Elderflower Flavorah (Flavour Concentrate First impressions)

Elderflower Flavorah

Set up Kayfun V3 mini, 2.5 coil @ 1.6Ω; cotton wick; 11.1W 60/40 6mg

Testing: Elderflower Flavorah @ 3% Aged: 3 days 6% aged 4 days.

From the bottle: Smell of the concentrate itself is potent, bright, more an elderflower cordial.
Flavour description: At 3% Still the cordial, from the bottle smell and a faint smokiness, over a sweet tartness, reminiscent of green guava/ DDT.
(yes, the insecticide, I like that smell)
A touch of mango skin aftertaste.

Llike the Elderflower itself that at a distance smells a bit musky & smokey but close-up is full bodied, intense, heady, sultry.

Even at 3% this intensity can taste like an unidentifiable chemical spill;
(what this is becomes clearer at 6%).
This is not a slight on Flavorah, as those who have smelled Elderflower on a summer night will know that it can smell so strong that it makes you think it is a manmade concoction.

Therein lies the dilemma for a manufacturer trying to emulate a flavour to taste/smell “natural” when the source material flower naturally has a smell with “artificial” characteristics.

Updated 6% notes:
Surprises:
-It tastes more metallic (that metallic note was present at 3%, **couldn’t sense what it was at that percentage-described it as “an unidentifiable chemical spill)”

-Sweeter.

-Doesn’t taste so much like the cordial, more like the smell of the flowers .
It also tastes a lot less complex than it did at 3 % imagine that the green guava/mango skin, DDT have properly coalesced into one flavour.

-The biggest surprise 2/3 tanks in is that i like it!, (could be Stockholm Syndrome) It has been a hard flavour to describe.

Is it Elderflower? The strange thing is that as you’re vaping it at 6% the answer would be not really;
But the aftertaste & taste on lips is Elderflower, this makes me think there is a sweet-spot percentage to be found, for those who want to achieve it.

You will have gathered, by now that this flavour is not for everyone. Not an “easy” flavour, even compared to other Floral flavours, which are not exactly mainstream.

Personally, I am interested in trying this with citrus and other bright flavours,
how that turns out remains to be seen.

Off-flavors: a hint of DDT (at 3%), metallic (at 6%).
Throat hit A standard Flavorah throat-hit (not much increase from 3 to 6%).
Uses
To be confirmed.
Pairings Citrus, Apple, and other bright flavours. To be confirmed.

NB
Will edit this post when i get some conclusions.

P.S.
I have already posted this in the DIY Sub. I thought it worth placing here also as there’s a bit of a subculture here for the less mainstream flavour profiles.

And long may it thrive!

Funny. Some flavors I think become secret ingredients in Commercial eJuice and even here under the MasterMixologists advanced recipies. Flavors like Lavender at low% hide, boost a main player and taunt the palate. This could definitely be one of those clone busters …or just keep the mosquitoes off ya in the summertime  Is there a Jägermeister vape?

Yes,
I think we’ll be seeing an increase in flavour “encryption”, for want of a better word.

There’s also a hint of the Cactus Inawera “wet” effect at 3% ,I’m debating wether it is consistent enough to include in description, if anyone else can confirm the effect, I’ll include it.

priceless!

There must be an “attempt” at least, can’t get on with it it myself.
Out of their (disclosed) Wiki) list of ingredients I like 'em all, except ,licorice, anise,
with those removed could also be something quite interesting=
“Jägermeister’s ingredients include 56 herbs, fruits, roots, and spices, including citrus peel, licorice, anise, poppy seeds, saffron, ginger, juniper berries, and ginseng”

Though a slightly different profile this could be of interest
U/underdogadam’s (@DIYsub) comment :

_"``do you think this could be turned into something like St Germain or is this a bit too much like the flowers themselves.

Edit: as far as pairings, I’d look into St Germain cocktails, some great ones include cucumber, mint, or lime".
never even heard of that drink, his sugestion appears worth investigating.

Thanks @BoDarc for taking me down that particular rabbit hole as it awoke a smell memory of juniper Berry, just from looking at the word, that may be another of the “unidentifiables” in elderflower,

will confirm after work with a very dry London Gin.

Thank you for the review!
Elderflower pairs really great with grape I find?
It is also very nice with rose and apple?
Will have to try this one out as I do love my elderflower wine!

I have to admit, I have this and have not tried it yet. I love the florals and it smells amazing, but the whole elderberry thing has me really concerned! LoL. Thanks for your thoughts. I feel slightly more confident in testing this now.

Not too confident I hope,
I’m still a bit on the fence about it myself.

the funny thing is I kind of like it,
Just don’t feel like I should .

Aren’t humans ridiculous?

I think I just need to get that sketch out of my head.

ROFL Exactly!! And there was an elderberry Emergen-C flavor at one point in time (don’t know if they still make it). It was horrible. It scarred me for life. Oh well, guess we’ll see! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m guessing you had that because they’d sold out of Blackcurrant.

Nothing ventured,
Nothing gained eh!

I’m actually looking forward to trying it with those citrus, apple, rose.

I want to try bergamot, but Bergamot & Elderflower really does sound like something that medieval knight might vape.

Bergamot & Elderflower

medieval hipster folk duo…

anyways
back to work.

Here is an elderflower recipe of mine that might give you some ideas?

The Kandi Head elderflower is very nice indeed!

As I said I do love the Eldeflower and Eldeberry flavours in the culinary world and as a vape this recipe is actually very close to the real thing, especially when left for a few weeks to steep.

Cheers @Chewy

Think i’ve got everything for that apart from the Elderflower (KH)
I’ll try a switch with the FLV

Nice 1!
