Cattitudes!🐈

This poor thing is having a rough go at life. Can’t breathe through its mouth and I could only get this close because I’m looking out the kitchen door window

Oh dear! What’s happened to this poor guy? Is it possible to call an organization that helps strays? I use to deal with some orgs around here who did that. He was able to eat and drink water?

I actually haven’t seen this one since I took this picture. I’m currently looking after 4 ferals, so the Tom in this crew probably ran him(?) off

I’m a sucker for the underdog, in this case a cat. My heart hurts just looking at him. I’ll be checking back to see if there’s any updates. Thx for looking after the ferals @robrrt1

i have a new friend. this is Sombra. a neutered male Manx that showed up in the bushes about 2 months ago. it has taken me this long to gain a little trust and establish a feeding schedule.about a week ago we made some serious moves towards friendship and trust. this evening he was inside the house for a short sniff and explore. he is the second biggest cat i have ever had and has a golden belly.

That cat looks well taken care of, I think he may belong to someone. He’s a bit chonky, looks well fed.

cats don’t really belong to anyone, they own YOU

he has been nuetered so at some time he has received some vet care. this is the 3rd Manx that has shown up at my property in the past 30 yrs.both of which made excellent pets. he has the short tufted tail called a Stumpy Riser which qualifies him for shows so it would surprise me if he didn’t come from a cattery. kittens like these go for $1500 to $3500 depending on color and pattern.
but make no mistake, he is a born hunter and will likely never go hungry even if he didn’t have access to every resource i can provide. they are also tough as nails and fiercely protective of territory and the human they bond to. i call him the security cat. we are both pretty happy about our relationship and my task now is to integrate him into the household on his terms.
it has taken 2 months of twice daily feeding and now daily brushing to get him where we are (the occasional pic and brief visits inside). everyday we make a little progress and thats all i ask for.

this made me LOL literally. the first one i ever saw was a solid black Rumpy (no tail). he was hanging out in the woods behind my house. my son saw him and “that cat doesn’t have a tail, can we keep him?” that was 30 yrs ago.once i got him comfortable with us i took him to the vet, got him nuetered, shots and a spa day with a full grooming. then i looked up tailess cats and found out solid colored Rumpys were the most desirable for breeding at catteries and solid black was rare. at the time breeders were charging $200-$400 stud fees. i felt like the guy that gave away the winning powerball ticket.
turns out a lot of people nueter the males because when they spray (and they will) you will find it about as pungent as what i can only imagine a full grown Lion/Tiger would do. Sombra has already marked the porch where his food bowls are and i am hoping thats enough. they have all the cuteness of domesticated cats and quite a few wild animal traits. after 50 yrs. keeping cats i am ecstatic that perhaps i will have a lasting relationship with another.
here is a stock picture while i wait for an opourtunity to get a pic of his (never thought i’d be hoping to pic from that angle).

kind of… he wags it like a dog when hes happy. otherwise it’s kind of like a privacy fence but leans to the right.

i thought i might take a minute to give an update on the luring of a semi-feral cat.
i have been propping the storm door open and letting him come inside and look around while i sit in a chair and talk to him. every time someone moves or there is a sound he runs right back out. last night he jumped up in the chair with me me and we had a pet fest for 5 minutes and walked back out on the porch. as a reward i gave him some Fancy food and a couple of treats on his plate. after he finished he was right back at the door and scartched at it like he wanted in. i held the door open and he came right in allowing me to close the door behind him. he jumped up in the chair and i got the full Purr,Chuff and cold nose head boops. this cat is strong! he pushed my arm up out of his way and laid on his side and pushed agaist my side with his back legs which really hurt. i got to rub the golden belly while he blissed out.
he does do one thing i have never seen. when he is ready to be petted he lays his ears back and bugs out his eyes (which to be honest is somewhat frightening) i don’t know this move from a cat but it does make me very cautious.
i don’t think he has ever had any positive interactions with humans but he is learning to trust me. the best kind of relationship IMO. many thanks to those who have read and commented.

That is a GREAT story @2naphish. For every one we save, it’s one less we have to save. Outstanding Sir.

We’ve had, a wide variety of monsters over the years, but I’ve never seen one do that. As you know, laying the ears back is typically a sign of fear.

That MAY have a lot to do with it.
