Pugsley's full fat, plucked and tri-powered review of the Think Vape Finder DNA 250

I love animals…let’s just put that out there…not in a sexy way you understand, that’d be a whooole different blog on a verrry different website…but on a whole, me and animals get along very well…which leads me to some mixed thoughts when I see something wrapped in a dead animal purely for cosmetic reasons, In this day and age it’s kinda unnecessary and borderline heartless…it almost makes you wonder…what kind of person comes up with these ideas…

I think there’s a dark corner of Shenzhen that deals in the unnecessary, A stealth company managed by Cruella De Vape and her cronies who specialise in exotic murder and distribution to the surrounding vape industry, and one of these companies in particular…fucking loves it.

Now don’t get me wrong…I’m no vegetarianised vegan yogurt weaving tree shagging hippy, But when I see the words ‘Elephant Skin’ on the side of a mod box…it gives me a shiver, albeit one I soon forgot…unlike the Elephant by all accounts…who apparently never do that…well…you wouldn’t would you…and if you bought the Think Vape Finder 167…I’d keep your eyes open when walking down the street using it…

And now that Elephants…unlike their stature…are a little ‘thin on the ground’…it would seem that Cruella and her cronies are branching out in search of other unsuspecting members of the animal kingdom for their luxurious exotic skins to adorn their clients high powered vaping devices…I mean…where will it end I can’t help but ask myself…

Hmm…that old chestnut…

And a slightly unsettling ‘howdy do’ to you all my more than likely worried by now cloud brigade…I can picture all of your faces screwed up at the screen in utter bewilderment as you try and fathom out wtf I am on about and where the hell I am going with all this…but…you know…you should be kinda used to it by now…and to be honest…I kinda aim for that…so…yeah…dead animals…lets just dive right in there, some have more of a problem with this topic than others and me…welll…I’m kinda on the fence…ish. I eat shit tons of meat, I wear leather, and I don’t hunt so I’m not gonna be a hypocrite and try and be all righteous with the ins and outs of whether it’s morally correct or not…not my place…So when I am sent a device that claims to have some weird leather on the grip just for decoration …well… ok?..take a look and judge for yourself, I present to you courtesy of my partners in crime Gearbest The full fat DNA driven Think Vape Finder 250…and next up on the menu…Ostrich.

Yeah you’d better run…because despite what you think about the idea of this…I think it looks fucking gorgeous…you know…considering it’s wrapped in death…n stuff…

The Finder 250 is the next in an ever growing line of Evolve DNA chip driven devices from Think Vape, A triple 18650 powered device aimed at the more luxurious market and once again…it has more than a striking resemblance to a Lost Vape device known as the Triade, Same chip, same triple 18650, same(ish) design and same use of various animals for the grip. Now I don’t know the ins and outs of these 2 companies and why they are in such constant competitive battle with each other but I am hoping to do a comparison in the near future for these 2 devices and see which fairs better, so keep your eyes open for that…in the meantime however…it’s all eyes on the Finder.

Now this is not a new device, far from it, the speed that new devices hit the market these days practically makes this almost retro, but it has been on my radar for quite some time and the main reason I am reviewing it now is plain and simple…the side effect of an ever more saturated device market…the inevitable price drop…happy days…

Not quite that happy…but good none the less, more on that later, for now we’ll get down and groovy and dance with this little monster and see what it’s all about…

The first impression I got when opening the box was…‘Sinister’ …If Darth Vader vaped, this would be his weapon of choice I’m sure, The red ostrich skin against the satin black body looks slick AF and couple that with the black brushed front panel and the appearance you get is something that wouldn’t look out of place on the office desk of a Sci-fi super villain…

The top of the Finder however is really what distinguishes this device from it’s Lost Vape doppelganger, The black fins surrounding the 510 are both it’s blessing and it’s curse, on the one hand it lends itself to the overall unique dark appearance of the Finder and somehow…they kinda help to hide the overhang you might get on the bigger scale 28 to 30mm RDA’s and tanks, but on the other hand…it’s a pain to keep clean and collects juice and dust continuously…those OCD freaks amongst you might wanna stock up on the q-tips should you pull the trigger on one, The 510 itself has a slight lip which sits around 25mm so anything less than this will happily sit flush inside it, however…this really doesn’t seem to impede bigger tops in any way, I actually prefer the look of the wider RDA’s and RTA’s on this device, I haven’t found anything that doesn’t look epic sat on this thing.

The battery cover is where you would expect it to be…the whole grip, and it is held in place by no less than 6 strong magnets…and when I say held in place…I mean fucking welded.

