Do you use "additives" in your recipes?

Hey guys. I was just wondering how many of you use things like EM, vinegar, lemon juice, AP, etc.? Do you have any that are absolute “must haves” that you’d recommend keeping in stock? Or do you prefer making your juice without and only adding in stuff like that if absolutely necessary?

I got some MTS Vape Wizard and Bitter Wizard and I don’t think I did it right. The Vape Wizard I used in a couple and they taste…meh…which I guess is where the “mellow” of MTS comes in. The bitter wizard I put in a grapefruit/citrus mix and it didn’t seem to do anything.

I’ve read through the Master Tips and I’ll read through it again and try again, but I was curious what you masters had to say.

I use several molecules to enhance flavors. You have to be careful with them though, they can mess up a good mix real quick. Acetyl Pyrazine for the nutty/bready flavor in tobacco blends and some cake/pastry mixes and Ethyl Maltol for sweetness. EM will also smooth some harsh flavors. I also use Mentha Arvensis [also known as menthol] In low amounts it will help to blend flavors [much like salt and pepper in food does] without tasting menthol flavor.

I do as well. IMO, it’s what typically takes a liquid from ‘that’s good for a DIY juice’, to ‘OMG, that’s just awesome…period!’ A few of my favorites:

Vanillin - really makes vanillas ‘pop’ after a few days steeping
Acetyl Pyrazine - as mentioned in the other post - great for nutty, bready and ‘mouth feel’ enhancements
MTS Vape Wizard - great way to tame flavors, add a creamy mouth feel and/or enhance vapor production without adding any flavoring of its own

I definitely need to get some Acetyl Pyrazine. One of my favorite flavors right now is banana nut bread and I think it might really make it great. I’ve just started getting more creative and combining more flavors together to make new flavors and I’m lacking a lot of the little extras. I’m aiming to get to the place where I can make those really awesome liquids and replace my family’s need to buy them elsewhere. It hurts every time I hear what they spend on juice, but I know I’m not really there yet.

Mixing, mixing, and more mixing! :stuck_out_tongue:

JoJo, AP is really awesome. I use it a good bit. Be careful with it though…even a little too much will make your vape just plain as a popcorn fart…LOL…it actually imparts a kind of popcorn flavor in higher doses and essentially erases other flavors. Typically I use on average 1 drop of 5% to 10 ml juice. Will up it in some cases to 2 drops per 10 ml. However, as I often make 30ml bottles for personal use, my normal “high” is 5 drops per 30 ml bottle.

LOL so adding it to something like kettle corn might be good, too? So much to do and so little time.

I use AP, very sparingly as a little goes a long ways. I also occasionally use citric acid. The enhancers i use most often are koolada and menthol.

I agree with SthrnMixer on AP, 2 drops (per 30ml bottle) in my Naner Pudding recipe is perfect and 3-4 is overpowering. It all depends on the recipe really. I have a couple recipes i use as much as 1 drop/5ml. I definitely didnt need 4oz of it, hehe.

I have just a little 6ml bottle. Had it forever…

Oh wow. Yeah that is definitely strong stuff if one drop makes that much difference. Good to know so I don’t order a huge bottle. :stuck_out_tongue: I need to get some koolada and menthol too, I think. I am not a menthol fan at all, but I have people who are. Oy vey…I shoulda known this hobby was gonna get me into trouble.

Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it!

As far as AP goes, HERE is the only recipe I’ve used putting this much of it in there and it doesn’t negatively affect the flavor. In fact had I not mixed it myself I would not have known it was an ingredient. Thanks to this recipe and the fact I have mixed probably 500ml of it in the last couple of months, I am getting close to empty in my little AP bottle. Also let me urge you…if you like Castle Long give this recipe a go. I won’t spend another $30 for the original.

I have no idea what Castle Long is, but that recipe looks amazing and I am definitely going to try it. I think trying other people’s recipes, especially the more complicated ones, is a good way to get a feel for what’s going on with flavors. I’m struggling to do it on my own and come up with anything decent. Maybe after more practice and with more in my liquid mixing arsenal that will change.

It’s a premium liquid from Five Pawns. It gets mixed reviews - everything from amazing to horrid, but most everyone agrees that it has complexity which to me separates good juices from great ones. I love this stuff, and while the clone is not 1:1…I would call it exceptionally close as clone recipes go. There is something in the original that has a bit more intensity, and I suspect they may use some type of toasted coconut which I don’t have but would think adding just a smidge would make sense. If you have the flavors listed I encourage you to try it by going by the recipe I linked to.

I don’t have all the flavors yet, but they’re on my shopping list. I’m planning a flavor spree once I’m sure I have everything I need. :stuck_out_tongue: I thought I had a bunch of flavors (~40) until I started hanging out here and realized…I ain’t got nothin’ on y’all! LoL

I am getting acid taste and heartburn from Ejuices with fruit flavors (zoochberry cream-ko for example), I love the juice though. I have some vape wizard from FA, will this work and how much to 30 ml?

Thanks in advance,

Taz

It should knock the acidity down a bit. Little dab will do you; 1 or 2 drops per 10ml works for me. As for the heartburn, I don’t know what to tell you about that. I’ve not heard of a particular juice giving someone heartburn.
