Coronavirus

It’s very hard to know the number of new cases cause there are no new test done, there’s only a limited amount of tests available. (unlike TP)

My school is closing for the coming two weeks (as are all of them), I was happy about that and send this to the school
Then I got word they ordered all coffeeshops to close their doors… :scream: :scream: and :scream: again.

So China is doing no testing at all right now? How long has this been happening? And this is another frustrating aspect of this ordeal. How many people are being tested in the world? For all we know there could be 10 million active cases, most of them making a full recovery without ever seeking attention or getting tested. This would, of course, lower the mortality rate in orders of magnitude which we suspect is true already.

I understand they can only base the results on actual cases rather than speculation, but there must be some quantitative way to predict the unreported cases and get them into the statistical analysis, because it definitely makes this look very much worse that it likely is.

Nobody is, they are all saving the few they have for the severe cases.
They don’t have enough to do any widespread testing anywhere.

Then there is certainly a very high likelihood that millions of people are probably infected or carrying it right now. Wow, that’s mind boggling.

Here in Barcelona, Spain, the person with symptoms is told to stay home. They do not test, only severe cases. And statistics, according to politicians, are made with those data. That they make them up, I think …

You’re asking the right questions. This crisis will likely mostly be remembered for the economic consequences and less about the mortality rate of covid-19 IMO.

And that at a time when governments across the world should be spending money on stuff to tackle the other crisis, climate change. The future’s looking very bleak right now and after the banking crisis of 2008, I wonder how many people are going to lose their life savings this time (if only they could lose their debts as easily).

All horeca has to shut down

Well, at the moment it is not like that here. The government says that people do not go to work, and they appeal to the good will of the people, without proposing any kind of help to anyone, only postponing the payment of taxes to companies. We will see later …

Not sure Italian’s would agree with that but yes you are probably right since $ seem to be put above people pretty much everywhere nowadays.

The same happens in most other countries too but this reasoning is terribly flawed. People that go to work still need to get paid, people still need to pay rent, pay for medication, pay for food, for everything… something has got to give and it won’t take long to find out what.

Yes, I agree with you, but it is what they do … If they have to choose between people and money, they choose money. Damn capitalism … Let’s see if we realize it once …

Unfortunately I think it will be like this. It is better that we prepare ourselves, China has sacrificed its economy, Europe sacrifices its inhabitants, and the USA, we will see. You will say …

The problem here is that the healthcare system is collapsed. Seriously affected people need ICU (intensive care, respirators, monitoring, etc.) for many days, and there is no more space. The doctors have to let some die … It must be said that the rest, heart attacks, etc., continue to happen.
