Explanation of my recent absence

smart pwm v2.2 by voltrove.com
micro pwm v.2 by mod pcb
micro pwm by DIY FancyLights
those will all do 4S i’m pretty sure

a good start is https://nonameboxmods.com/

from there, i would start with some simple builds. the micro pwm board by mod pcb is pretty simple. just hook up a potentiometer, a fire switch, a 510 and batteries. and a box, of course. requires some soldering.

if you need more info, hit me up. if you need a parts list, hit me up.
its totally exhilirating!

These flashlights sound very reliable and bright [cough] After our Chinese mods start flamingout …you might not be trimming so mang dogs …just sayin. I might need a really bright flashlight to try and repair my Cuboid in 2017 <looks around} :innocent:

Cool site!! Even has DNA 75 and Squonk kits! Do you use them to sole source everything or do you buy better bits and pieces elsewhere than they include in the kits?

I simply used them to get my feet wet. After my DNA 200 build, I started my extensive research into mods I wanted to build, components and sources of power. I looked at what others used, I asked a lot of questions, I scoured many sites, I compared many prices. I joined a couple of groups on FB and sifted through weeks of posts and pictures.
I bought a couple boards and (this part finally answers your question) I bought a few parts that I thought would fit my needs personally. I source my parts and boards from reputable vendors or, in the case of several of the PWM boards I’ve bought, directly from people who make the boards themselves.
I still don’t understand a lot of the things that I so desperately want to learn, but that won’t slow me down a bit. I need to learn more about ohms law. I need to learn more about how electricity behaves and how we want to harness it for our pleasure. I have so very much to learn about capacitors, resistors, relays, mosfets, lipos…and on and on. But I’m thoroughly enjoying myself. I love the idea of creating something that I will use on a daily basis.
Soon, I will move onto decorating these little gems I’m creating.
If you, @Big_Benny_MI, or anyone else wants to get into any of this, hit me up and I’ll give you a pointer or two.
I need to make time to chat with @therabidweasel…he knowsaid his shit…
Anyway, ima go up to my lab and learn and build.
Much love, yo!

@Whiterose0818 a parts list would be great. nonameboxmods charges to much imo. i can go to fatdaddy and get every thing i need for almost half of what he charges. mostly i am trying to figure out how i am going to set up a wood mod that i will build. but if i can find a decent shell for a decent price i will try that also. I would like to do that first actually, so when i put together my wood mod i will have a better understanding… thanks again for your help

What kind of mod are you wanting to build? That will narrow the choices down. I am currently going the route of PWM mods. I own many TC mods but have always just used the power mode the most, so it just made sense to build PWM mods. There are plenty of TC mod build options also, though, so whatever you wanna build, I’ll do my best to help, brother.

AND: to add to that, noname is a bit inflated, but for those who dont have other sources for info, or are hard pressed for time, this just brings things together for you quicker and easier. And noname has video tutorials out there to help people along. Do you know how to solder already? do you have soldering tools?

I am interested in both. Though I have a dna200 chip on order and i have a 100 watt power mode chip that came out of one of those crapy kanger boxes that were going for $25.00 a few months back. I did not realize they were different though. So i guess a list for the dna 200. Maybe some recommended vids or books or websites to get me started in the right direction

i’m at work, shaving dog ass right now…when i get outta here, i’ll shoot you some links and some info that will get you started, cool?
do you know how to solder? have solder equipment?

Back when I was studying electronic science and technology, there was a great series of books available at Radio Shack that gave great basic descriptions of individual components and how they worked alone and interacted with other components… I think the author was Forest Mims III (SP?) I don’t remember the name of the books themselves though. Of course the same info can be found on the Internet, but sometimes there is too much info and can be overwhelming. I personally do better with a book in hand than with a screen when it comes to studying. Might be worth a trip to RS and see if they still have them around, or an updated version.

yes i can solder and have a so so solderer

ok, ima get this parts list real quick, then i’m headed to my lab. some components came in that ive been waiting for, so i’m gonna build a 3s lipo pwm.
first, youll need a case. i’ll recommend either a 1590g+ or 1590g “tall” for a smaller battery or 1590b for a bigger battery. your choice in either a pre cut or you cut your own.
pre cut G+ with buttons: https://brimstone3d.com/collections/enclosures/products/alpinetech-dna200-with-buttons?variant=17024113863
pre cut B with buttons: https://www.amazon.com/Alpinetech-Milled-Aluminum-Enclosure-DNA200/dp/B01HI086FA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1470948015&sr=8-6&keywords=alpinetech+enclosure
cut your own G+: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F1UTWF2/ref=twister_B01FYCS46K?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
cut your own G “tall”: https://www.amazon.com/BMG-1590g-Tall-Aluminum-Enclosure/dp/B0184963PY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470948588&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=1590g+tall&psc=1
cut your own B: https://www.amazon.com/Alpinetech-Milled-Aluminum-Enclosure-Hidden/dp/B011XNWY9C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1470948665&sr=8-2&keywords=alpinetech
Chip holder: https://brimstone3d.com/products/dna200-bezel?variant=17118570247 or http://www.modsledz.com/product-p/dna200v2.htm
510: http://www.fatdaddyvapes.com/shop.html <~~~ i like the v3 and v4 LP shorts. the new v4 UE has an anti spin tab thats pretty nice.
14 and 24g stranded wire
buttons: not sure, but maybe on this page: http://www.varitube.com/YiHi-SX350-DIY-Parts_c_23.html
if your board doesnt have the balance charger, you will need the JST-XH Balance Charger Connector
and you need a lipo, which i would get at Hobbyking.com. and of course you will need the male end of xt60 to attach to your lipo.
you dont need a fancy solder iron, a simple one will do.

you’ll need magnets appropriate to your enclosure. I’d get those at brimstone3d.com as well. the owner at brimstone is a cool guy and helpful, so try him out.
you’ll need a fire switch, as well, which can be bought at lots of places, so wherever you buy the most stuff, buy a switch there too.
you can find lots of parts at the ati_store on ebay, as well.
um, i cant think of any other parts right now, so thats probably it.
as far as videos, start with nonameboxmods.com first…he has some pretty long winded videos, but they are in depth, so you’ll get what you need from him.

for pwm mods, i would stick with these 2:

diagrams on are on each site. on the board listing you will find the wiring diagrams.

any questions, hit me.

Thanks for all the effort putting this together! Saved all of us easily 1,000 man-hours combined. I expect this kind of thing to become it’s own Dept on ELR hehe the e in e-liquid stands for electronic doesn’t it? Kudos to you sir!

For Parts check out

thanks

One of my recent creations. I used a 1590g Hammond from mammothelectronics.com. They do the most amazing paint jobs, but they don’t mill out that “Hammond lean”. I would have liked to have ended up with a cleaner wire job, but I’m getting better. This is a micro pwm v2 from Mod PCB. I dropped that board right behind the 510 connector…check it out:
