TFV4 Rebuild Deck - Ti Issues - Hair being pulled out by the roots!

So, as you may or may not have read in this post, I’ve already had a few issues with my rebuild using Titanium wire. Real quickly though before I get into that…

The rebuild deck is a solid hunk of stainless craftsmanship. Well all except for the deck screws. They’re tiny…very tiny. And the heads are very small which leaves me puzzled how the factory managed to get as much torque on them as they did. I damn near stripped the heads taking the pre-installed coil out. Ended up using needlenose pliars and using them to grip the screw head on it’s sides to get loosened.

Ok, the issue. I’ve rebuilt this deck 3 times today. The first time I got a burnout on my coil leg. The second build…well I don’t know what happened. It was great then suddenly the resistence jumped like .25 and I have no idea why. I did confirm this on another device.

I don’t know where I’m going wrong but I feel like it’s me and not the xCube or deck. Anyone have ideas?

If I’m hearing you correctly it was working and then the resistance jumped .25 ohms and didn’t want to work correctly then. Often once a build is done you may have to go back and tighten the screws again after the coils have been heated up. Most likely this is your problem. If this doesn’t do it for you then talk with @Pro_Vapes. He’s getting pretty familiar with the XCube…

I wrap the leg on the short end of the deck under the screw head. If it make contact with deck you will get a bad reading or a short.

I’ll bet you anything that’s the problem! I’m blind as a bat and I haven’t been wrapping that one leg around the screw because it’s such a crap screw. I’ll bet anything I’be had the leg too close to the longer end and they touched. My guess is the center pin holds that long piece in place and it moves ever so slightly when screwing the thing down at reassembly. Dammit man you’re smart! Thank you! Oh, and I rebuilt again but left more space between the 90 deg angle of the leg and the hole. Hopefully that cures it but for now I’m back to nice, warm and tasty vapor.

So I saw photos of Ti builds that had non–spaced coils. I thought with Ti that they should be spaced but the photo I saw led me astray. Building closed Ti coils causes hot spots and the taste of burnt titanium will stay in your mouth for friggin hours. Damn I’ve been having a time.

Thanks Rose. I happen to have something similar ordered and wating for it to arrive. I discovered where I was going wrong. Somewhere along the way I got confused about how to build these coils with Ti wire. And I discovered it the hard way having fried my tongue a few times because when titanium gets glowing hot (will happen with closed coils) it is beyond hot. It took me a few times failing till I went back over the posts here and realized I got some bad info somewhere. Doing good now. And I will apologize to everyone because for days now I’ve been a little whiney ass with all my issues. It’s as though I just learned to build and frankly with the new tank and wire, I suppose I have. Once it’s set up though…the joy is too much to put into words.

Oh hell yeah. It didn’t take many reads about the combo of the xCube and TFV4 to realize it was a great setup. I just have had this issue my whole life, even as a kid. I get a new toy and rip it open, throw the instructions to the side and start playing. This time I did try to research Ti and Ni wire ahead of time but apparently I read too many things. Thanks to everyone who offered help. This was the first day I’ve been using Ti wire the entire day with zero defects. It’s great! I got some SS on the way too and can’t wait to try that as well.
