That instantly conjured up fond memories from my youth.
And now the Joker is pregnant …
A million young poets screaming out their words
To a world full of people just living to be heard
Future generations, riding on the highways that we built
I hope they have a better understanding
Going to work on Monday
Got yourself a family
All utility bills have been paid
You can’t tell your best buddy that you love him
Where does our time go?
Got a brand new house in escrow
Sleeping with your back to your loved one
This is all that we’ve learned about happiness
Forgot to say hello to my neighbours
Sometimes I question my own behaviour
Talking about the girls that we’ve seen on the sly
Just to tell our souls we’re still the young lions
Getting too drunk on Saturdays
Playing football with the kids on Sundays
Soaring with the eagles all week long
And this is all that we’ve learned about living
A million young poets screaming out their words
Maybe someday those words will be heard
By future generations riding on the highways that we built
Maybe they’ll have a better understanding
Oh yes, I remember hearing about the ‘happy’ news.
Sad news. Saw Beck & John McLaughlin in the 70’s. McLaughlin came back out & joined Beck for the encore. What a treat.
I didn’t know he died yesterday. Was a one of a kind. Dang…I’m getting old.
@d_fabes I remember playing John McLaughlin on the radio in 1972 through 1974. About the same time would play cuts from “Buckingham-Nicks”. Some very good memories.
I saw a story about Wet Leg being nominated for Brits on the Beeb and wondered who the hell are they.
Oddly they just reminded me of finer works.
What’s more beautiful than a stadium lit up with cell phones while singing about landlines? The song, light show and UFO.
Why do we tend to see songs where the lyrics are only questions and not the answers?
Thanks for Wet Leg. They look like a lot of fun. Gay Bar is awesome too and Shatner, well that goes without saying.
Worth a listen (maybe two if you’re a Rundgren fan) Every sound on this album came from his voice. That may not mean much these days, but this was made in '85, when sequencers were still in diapers and it had to be constructed pretty much note by note
Loved ELO and Jeff Lynne. Always thought it would be great to see him with some other talented musicians…like Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. Together they could have done some darned good music and been very popular !! They could have been traveling around together. Instead of visiting Mayberry they could hit Wilbury.
Good observation. One of my fav songs by Ghost is almost all questions. But at least he gives an answer.
My question is why do sad songs make me so happy???
“The endless river…”
Yep. And they all seemed like they were having a blast with each other. Great talent with mutual respect and very different personalities with each of the appreciating those differences.
