Its so hard to discern these flavors when theres multiples of the same flavor. Not sure which diyvs even has.

I see apex has a few french vanillas. I got the one that says new product. Its really good. I do get parts of what you mentioned but ita a whole lot more.

EDIT: The label on amazon is different.

Pure vanilla extract (vanilla bean extractives, water and ethyl alcohol) & natural flavor.

From what i looks like amazon has the natural french vanilla extract not the clear one i got.

From apex description now i know the spices im tasting. It tastes exactly as the description says. I taste all of it. Its like thw most subtle anise in the body and a super buttery slightly nutry hazelnut right on rhe backend.

1 french vanilla extract
2 sugar cookie
3 donut cake
4vanilla extract
5pound cake
6vanilla cream cookie filling
7 pb cup

I gotta get some more.well worth the money. The french vanilla is just holy shit veritile in recipes. It makes custards insanely delish.

Wow are those ranked in best to worst order? As much as people love vccf and it’s #6. It’s amazing that Sterling has flown under the radar for so long.

Highlander Grog (Sterling Cloud) 3.5% I want to say that I had really high hopes for this flavor, being a collector of small batch brewed coffees from around the world. It’s about the only thing I spend more money on than DIY flavorings.
A Scottish Highland Grog is a coffee that can be blended with flavors like caramel, butterscotch, hazelnut, vanilla, rum, toffee, spices, and brown sugar. Some can also have notes of Scotch whisky, and nuts. Typically Highland Grog has a very rich coffee flavor from the use of dark roasted Arabica Beans with some of these notes like caramel, hazelnut, vanilla layered within. It’s one of my favorite brewed coffees.
I mixed this up at 3.5% and steeped for two weeks as I wasn’t getting much of any flavor after a week. And after two weeks I don’t get anything that I listed above. No coffee notes what so ever, also no nutty flavors, no spices not much of anything. Now I do have to say that I do get very light caramel notes and a bit of sweet cream. But that’s pretty much it. Complete and total disappointment leaving this with a rating of 1/10.

@McDuckie in a GOOD way ?

Yeah, it’s hard to argue with something THAT good.

Tiramisu (Sterling Cloud) 3.5% I mixed this up at Session Drummers suggested 3.5% and steeped for a week. Now Session Drummer was right on the mark with this one. It has a great dark coffee flavor that for me is a little too upfront for a tiramisu. Think FA Tiramisu with more cream. The coffee should be a background flavor not straight upfront, but it is a good coffee none the less. Now I did get the vanilla cookie note and its also a good one I just don’t know if it they resemble a true tiramisu cookie. The cookies (ladyfingers) in a tiramisu are basically flavorless until soaked in the coffee. Now the cream layer of this tiramisu was definitely also good though as with almost all tiramisu flavors from all the flavor houses its missing the twang from the mascarpone cheese. Which is a crucial part of a good tiramisu. Of course as with most other Tiramisu’s it can be added with WF or SSA Mascarpone, or a combo of Brie cheese and cream cheese. Also for me in a tiramisu the cream should be whipped and custardy and this cream is more like a sweet cream.
In retrospect if I was to compare this to say FA Tiramisu, I’d have to say that is slightly better and creamier, but still too heavy on the espresso and cookie notes. Slightly closer to INW Tiramisu though all are missing the mascarpone and some eggy custard notes. So I’ll have to leave it at 7/10.

Tiramisu SSA rules (which isn’t difficult in this competition; FA and INW are unworkable for me)

Key Lime (Sterling Cloud) 3.5% I gotta say Session Drummer hit this right on the head. Though I think that this is a perfect Key Lime flavor. This is almost an exact replica of Nellie and Joes Key West Lime Juice. It’s really natural, not too sweet and with very light lime zest notes. This is by far the best Key Lime flavor I’ve ever tried. 10/10

Wow, I wish I’d thought of that comparison. Very good call.
