Amazon Ring "Search Party". Good or Bad?

Apparently Amazon’s Ring “Search Party” Superbowl ad has caused a lot of uproar, with a metric ton of blowback.

What do you think ??

So far, I’m seeing a lot of unhappiness about it, and threats to cancel using Ring.

Maybe this parody will help you decide …

This would be great for little kids who lose their pets.
It would also be great for: terrorists, stalkers, tyrannical government entities, creeps… I’m surprised they used the “lost pet” scenario when we know damn well this technology has nothing to do with lost pets. Maybe folks in Europe or Asia may accept it because they’re used to government interference, but Americans are rightfully rejecting it because we KNOW where this slippery slope leads.

IMHO @Mixmaster_Mike, you gotta try and sell it some way.
What better way than puppies !!!

Look, anyone in the know, already knows that this is, has, and WILL be/continue to be going on. What I thought was interesting, is now, “they” are telling people they’re doing it, errrrr, doing it for the PUPPIES I mean.

I know what I think, and the people in my circles think, but I was curious what YOU guys thought.

Sadly, as @fidalgo_vapes eluded to, it’s not just Amazon, or Ring, and it’s BEEN going on. I don’t want to go into all the details, but a while ago, had a client who was experiencing some “issues” after purchasing a large amount of “security cameras” for his site. The cameras were cheap, and from a particular country. We had advised him AGAINST using these cheaper, non-sanctioned devices, but he “saved money”.

Well, hehe, there were some “issues”. We ended up running some very deep packet level inspections, and monitored all inbound/outbound traffic, and let’s just say, there were some SERIOUS issues.

These are not the tools we were using, BUT, if you are curious, and want to just play around, and see what’s what, knowledge is power people.

You know what they say, you don’t know, what you don’t know, … until you do.

Why does it surprise you? Long before AI ever existed these door bell camera’s were marketed as a neighborhood watch by grouping a neighborhood for a fee. You were able to watch a person, car, children walking through the neighborhood. Puppies? Just another marketing tool.

@rcleven I was being facetious. :slight_smile:

Agreed, BUT, … big things, have little beginnings.

It’s too late for some unfortunate regions of the world.
The UK operates one of the world’s most extensive surveillance states, featuring an estimated 6 million CCTV cameras, widespread police use of live facial recognition (LFR), and broad intelligence agency powers for bulk data interception.
Age of surveillance: Are we already living in a Big Brother dystopia? Age of surveillance: Are we already living in a Big Brother dystopia?

Every inch of the UK is monitored by the government. Not only do they use the video for catching criminals, they also use it for live monitoring for “potential crime” and they even go through recorded video to look for “crimes committed.”
It’s like they read the novel “1984” and used it as their playbook.
Just you wait and see how A.I. will be used to monitor these CCTV cameras. Nothing will be private anymore.

Here’s what’s coming next
