DIY first order help

I got a chuckle out of you want to have “plenty”. This is the thought that leads to having so much gear and ingredients.

Some of us have years worth of nicotine in freezers, more mods than we’ll ever use and associated stuff up the wazoo. Hell, I bought a carton of 120 Boston rounds when I started mixing and I still have about 110 of them. When I look at all the stuff I have I sometimes think, WTF? I’m down to 8 years of nicotine and I was considering getting a few more years worth. It’s GAS .

Welcome @Yellowrose_2025 . I only started diy a few months ago and had done the same as yourself and read tons first before making an order. The digital scales made such a difference as to begin with I only had syringes which for me was a disaster. Oh and I got glass pipettes which didn’t work out at all and was a waste. The syringes dont forget the appeture because the ones I ordered didn’t include these and so drawing up thick liquid wouldnt get much into the syringe without the needle appeture.
Good idea with one shots. I did buy about 6 of those and only made up about 40ml each time, plus I ordered about 8 flavour concentrates which appealed to me. Then with a one shot I had liked but felt needed more of something I tried adding a percentage of a flavour concentrate like ice cream to the one shot!! Its a wonderful feeling to make something that u like! To be able to choose what you make and combinations of anything and everything.
Just don’t do a me and expect miracles in the early days( and still now for me!!). But great list and ideas you have. All the best and nice to have you here.

The possibilities are endless. Now I think the hardest part of mixing is finding flavors that suit my tastes and waiting for steeping.

@Mediocre_Remedial I am similar in that of the 30 or so flavours I’ve tried… i currently have 3 that I really like!! SSA Ice cream vanilla, craft flavours cream fresh(Fa), and Ssa shortbread cookie… am sure there are endless combinations I can work with these!!! I am staying off buying any more for a while and have plenty of one shots steeping and some vanilla Biscuit ones and ice cream Biscuit mixes…!!

I like caramel but haven’t bought a flavour because I haven’t a clue which brand to go for which is a sweet creamy type caramel? Any suggestions? Thanks.

@Lance13
I’m enjoying them  currently I’m using 3mg freebase commercial juice.
I figure I’ll keep at 3mg at first & then drop down. My ultimate goal is to get to 0 & then either quit or just vape 0 nic.

@natbone i hear ya. I have to fight not to buy more mods and tanks
Right now I’ve had my two Thelma solo mods for about a year. They are still rocking but I kinda want new ones
I might get a SBS mod coz my two Thelmas are kinda big to take out and about.

@Mediocre_Remedial yeah I’m not looking forward to the steeping. I get impatient so I’ll have to learn to not be

I can give some lengthy advice as someone who had a very hard time when I started mixing.

I’ve actually found some flavors that aren’t fruits that don’t need to be steeped for weeks or a month, that got me super excited. There’s not a lot of information regarding which ones are like that though. 24 hours is ideal for these, but they can also taste pretty good right away. Bavarian cream DX TPA seems to be good right away, tpa crunch berry, sweet crunch flavorah, I have an orange creamsicle recipe that’s good after 2 days, SSA vanilla ice cream is good after 3 days. There’s definitely benefits to steeping longer, and the flavors develop more. I’m just giving a bare minimum of when those taste good.

I didn’t listen to people when I first started when they told me to keep %'s low because I couldn’t taste anything at low %. Turns out I just have a hard time tasting some fruits, or they were the wrong types of flavors. Now that I follow that lower % advice, everything tastes way better. I also stopped trying to cobble a random 10 flavors of stuff together just because it sounded like it would taste good. I was very impatient for Individual flavor testing when I first started. Waiting a month to see if 10ml of a single flavor tasted good just sounded boring and time consuming. But it doesn’t have to take that long, and single flavors can taste very good.

Also, since taste is very subjective it can make things difficult too. For instance, a lot of people like cap vanilla custard, but I think it has a weird taste. I’ve tried some people’s recipes that have 4.5 stars and 40 comments just to find out I think it tastes terrible. Some of the older recipes with very high percentages may not taste good in newer devices, same as some people’s single flavor recommendations. Whenever I see something above 8% I get skeptical. It’s not the case with all of them, there’s definitely some weaker flavors out there, and again taste is subjective, but I’ve continued to find lower is better.

That leads to another thing that threw me off was reading that commercial juices contained as high as 30% flavor. I’m still not sure if that’s even true, but I’ve tried doing recipes with crazy high percentages thinking they would have strong flavor like commercial. They tasted horrid, even after I’d abandoned them in some place for weeks. The lower I’ve gone with the flavor, the better my stuff started turning out. I even ordered a recipe kit from Bull City, it was Mama Js custard. It tasted like ass to me, even after I let it steep for a month.

Some flavors can be very surprising of being disgusting right after mixing and being delicious a few days later. I’ve found that the flavors I like the best always seem to be the ones that smell really good right out of the bottle, so now that’s what I’m kinda aiming for when I buy new flavors.

I love sweet crunch flavor with Bavarian cream DX TPA and Cap 0.5% super sweet. I don’t even like frosted flakes, but vaping this is delicious to me, requires minimal steep time, and it’s nice and simple. That’s one last thing I can think of, sweetener. If you’re used to commercial, 0.5% might not be sweet enough at first, but it’s very sweet once you get used to it. Some people don’t even use any sweetener.

It’s overwhelming for sure, especially with thousands upon thousands of different choices and reviews that are all very different and contradictory. It’s very rewarding when you make something delicious though. Good luck!

Same here, I bought a caramel a long time ago when I started but I thought it was too overwhelming and tasted gross. I never tried to find another one.

If i would do one thing, i would most certainly change 1 -500ml PG & 1-500ml VG for one gallon of premixed 20/80 or 30/70. No need to complicate things when you can make them easy.

I would also most certainly suggest you to get 0.001g scale and not 0.01g and
i would much rather buy 30x 10ml bottles than either 10x60 or 10x120 (you don’t need them both, while small 10ml bottles will be most used probably)

maybe for your mixing style that works.
they are new to DIY and probably want to try different vg/pg ratio’s OR they want to stay consistent which is hard across different recipes without having VG PG separately

I had so many headaches using pre-mixed vg/pg its actually way simpler to get them separate.

instead of 10ml bottles i would get 30ml bottles you can just fill them up half-way to 15 if needed. these will get way more use

the scale i completely agree
