Any tricks to using the ultrasonic bath

Is there any tricks to usibg the ultrasonic bath. Time in temp. So on and so on. Looking at a megnetic stirrer

I don’t know of any tricks. The USC that I have isn’t heated so I add hot tap water when I use it. The water will stay hot for at least 3 hrs as long as I run my cycles back to back. I think the sonic vibration helps to retain the heat. I once checked my water temp at the beginning and again when I was done (over 2 hrs later), and the temp only went down 8 degrees.

Mine is heated. I run it at around 12 degrees for 2 hours.

Mine is not heated, but after a 30 minute cycle the water is quite warm. If I want to run another 30 minute cycle right away I replace it with cool tap water or throw a couple ice cubes in so it doesn’t get too hot.

But then, some people steep in crock pots, so maybe a little heat isn’t a big deal. You don’t wanna overcook it though, because excessive heat is said to degrade nicotine. Supposedly ages it prematurely, makes it weaker and/or a tiny bit skunky.

That’s not enough heat to harm your nic. I’ve been using a heated USC every since I started diy with excellent results every time. I’m a firm believer that a 2hr hot USC will take a week or more off your steep time.

Well my reply should say 122 degrees. Not 12 lol. I wonder if thats to hot

After two or three cycles it gets about too hot to touch if I don’t change the water or let it sit a bit between cycles. It may not hurt it to get this hot, but I don’t mind changing the water. I usually do at least 4 30 minute cycles unless I’m feeling super impatient. Sometimes a lot more if I just leave it in there and hit it with a cycle whenever I notice it sitting quiet. I’ve got a chocolate pudding that’s been in there since Wednesday probably 6 or so hours of which has been running, it’s probably about awesome right now. I’m not very good at letting things steep more than a week.

One thing tho, high VG mixes seem to shake a LOT better when they’re a bit warm than when they’re at room temp.

I doubt it. I mean every bit of heat helps a bit of nicotine oxidize, but in the end we’re running it thru a 400-500F coil and still getting our nic fix, so how bad could it be in an airtight container at 122?

The boiling point for nicotine is 476.6 F so I doubt that any USC is getting that hot and still performing correctly. 554F for vegetable glycerin and 370.8 F for PG.
