Re-Wicking / Dry Burn / Ohms Law..etc

Dude that will leak into your mod if you use it.

Yeah I changed it lol. It’s a good think I didn’t use it for more than 10 minutes at a time.

Out of the 12 or so coils I made, I made the perfect one! I even had it sitting behind me on the table, had to switch it out cuz of issues with another one. It doesn’t even look nice, it’s a little bit deformed. But it just vapes and wicks absolutely perfectly. It’s got the perfect crackle, great flavor. I feel a little bit more motivated now that I know I can actually make this, and it could be perfect even if it doesn’t look perfect. The ohms even reads 0.27, practically right on chart. I wish I knew my secret. Lol

I tried many different kinds of wire before i found ones i really liked
big fan of staggered fused claptons, stapled, juggernaught SS or nichrome between .2 amd .3

I’m using up some freebie coils and have a few atties that come out to like .13 and I really really don’t like that at all. This is with double coils. Feels like it takes way too long for it to fire up properly. My favorite range is .22 - .27. Well, at least I know what I don’t like lol.

I’m about the same, I don’t like when the ohms are too low. I play with RDAs with dual coil like that, I crank it up to 80 watts they just get wayyy too hot. I feel like around .3 ohms at around 55 watts gives me the best flavor.

i will say It might not be your coil build, the leg length / height and the wicking seem to have a much bigger effect IMO

if your coil legs are too short your kind of screwed but if they are too long just cut them a tiny tiny bit

do you use a leg cutting tool?

Yeah I actually got a leg cutting tool with my dead rabbit 3 RTA. Very convenient. The coil in this RTA is perfect.

I just don’t know where I went wrong, I spent a couple hours fiddling with my Arbiter 2 to trying to get a hand wrapped coil to work right. The flavors not bad, the wick is fine, it’s it just feels like the coil is not firing quite right. It works, it just could work better. Before I put the cotton in, it glows perfectly, I think it’s just touchy because it’s not perfect.

I’m going to try to wrap some more today. The most trouble I’ve had is at the end I think, bending the coil legs so that they fit in the deck without deformation. I can’t find any info really on bending the legs. I used some needle nose pliers but I figured it has to be something better than that. The particular wire and working with also feels a little soft, so it seems much easier to deform.

I can’t seem to find any info on how the professionals bend the legs perfectly.

Okay, I think I figured out part of my problem. My coil wire that I got is wide, so six wraps when I install it into my arbiter causes deformation on one of either sides. It pushes in on the end loop in overlaps part of the coil. This isn’t really a problem in the dead rabbit 3 because of the larger holes on the build deck. With this particular coil wire I’m going to have to do five wraps in my arbiter, or just let the end wrap over itself. The one I just wrapped isn’t bad, came out to 0.28 omhms, seems to be heating pretty evenly, giving me decent flavor and an acceptable pop and crackle, but it’s just not exactly what I’m wanting.

The one I put in the dead rabbit 3 though, nice loud consistent pops, thick vapor, great flavor.

Update: I tried to do a 5 wrap coil, it’s better but I don’t think I’m getting enough flavor. I’ll have to let my taste buds reset and try that one again.

Go back to your original wire and try 5 wraps at 3.5mm ID and lower the power down.
Make sure the wick it tight so it tugs on the coils when you pull it and seperate the wick ends so they soak up the juice freely.

NOOOO FLAVVVOOOORRRR AAAH!!

I’m beginning to wonder if that coil behind me that I thought I wrapped was actually old one that I bought online. It looks pretty jacked up though. For the way it looked it really tastes good.

But I’ve tried and tried and tried. This last one wasn’t too bad. Came out at .28 ohms. Close enough to .26. I’m going to give it a little bit more of a chance. Maybe it has to break in. But it’s not giving me any flavor.

I just wanted to vape my sad boy punch berry clone in my fruit tank. I can taste it with the other coil, but the ones I make seem no good. The flavor is just totally muted. It just feels like the power is not flowing through it as strong as it should. Looks to be glowing fine though. Maybe when I put the cotton in, it touches it just a tiny bit in the right way and causes a hotspot.

I need to go to the store… But I’m going to try again!!!

One more thing, The coil that tastes good seems to ramp up more slowly but then it gives nice satisfying pops and flavor.

you just started building coils why are you expecting everything to be perfect
try different wires and experiment

you were paying 10$ per coil this is still going to be alot cheaper
in the long run as long as your patient

you can always buy 50 pre-built coils for 10$ from 3fvape or aliexpress etc

I know…

Lmao… So the coil that’s working really good… Is NOT the one that I made. :skull_and_crossbones:

So, it’s a different wire it’s more rounded, The wire I have is more flat. Coil clout is superior ngl. They’re a little pricey but damn their coils are really good.

Maybe it’s not my coil wrapping skills at all, maybe this coil wire is just subpar for flavor and getting the nice crackle I’m looking for.

Now I’m kind of happy I saved all of my old coils from coil clout. Some of them aren’t even totally spent, I think I changed them because I may have detected some hint of burntness or something. But I can clean them.

So I’m not going to completely give up wrapping coils, I do need to figure out the right to coil wire for what I’m trying to accomplish.

No wonder why it was tasting so good compared to the rest. It was an alien coil.

Ok… I just got a new charger for my 21700 batteries. My other ones are all 18650. It appears as though the 18650 batteries are charging at 1% per minute. Wth. They would take hours in my other charger. One set of 21700 are charging really slow, the other set is charging almost as fast as the 18650.

The first set of 21700 has gone up 4%, they had been used by me. The other pair of 21700 that I didn’t use has gone up 12%. Wtf.

I’m just worried if there’s something wrong with my batteries or charger.

Neither! You ran your batterys down to different levels. Below 4% they start below that 1 amp level. When they are close to full same amp change. Your battery charger will say fully charged. Chargers charge will only charge to 97% full. It prevents over charge.

some chargers have ā€œsmart chargingā€ or auto

Did you read the manual?

Yes I did. The manual is only a couple pages it doesn’t say much. I did however set the charging volts for the 18650s down to .6 amps instead of 1, and I set that 21700s that were charging faster to 0.8 amps.

Now that I’m looking at it, the charging time is about an hour and a half, seems pretty normal. I think maybe the other charger must have been underpowered or something. It would take hours.

I just wanted to be sure, feels like I can never be too sure. A bad charger bad battery could be very dangerous. This charger and these batteries I’m not worried about now though.

Dropped my mod the other day and it caused a hot spot on the bottom of the coil. Glowed it and threw it back together, hotspot came back after a day. Just fix it again and put it back together hopefully for the last time.

Oh wtf how the hell. Why did I just add the wrong comment. Ffs. :skull_and_crossbones:

Ffs. My brand new battery already has a cut in its sleeve. I have absolutely no idea how this happened. I didn’t drop it, It’s been inside of my mod. I just took it out and saw it was cut. Wth. I had a bad experience with one set of batteries that I didn’t realize were all nicked up, They touched in the carrying case and got really warm. Luckily for me, I noticed and separated them before they exploded.

I don’t have any wraps for 21700, would it be all right if I just put a piece of PVC tape over this?
