My wife just got her first wicked brutal dry hit from my tobh last night…I laughed …and laughed …she wasn’t happy
…that was after the 8th pull in 30 seconds, right? lol
When I was doing the genesis atomizers with SS mesh and a whopping 32 ga kanthal wrapped 3 or 4 times, I remember getting that “holy crap my throats on fire” dry hit when I was super low on juice in the tank or I hadn’t tilted the atomizer far back enough for the juice to flow properly! I wanted to throw whatever set up I had in my hand across the room and through a window, it torched my throat so bad!
Ah, times! (Not good times, just times)
Well, now that i have a decent regulated mod ill give my first impressions. Vaping on a regulated mod is completely different, ive already lost some facial hair…
First thing i did was to setup my new device, grabbed a readied PV @ .3ohms dual coil with 26g 316L. Filled up the PV and jacked it up to 50w. POOOF! Phuking fire! flame shot out of my atty and thats where i lost my hair, lol. There was plenty of juice, im not sure why it happened but it hasnt happened since. Its a very consistent vape, im not sure i like that to be honest. Now my juice is the same juice through the entire battery. Those minor nuances i miss for sure.
I dont know if maybe it is the excitement or what but i went through a fully charged Sammy 25r in about an hour. Even using one single mech, all day, this doesnt happen to me. This device cuts out at 3.7v it seems, i can turn down the wattage but i see no point, im used to charging at 3.7v anyways.
I love the regulated box but i still prefer my mechs for overall flavor. Those inconsistencies are what make mechs my favorite, im not vaping a single juice but a different juice throughout the battery life. This is going to take some getting used to.
I hear ya! No flames from the drip tip yet, but I’m loving my Sig 150w and being able to up/down wattage for the flavor; takes some effort with some mixes, but I’m not packing away my mech mods quite yet! Creature of habit, I am.
What wattages do you find yourself at most? To be honest i thought 50w would be more than enough yet i am surprised at how quickly i was able to vape at 50w. If i end up loving this thing i may need to make one more purchase.
I didnt need that patch of hair anyways, summer will be upon us soon so its shaving time, a little sooner than i expected, hehe.
Tell the truth, haven’t been above about 30w yet! My coils are tiny! 28ga 6 to 8 wrap nano coils. Just the way I roll. Anything higher than 28w with those just about kills me. I find it way to hot and fiery. So, I’ve got a mod with 122w to spare! Need to learn some other coiling methods, I guess?
Using 316L/7 will bring down the temp a bit. So far i find 30-35w to be my sweet spot. I probably wont vape above that much. I got the subtank mini today too, the coils that it came with were crap so i used the RBA base, its now perfect at 30w.
Them extra watts will make you wish that you had an extra lung!
You should get on the Clapton Bus. You won’t believe the Vapor/Flavor. You can build high ohm / low wattage Claptons too. You ever do any twisted wire?
Manipulating flavor with a coil build. That’s how I induce the Flavor factor. When coils are built with different types of wire they heat up at different rates. Certain flavors tend to pop at different temps, so staged heating will produce a flavor that’s different from a standard coil. Notice the color variations in this build. each shade you see is a different temp that’s producing a different flavor in the juices,
a lot similar to what you experience as your battery start to drain. It’s like vaping a fresh battery and one that’s draining all at the same time. Now that’s some serious flavor factor.
I’ve found that Stainless Steel wire (317L or 316L) has the fastest ramp up time I’ve seen. Combine it with any other wire type and you’ll have a staged heated coil.
I can see how this would work. I guess I’ve been on the lazy bus with my coil methods! Perhaps, now that I have a Sig 150w, I can start to branch out with my coiling.
Patience? Can you buy that somewhere? Cause that’s what I’m gonna need a lot of when it comes to the clapton coil!
I suffer from the same disorder. Duals and parallel builds are about as much as much hands can handle.
I just finished vaping a tank of juice from my new Cloupor and WOW this is a game changer! Do you know how many recipes I’m going to have to revisit now because I didn’t think they where any good? If you’re still using a twist style battery do yourself a favor and upgrade! I quit smoking 16 months ago and jumped into this with both feet. I got into DIY juicing and coiling quickly, I’ve spent this entire time making recipes that have been rated 5 stars by countless other only to be disappointed, until now. I think I’m going to go have some fun now!
Yup, it has been a wild ride as of late. I just bought a Sigelei mini 30w to replace the mech mod which I usually take to work with me. I have to say, I do like pressing that button and getting the same results every time.
To hear you say that Jim!!! Sounds like you’ve been fully assimilated
I’m afraid it’s true! I used to use a mech mod for taste testing…not any more!!! To have that coil at the perfect temperature is glorious!
Pro Vapes mentioned this in another thread somewhere and I tried this, I agree with his method since I make my coils like this regularly. Oh, and thanks Pro Vapes for sharing this method, excellent creativity…
@Pro_Vapes…Hey there, Happy New Year…So I am starting to experiment with coils different types of wire combined…eg: 28 gauge Kanthal twisted with 28 gauge SS 316L I vape on a lot of mini Tanks like the Goblin Mini V3,… Merlin Mini by Augvape…Serpent Mini…They all have nice sized build decks…have indeed found interesting effects with the flavor profiles of my vapes with the Kanthal/SS 316L twisteds and am learning how to adjust Ohms of my builds…Here’s my question…Are there any SAFETY considerations to be aware of with the use of combining different wire types ? Do they pose any risks that I should be aware of that are different from simply running straight 1 wire type coils?
The only wires I know to be cautious of is Ti and Ni200. These 2 get extremely hot and will meltdown fairly easily when they are dry. As far as SS and kanthal, combining them poses no issues. Be careful of how thick you twist your wires because it increases the gauge causing lower ohms. Just check your ohms to make sure your battery and mod can handle your builds.
@therabidweasel is our resident metals expert, so maybe he’ll weigh in with more advice.
With VW devices i am doing the same thing what’s been mentioned before, find sweet spot, enjoy consistency. Adjust up and down a bit depending on time of the day and temperature of the tank. When chain vaping i sometimes go up a little bit. On a Crown1 with the 0.5Ohm coils it varies somewhere between 45 and 58 Watts.
But now I’ve discovered PWM and that surprised me a lot. Not sure if all devices behave like this but the one I’m using now (Big Al’s iPWM) is kinda different during the life span of a pair of batteries. With full batteries i get some really strong flavor even on lower voltage and later on i have to turn it up a bit. between maybe 75 and 40% battery power it is nice and consistent but i have to adjust the power slightly. I rarely go below 40% but as long as you adjust the power it is pretty consistent. But the first 20% of a fresh battery are great. Lots of vape but not too hot or overwhelming.
