this morning i let Sombra out to do his business as usual… after about 20 minutes i was about to check and see if he wanted back in when all hell broke loose on my back deck. i jumped up and turned to check and my son said “there was another cat there”. evidently we have have another visitor (grey cat) to our end of the neighborhood but i am guessing he won’t come back anytime soon . my son had a good view of the altercation and the grey cat walked up on the back porch to look in the security door and got blindsided by the 20 lbs of muscle and sinew i lovingly call my “Sugar Cat”. Sombra didn’t seem bothered by the whole thing and laid there wagging his stub at me, so i gave him a few treats and praised security skills…we also don’t have squirrels and armadillos terrorizing our property anymore.
the moral of the story is “get a Bobcat (or something close) and you only have to deal with it and nothing else”.
Where do you live? Are armadillos a nuisance? I ask because some people here feel that groundhogs are a nuisance but I find them entertaining. Then again, I don’t have a vegetable garden to be destroyed.
sounds promising, so i should order a caracal?
i had to look that one up. looks friendly enough, if i didn’t already have a wild beast i’d get one right away. ![]()
they dig for worms and insects and leave the perfect hole to break an ankle in and then there is the whole carrying Leprosy problem. i’m giving them a hard pass on the things i don’t mind sharing space with list.
you might regret that, caracal are incredibly terrirtorial and aggressive towards their owners
you could grow some super hot peppers, you can blend them in water and spray your garden to keep mammals away, they hate the smell and they will regret it if they try to eat anything
well, if i can’t get snuggles and purrs at bedtime…i’ll stick to my particular brand of monster.
