California 2025 Fires

Unless you are living under a rock, you know about the 2025 California fires that are still raging. The losses will be staggering, actually they already are, but they will only grow as time goes on.

@paingawd went through this a few years back, and I HOPE he, and his family are doing ok.

Any of our members in Cali, can check in ?

This is so devastating. I just can’t imagine…

I’m in SoCal, but in the desert about 150 miles away. It’s been on every channel and I’ve seen some bad fires in the past 30 years, but nothing like what this beast is. The winds where I live were almost as strong as when Hurricane Hillary tire us apart. I can’t image the gusts of 100mph winds combined with fire. It’s just devastating. I heard that many insurance companies cancelled fire insurance on that area late last year. All those people are screwed unless they can fight the insurance companies. Sad

I can’t even watch most of the coverage coming out of SoCal. PTS sucks and my heart goes out to everyone down there. My wife and I were talking about the fires last night and even talking about it gives me the jangly ganglia. Fucking hell…

I’ll bet it does @paingawd. As SOON as I first heard about the fires (I have friends out there), the FIRST thing I said was, “Fuck, paingawd better be ok”.

So much loss and devastation. The fire around Pasadena and Altadena is only a few miles from my old house in La Crescenta. Wishing the best for whoever is in those areas or have friends and family affected.

This terrible event in dominating our news in Australia too. From our reports it’s truly an unimaginable situation. How do the families affected recover from this?
Horrifying doesn’t begin to describe it.

I am about 35 miles from the eaton fire and yesterday the smell was almost unbearable outside. The winds were insane, the worse we have ever experienced, it downed 2 trees on our property and damaged our roof. It was scary, didn’t get much sleep, thank god we only sustained minor damage compared to so many others. Power was out for a little more than 3 days for us, not so lucky for some neighbors just a mile away.

It definitely is a wake up call that we need to prepare better. Ordered a solar battery generator from 4patriot to power out refrigerator and other devices. Pretty much lost all our food, and a little sanity.

We count ourselves as lucky though, our hearts are definitely with those who went through the worst.

This is our roof, not too bad.

Oh man. So happy you and yours are ok. It’s some scary stuff for sure. You take care of yourself. The air may be a bit nasty for a bit so be careful.

Thank you brother!

Yeah, on Friday I had to wear a mask whenever I went outside, it was bad. Winds picked up again and power was shutoff at around 4:30 this morning but back up about an hour later. We are definitely not out of this craziness, forecast calling for more high winds this week.

Went out and bought whatever adapters I could get for my various power tool batteries. Milwaukee and Rigid both make inverters so we can power up items under 175 watts. Gas generators are pretty much sold out but they are so loud I would pass anyway. We could hear gas generators in all 4 directions during the outage. We do have a generator and solar panels on our RV so that is an option too. Problem is driving that monstrosity during high winds which I am not crazy enough to do. We did see 3 big rigs flipped over on the freeway just 3 days ago.

We got bags ready with important stuff in case we have to evacuate. I am praying that won’t be the case, but gotta keep the family safe.

Thank you all for the concern
