Yea, her parents had to special order it and have it shipped. Seemed like such a big deal. Well, it didn’t kill me, so I guess the lye was successfully removed.
Lutefisk doesn’t taste so bad, but I totally understand why people don’t like it. The smell is horrendous. Growing up my grandma would make it every Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter.
Now, lefse, that shit is delicious.
Yes the smell was bad, and the jelly-like consistency of the fish seemed unnatural. Lots of butter, lots of salt.
The texture never bothered me, I guess you get used to it when you grow up eating it a few times a year. But it was the smell that still got to me. I still ate a little bit on the side. Kinda liked the taste of it, but a little bit goes a long way for me.
I was definitely more interested in the other parts of the holiday meals. Ham, turkey, stuffing, corn, mashed taters and gravy, and green bean casserole… Mmmm…
Too bad my diet restricts pretty much everything I listed except the ham and turkey…
Oh yes, lefse is soo good.
I think we actually have quite a few nasty smelling courses here lol. But some of them are very tasty too lol
But the bacon that goes with it is ok
Listening to the rest of you reminds me of the only good thing (other than my sons) that I got out of my first marriage. It’s Italian called bagna cauda It’s anchovies garlic olive oil butter salt pepper and chili flakes all mixed purreed served warm you dip bread and raw veggies in it so goood
Well that sounds just delicious
@anon60225325 sorry about the slow reply but we had to run wally world. Funny thing when we got there they had some sort of hazardous situation and the damn thing was closed so we drove 11 miles to the next closest one.
A wonderful way to spend your day
Yeah that and on the way to the second store some idiot I have no idea male or female pulled out in front of me and almost caused an accident. I hit the brakes and thought our car was going to stand on the front wheels there for a minute. I swear I could have touched the car they were in. Scared the hell out of wifey and I.
Must have been a male driver to put you through such an unpleasant experience Hope your heart rate has stabilized again - I hate idiots like that! Good thing you’re ok.
Yeah, I used to drive for a living so although unnerving it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve been through wifey either in fact the reason she’s disabled is some idiot in a pickup hitting her from behind at a stop light he was doing 50 upon impact with our poor little Toyota.
I’m sorry to hear about your wife’s accident, I’m sure it’s been a diificult time after for the both of you. My guess is the little Toyota wasn’t as “lucky”… Life can change in a tiny second - I always try to be grateful for something during a day no matter how bad things can be sometimes. There’s always a thing or two (or a lot) to be grateful for.
