The one on the left was not as bad as it looks surprisingly. The other was actually worse, burnt out the middle of the cotton through the coil… lol.
Any wonder the taste was tapering off!

I normally check when the flavour is dropping /starting to taste bad.
Not normally as gunky as yours… I use small coils tho.
Hubby’s look like yours when I change his 
and I usually have to ask (or check when I’m changing mine). He doesn’t seem to notice a flavour change - I think his taste buds are shot!

Yeah, I know my taste buds are stuffed. 30+ years of heavy smoking does that.
How small are your coils? These are 3.0mm ID MTL coils (around 7 - wraps). Did 2.5mm originally but find 3.0mm work better for me.

I clean and rewick when I see the slightest bit of crud on the coil. This photo is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me… lol

I use single wire SS 3mm 26g 5wraps @ 0.6ohms (premade).
I haven’t graduated yet, they do the job
