As far as Ellen D, like I said, I don’t watch the show but I know she’s an animal lover and married to an Aussie. And you’re probably right about her not taking kindly to funds being withheld. One good thing about being a celebrity is the power to raise money from large donors. Whether they do it for taxes, out of the goodness of their hearts or just to look good, who cares as long as they cough it up. On the other hand, I saw that some Go Fund Me groups have raised far more than their goals. I just hope that Go Fund Me doesn’t look at this as a cash cow. Am I being too negative? I just want Australia to get all the help they can. This is a nightmare that we can’t stop thinking about. And we shouldn’t. I have friends from Australia who just settled here but they own property in the Melbourne area and have family there.

I agree - it will all help, there is so much that will need replacing - housing, fencing, stock, equipment - all the infrastructure, power, water, etc and I’m sure that many people will not have insurance/be under insured - who knows what the insurance company’s will cover?
Let alone the emotional cost of these fire on the people involved.
No you’re not - I actually found a GoFundMe for a local couple who lost everything and I “stalked” the person who started it to be sure they were genuine also - then read Terms & Conditions for GoFundMe - they are operating as a business… and not classed as a registered charity here is Aus.
Me too - I keep looking out the windows and imagining everything ablaze - but that’s what makes me focus on being prepared.
I hope they are coping ok with everything - the air quality alone is a challenge in a lot of places at the moment.

As you can see, they also have floods now due to a Tropical Cyclone that passed through - the upshot of this is that pushed the rain down to the southern areas of the country…

The closest fire is about 60km from my house (we are safe) but to give an indication of how it was 3 days ago
The rains last night and south westerly wind has helped us a lot (it will for sure be making it much worse for others) but this is today.

Northern Territory Bushfire Situation as at Jan 11 15.54
Well it appears there is some good news in the NT - only one fire near the SA border (bottom) all others are fire alarms/car accidents (well that’s not good but…) and a few structure fires in Alice Springs - all are closed incidents.

It is devastating …
On Thursday night I checked my Alert App for fires before I went to bed and the whole island was under alert - I didn’t sleep well …
Most of the island is still under alert…
