I have spent the last few weeks deep inside the perfumery rabbit-hole, and the weather is fine in there. In fact, it smells terrific! haha!
This all started when my bottle of Frankincense essential oil was almost gone, and I had this clever idea; “How 'bout I ask my AI program (CoPilot built-in on Windows 11 desktop, no AI debates, plz 
where to find the best Frankincense essential oil in the world?” I’ve been using eo’s for a long time, just for the smells, not into metaphysics or crystal power, and not into wearing cologne.
What came next was finding some of the world’s best aroma materials suppliers humans have to offer. And, of course, I had to look around a bit, right?
The similarities to our craft are stunning. Sourcing aromas/concentrates, finding the profiles we want to vape, mixing by weight, not drops, figuring out what develops during the steep, how one thing plays with/conflicts with/bends the other into, etc. Forums where new mixers ask experienced mixers to have a look at their recipes/formulas, get advice like “Well, you have 5 concentrates that contain high levels of Ethyl Maltol, then you’ve added 1.5% Ethyl Maltol to the recipe, and 5% of Flavorah Marshmallow Vanilla, and added 1% Vanilin…no wonder your top notes are muted!” hahaaha! It’s practically the same craft.
I’m steering clear of the standard fare. Using only natural ingredients, diluted in high grade carrier oils, no synthetics that are the mainstay of modern perfumery, not dabbling with alcohol-based perfumes (yet). And, I’m sourcing only top-tier sources of natural “materials” (what they call it). It is a real trip getting to know this world.
Anyone else have an experience like this? I checked in with Wayne Walker’s youtube stream a couple of months ago to see what he’s been up to, and he mentioned, as an aside, that he is developing a fragrance line. I remembered that once I got into it.
