under the spare part bag.
But ouch, $8.40 for a single set of o-rings and grub screws, shipping included is not cheap

ya, that too, they’re not exactly cheap, but they are good quality, so if you can’t find em anywhere else, this might be your best bet. Just buy a couple of extras, I did.

Gotcha… 5 bags on order. This tank has a long way to go and they’re extremely hard to get.

Be aware that you can’t do that very often, vinegar will dry out silicon rubber just like alchohol.

Hmm. Have you thought about soaking in some plain pg? Like for a day or two? That’s what I would try next.

Thanks for the heads up :+1:

Six hours of soaking and I can still smell the Heisenberg through the vinegar. Rinsed it off… same thing. I’m afraid this is a lost battle unless somebody else has some other idea.

I do the same thing, white vinegar solution. However if it’s really hard/gunky stuff I use 100% vinegar, put it together with the o rings in the beaker. Spin it for an hour on the stirrer (heater off).

After that I use raw unrefined coconut oil and soak the rings 5-10 minutes. Prevents them from cracking but down side, for the next days everything will smell like coconut lol.

“Elastomer seals should be cleaned swiftly using a clean cloth and lukewarm water”.

If the above does not do the job, you can easily damage some materials.

So basically we’re screwed with our o-rings and should keep a big bag of spares…
