Burnt/Caramelized taste in home juices

Hey!
I’ve made 3 different ejuices. I don’t think that brands are relevant, because I’m from Poland and there’s a high chance they’re not available for you. One of them is very popular here and is considered as one of the best (A&L Ragnarok Primal Sweet).
I’ve got OXVA Oneo, 40W pod with 0.4 ohm cartridge (this one is the best for my taste, I’ve tried all three resistances).
I’ve made all three ejuices in similar way. 50/50 VG/PG, around 15-16 mg/ml nicotine (yes, I like this on 0.4). Added a little bit of citric acid solution and suchralose solution (both around 1-1.5% volume).
The problem is that all of them turn dark brown after a few smokes (?) and the flavour changes. At the beginning the flavour is quite nice, but after turning dark, it’s terrible. First of all, it’s not about the cartridge. I’ve tried this on a new 0.4 one. Second, it’s not because of the suchralose solution, because it happened to me before adding citric and suchralose.
Have you got any idea why this happens? Without acid and suchralose it’s even worse, cause I like sweet juices, like commercial ones from shops and for me, without adding those additions, they taste really bad and flat.

someone correct me if im wrong, but im almost sure commercial oneshots already have the exact same ammount of sweetener as the pre-made liquid does? so adding an extra 1-1.5% would basically be doubling up on what sweetener would be in the pre made version of the same flavour. have you tried making a smaller batch without adding more sweetener with a fresh coil? i know you said you tried without & with a new coil but did you try without additional sweetener IN a new coil? or had you already tried the previous added sweetener beforehand? & i would just ditch the citric altogether aswell tbh, capella super sweet already contains citric & that is most likely the sweetener thats already in the one-shot? i find citric just causes more issues than good & it definitely makes some flavours fade a little faster.
You may be trying to over complicate things a little? Try mixing it as intended, the commercial ammount of sweetener should already be in there & theres no real reason to be adding citric acid to oneshots anyway imo. It could also be something to do with the nicotine?
Really theres only 4 things it could be - 1,sweetener. 2,nicotine. 3,bad coil & 4,contamination/expiry of your base &/or any additives, asuming everything else is the same with the vape you’re using? I cant think of any other reason for it to be turning brown/caramelizing, i would put money on it being the sweetener or a combination of sweetener & citric

Could be as simple as too much wattage. Personally I would advise you to get a mod/tank kit that gives you more control concerning wattage and airflow.

Hi @Lich555 and welcome to the forum.
I’ll start by saying that I don’t know the POD we’re talking about but by searching on the official website, where the coil features are not clearly specified, I noticed from a video that those 0.4ohm ones go between 28W and 35W and as you would expect for those values they are indicated for a DL vape. The liquid as you made it is absolutely too fluid and easily burns taking on a bad flavor; try preparing it 40/60 and/or 30/70 PG/VG (just a few ml to use as a tester) and see if the situation improves, I assume that your device delivers in bypass and a less fluid liquid could make the difference.

Tbh I think that’s the answer. 1 hour ago I’ve tried this juice on OXVA Xlim Pro 2, 0.6 oh, 25 W. MUCH MUCH better. Two different worlds.

Without sweetener it was even worse. Those 3 aromas without additional suchralose tasted like they have literally zero sugar.

Glad you worked it out!

Welcome to the community and glad you found your solution. When I started using VV/VW I played around a bit to find my sweet spot to get the most flavor without that “burnt” taste or color.

I don’t think you can arbitrarily choose the VW value with that type of device. That type of POD usually uses a sort of bypass, albeit more sophisticated depending on the chipset, more sophisticated adjusted on the aromatic restitution setting that would lead to more or less meeting the tastes of most users on a large scale. Of course the good old VW, which is the kamikaze approach that I personally prefer, required study and continuous tinkering, depending on the liquid loaded, which nowadays seems like blasphemy. Now a click is enough without any intervention of the brain… brain damage!!!

I tried a pod device once…didn’t make it a full day. I want to be able to tweak my vape to my personal satisfaction. Weirdly I don’t care for tc, I get bored with the same taste/hit over and over and over again and again and again. That being said I believe all devices are valuable to any who uses them; after all variety is truly the spice of life.

Of course! In my previous post I did not want to denigrate any user because of the device in use; I also use them when I’m out for work or I need a comfortable device without the need for many frills.
I was simply reflecting on the fact that, as comfortable as PODs may be, there is the risk of raising a new generation of vapers who are not very informed about the full and true potential of the device they could have in their hands simply by giving up some immediacy.
Rereading my post I realize that my intention was not very clear and I apologize if I came across as offensive towards anyone. :pensive:

My comment was in no way directed toward your post, actually agreed with you. The newer device types just aren’t for me personally. In all honestly I didn’t try to make them work for me at all. I’m just stuck in my ways and don’t have much interest in changing that. Probably more likely I’m honestly just too lazy. Lol

Yes @Letitia I know, there is no misunderstanding, I simply wanted to clarify my reasoning.
In any case you are not lazy at all! :+1:t2:
