Hey ELR,
I saw a recent recipe from Wayne that I’d like to try, but I am missing Capella - Lemon Drop. Are there any close substitutions for it? I have so many “good” lemons that I don’t really think buying another is necessary.
The recipe calls for 1.5% Cap LD.
I have the following lemon flavors:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And if none of my flavors would be a good substitution, I’ll buy lemon drop. But it would be nice to get an idea of the recipe’s flavor before I do.

Hey @SessionDrummer , am I using FE at the same 1.5% as in the recipe for the Capella LD?
Funny you and @Lynda_Marie both said FE. Before your comments, I already mixed up a batch with FE at 1.0%, but it was lacking in the lemon department. It may very well be that this extra 0.5% will fix that.

@IggyZ , I don’t know all of the flavors in your mix, and I did test the CAP @4 %, and the FE @ 3%. At 1.0%, it could be getting buried in the mix.
Lemon Drop (CAP) 4% (2-1-23) – Most lemons I’ve tested fall into 3 categories. Natural, Lemon Candy, and Lemonades. This one as expected landed into the “candy” category, but unlike FE’s it was NOT a Lemonhead candy. It had some slight natural undertones, but the majority were almost a mixture of a lemon candy with some lemonade thrown in. I think this helped pull it from a more Lemonhead into a drop (candy). The natural / artificial ratio would be roughly 20% natural, 80% artificial, and the natural/candy/lemonade ratio would be close to 10% natural, 60% candy, 30% lemonade JUST to give you a better idea of what was I getting from it. With soo many lemony notes floating around, it actually took me QUITE a while to figure up those ratios for you guys, hehe. It was full but still just a smidge relaxed at 4%, and a few ticks above mid-level sweet. You could POSSIBLY go up a percent more without hitting the ceiling as a single flavor. There were some tart/sour notes, and although not reaching full on natural lemon levels they were enough to give it a crisp, clean finish. Because it had all three elements (natural, candy, lemonade) it could actually be used beyond the obvious “candy” uses, possibly even on LMP’s and more. One meat aspect that I seemed to keep getting on the finish also, was an almost powdered confectioners sugar that some candies have on the outside. An interesting mix or medley, and it’s straddling across the 3 big types, would help increase it’s uses. Nothing off-putting, and it was an accurate Lemon Drop, without turning into a Lemonhead. Not the tartest lemon out there, but I don’t think it needed to be. Even keeled, sweet, tart, with a dash of sour, slightly relaxed, and a good medley of lemon types is what you get with this one. It felt Solid @ 9.0/10 .
Lemon (Flavor Express) 3% (12-24-20) – Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ve heard of FE Lemon. Lemons can be a fickle bunch, some favor natural, others candied, and many just fade out making them surprisingly harder to get right than you would think. Flavor Express did a GREAT job with this one. To say they nailed “Lemon Heads” is an understatement, as this is EXACTLY a Lemon Heads flavor. It was a nicely candied lemon flavor that felt and tasted somewhat more complex than a simple candy lemon. Nicely sweet and tart, but never too much of either. No lemon pledge was present, and surprisingly this COULD be vaped solo. Plenty of high end sparkle, with mid and a few lower notes kept it interesting throughout the tank. I’m guessing this one would favor cereals, and bakeries slightly more than pure fruit mixes, and it’s fading or lack thereof will have to be determined later. For a candied, lemon head flavor this is about as good as it gets. If you are a purist natural lemon-er you might not rate it as high, but as this stands, it’s solidly a 9.9/10 .
