I am currently organizing my flavor inventory and am feeling overwhelmed by the variety of sweeteners available, I dont remember this many years ago. I am looking for a clean, “sugar cube” style sweetness that avoids the artificial, aspartame-like aftertaste I have encountered in the past.
Could you recommend any specific brands or products that offer a more natural profile? Also, is it common practice to mix several different sweeteners to achieve the desired effect, or should I be looking for one specific staple for all my juices? Any advice or personal favorites, or the notes that you get from it will help, I’ve tried searching the forums didn’t really find any big topic on this.
Major concern I’m seeing on a lot of flavors is shipping to the USA. So I guess I need some help from the USA guys on what can be shipped also if it comes down to that.
What kind of sweetness are you after specifically? Like commefcial eliquids or the complete opposite? Somewhere inbetween?
For me i thought the best mainstream sweetener was purilum supersweet, i always thought capellas left mixes with a “syrupy” kind of feel to them which you dont get with purilums. Then theres the neotame based sweeteners, which i only use in pod recipes myself but some people do prefer it of sucralose because its a more subtle but natural sweetness, some people find it can leave an “artificial sweetener” type aftertaste, which i get when using in sub ohm recipes, i think the best way to describe neotame for me would be to say “if sucralose = coca-cola, then neotame = diet coke”, in terms of the way you taste the sweetness anyway. I think sucralose gives a more natural sugar tasting sweet, & the others (neotame/stevia/ethyl maltol etc can leave a more “artificial sweetener” type taste, thats what i get anyway.
I make my own sweetneners though personally with sucralose powder & neotame powder + pg (although i do still need to order more neotame powder), but with making my own i can make it as sweet (or not) as i like, usually i make my sucralose sweetener at 14-15% dilution, i have made some at 20% before but it was way too sweet even when only using at 0.5%.
So from your description (& my perception of sweeteners), i think a sucralose based sweetener might be what you’re looking for? (like whats in commercial liquids?) & trying to avoid things like ethyl maltol, stevia, neotame etc?? If this is the case then i would recommend Purilum Supersweet over capella but capellas is still good. Flavorah sweetness is another good one but it is a bit weaker than purilum & capella, FW sweetener is also a good sweetener but its also quite a bit weaker than the super sweet variants.

Purilum Super Sweet sounds like a great starting point based on your recommendation. Regarding the mix, should I be using different sweeteners for different profiles? For example, would a candy-style flavor require a different sweetener than a nutty or peanut-based recipe, or is it better to stick to one staple for everything? Also, I’ve heard people mention adding flavors like “powdered sugar” to mimic that specific sweetness, but I haven’t been able to track that down.
Sucralose has always given me that nasty aftertaste…Neotame has been a god send but i avoid the Cap Extra Sweet. Flavor Jungles Neotame Solution has been the best for me but they arent putting it in website anymore but they will make a specail order for you…There is always the option of making a solution yourself. Purilium SS is leas offending than Cap SS and FLV Sweetness is probably the best fo the bunch for me personally
That’s how I’ve been doing it. Daddy seems to meld better with fruit & candy. Mama is non-sucralose and is what I’m leaning on for coffee/espresso (or will if the Sweet Mate runs out)
I think I’ll pick up Rick’s regular sweetener; it sounds exactly like what I need for the Sweet Tooth clone I’m trying to nail. That slight cotton candy note should be a perfect addition. I’m also picking up some Pixy Stix to experiment with on the Drooly clone. I’ll post my full order once it arrives in a few days—I know I’m still missing a few components, but this is a solid starting point for what I’m working on.
