Coil spacing question

I just received the RBA for the Baby Beast tank in. It came with a .3 ohm set of claptons installed. The coils are spaced widely and I was wondering why they would be like that instead of either touching or very close to touching like I would normally wrap my coils?

The Smok TF-RTA, both the G2 and G4 deck come with spaced coils. But not spaced that much.

Yours seem a little wonky.

Ohh I don’t think it’s necessarily “wonky”, just I wasn’t sure there is/was a good reason to space the coil wraps like that in lew of compressing them as I normally do. Usually I just use single strand ss 316L when I make coils and was wondering if I should also space them out… “shrugs” Guess I’ll wick this up and let the step daughter tell me if she like it or not. I’m not sure what gauges the wires are in the claptons. I believe they are nickle though.

The coils seem to be a mix of Kanthal and NiChrome and not Nickel.

The reason I was saying wonky is they look wayyyy spaced apart. Mine normally have just a smidge of spacing.

Did you tear fire them? How did they look?

She is currently using the tank, I won’t get to try them out in it until this evening. I was going to run it on the 521 tab then like an idiot realized that this is not a complete deck, but (we need a new term here) a RBC (Rebuildable Coil). I grabbed a couple youtube videos to see how they are wicking them so as not to leak…

I always space mine whenever possible, release the steam man :smiling_imp:

Thx @Fenrir1 I am a bit at a loss of the make up listed, it says Fe-Cr (which is Iron and Chromium) then lists nickel-chromium I wasn’t sure if it was still talking the coils or the coil deck makeup

Too pretty to use…

No worries man.
They did list what material they have used in the coils.
I cant imagine them using anything else but stainless in that deck.

I think they just spaced the coils out to fit in the width of the deck, that’s all. Don’t think there is no other reason for it really.

I find i get more flavour, my theory being that the majority of your juice is in your cotton, so the more thats exposed the more flavour youll get, if its all closed up the vapour will release from the ends and whats on the coil…of course that might be complete bollocks and all in my head but it appears to make a difference to me

Oh i have no issues with spaced coils, i space my claptons for the most part.
I was only referring to the coils in the Baby RBA and why they might have spaced them as much.

Ahh…gotcha…when i got my RBA nothing was installed, i would imagine its for the same reason, its not the most flavoursome of tanks

I give you 5 Stars for that coil build @Pugs1970, I don’t comment much but somethings are worth it.

My simple answer to the spaced/contact coil question is. Spaced coils rarely have hot spots if ever. It is just easier for me to do spaced coils and eliminate the extra step of compressing the coil.

The coils you pictured do look wide but to be honest I have never seen a difference in how wide they are spaced having any effect on the vape.

I have not done a contact coil since I learned about how easy spaced coils are.

I cant take credit for the coil man its not one of mine đź–’

You can test your theory, make a spaced and contact coil. Install in 2 identical tanks. Have a friend mix them up or devise way e.g. Lazy Susan contraption to mix them. Blindfold. Then vape. Note your observations. Do it like 10 -15 times do that you maybe get some consistency. Not just random data. You should if your theory is correct be able to pick the difference. And also decide which way is truly your favourite.

I’m a bit weird but I enjoy that kind of stuff. Something for a rainy day perhaps.

Not a rainy day, do it while drinking shots. It would make things more interesting.