There is a slight indent on the underneath to get your nail in and prise it open but this thing doesn’t take it’s clothes off willingly believe me…which I kinda like, you know…men like a challenge, there’s nothing worse than picking up your prized device too quickly or by the wrong bit and all of a sudden find yourself uncontrollably juggling your device, 3 batteries and a battery cover for several panic stricken seconds before watching the whole thing come crashing down around your feet on your probably…hard stone floor (never fluffy carpet). I’ve had mods that get naked if you sneeze too close to them…

Ergonomically the Finder is exactly as you would expect, it fit’s perfectly for both trigger and thumb pushers and is not as big and bulky as you would expect for a triple battery device, the grip feels…grippy?..and it’s heavy enough to feel solid without feeling like you are brandishing a weapon.

Now…the fun button, I have a reason and a theory as to why I think that this is where they may have dropped the ball, and I’ll tell you why, Straight edged buttons are prone to sticking. I have never had a device with a round button stick…ever…yet I have had 3 devices now that all had either square…or in this case Hexagon buttons that have this issue, and once again…occasionally …the finder sticks and takes a quick flick to release…it’s such a bad con to have on a device these days and although it hasn’t stopped me using it I am aware of it and on a device that is meant to be in the higher end of the mass produced market it’s a frustrating flaw that shouldn’t be there.

Now…the chip, obviously…it’s amazing, it’s a full blown DNA from Evolve and if you don’t know what these things are capable off then like I have said before, you should really Google that shit because that is whoooole blog all by itself, far too much info to cover in a review, They can be fully customised using the escribe software to your own personal desires and as far as TC capabilities…not my cup of tea but they are proven to be hard to beat in both output and accuracy, and speaking of output, being a tri powered device when it’s says 250w…it means 250w…without breaking a sweat and if you use it more conservatively the extra battery means many more miles before fill ups which is massive bonus with tri powered devices.

The Specs…yeah…I’m over it now…this shit’s inevitable…

OK then…not too painful, said no Ostrich in Shenzhen ever…

My final thoughts on the Think Vape Finder 250w DNA is that this is one hell of a device only let down by the fun button, everything else on it is damn near perfect and I don’t know if mine was slightly defective or if others have found the same issue, I tend not to read other peoples reviews prior to doing my own just so that you only get my opinion unmarred by others, It is possible though that mine’s just a bit dodgy, I hope so, because otherwise I love this device, It’s not too big to be just a desk top mod, it packs a massive punch, it’s put together beautifully, It feels high quality, It looks epic and it fits almost any top with enough umph to light up your chunkiest of coils…there’s not a lot else you really need in a mod…

As I mentioned earlier the main reason for doing this review now, months after release…is the price drop, When this was actually released it was up in the £150 range, and it sold, a lot…so it was kinda on point for a DNA 250, but seeing as it is getting on a bit in vape years there is more than a third of that price tag shaved off the top, currently this amazing device is available here for £96.56 with free shipping to boot…

Think Vape Finder DNA 250 - 1/3 off with free shipping

It is also available in the following different shades of death…

I personally think it is worth the price and I would be interested to find out if others have had button issues too so feel free to hit me up with that…but for now…just look at this thing…it really is fucking gorgeous to look at…

Until next time when hopefully I will be comparing this beast to the Lost Vape Triade DNA 250…

And if you would like to see how this sinister device scored against it’s rivals then please feel free to hop on over to Steampugs, and while you are there feel free to peruse the shop for plenty of bargains and even the odd discount code.

Yours eternally vapeful

Pugs.

Fabulous beaut

It does look very Starwars - like the base of a lightsaber. Not sure about the leather :grimacing:

Great work Brother :+1:t3:.

Don’t misunderstand I’m not an advocate for killing animals to use their skin for something as frivolous as a cool grip cover for a mod. HOWEVER … (there’s always a however). If it makes anyone feel less guilty, they (someone) farm ostriches for use as food or whatever. So it’s not like there’s a band of shady looking Chinese guys out skulking through the Serengeti looking for unwary ostriches to gang up on and steal their skin. These ostriches were born and raised to make the ultimate sacrifice and have their skin sold to the mod manufacturing industry to make grips for our mods . Doesn’t really sound any better does it? Hmm, well anyway …
Great review Pugs !i

Excellent job brother. Think vape make some gorgeous mods and that’s another stunner to add to the collection. No arguments from me about what the chip can do either

Thanks brother, yeah it’s an awesome piece of kit, since I posted it today I have been speaking to quite a few vapers who have all confirmed that their fire button is faultless so it just looks like I got dodgy one lol…it happens.

Don’t be tempted to take it apart to ‘fix’ it.I once did that with a very expensive guitar and it didn’t quite go to plan lol

That thing is gorgeous – but I do not buy leather beyond cow-hide. Cause, look, we already kill like a billion (literally, google it) cows a year – may as well use the skin cause there’s a shitton of it around, and we’re not gonna stop killing cows or (much more importantly) torturing them while they are alive.

So cow leather fine by me, but I ain’t buying any other kind, it’s just. . .what’s the word I’m looking for – not so much egregious as just superfluous.

But yeah, it is a gorgeous mod.

And seriously, this review was a fun read – I was vaguely unsure what I was even reading for a bit there, but man, great stuff.
