This is a pretty long video but well worth watching through to get some information everyone is wondering…
I love how at 14:08 Dr. Shiffman makes a very compelling argument that the existence of vaping has clearly kept a number of kids from ever smoking cigarettes.
Can we harp on that point? Maybe appeal to the “Oh No The CHILDREN?!” crowd a bit rather than let them continue to be mislead?
So I’m not sure why you titled this like you did. None of the speakers have a vote when it comes to what it will take to actually change the FDA regs, and not one of them seems to be saying anything like they aren’t “as bad as we thought”. Also CSPAN3? Yikes. This needs some highlights or most anyone who isn’t already a vaping advocate is going to tune out when they see it’s 2 hours long.
I skipped a bit of all but the first speaker, but quick highlights from the parts I did watch:
The previously mentioned part from 14:08 - 16:42 is so good, I would like to cut out to it’s own video and post on social media. I don’t know what CSPAN’s policy is on that sort of thing, but what’s the worst they can do, give me a cease and desist?
1:38:32 - 1:44:28 is a frank discussion of the financial forces at play and is especially fantastic.
1:46:11 - 1:48:26 is a nightmare trainwreck of a which China manufacturer maybe sent this lady and just what does she want? My advice: please don’t show this part to anyone.
edit: OK, so this works - http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4608661/vaping-reg-tax-implications and http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4608660/vaping-prevents-kids-smoking
I said the way I did because of the FDA stating what they said about facts being presented about public health and how data can bring change. Also, my title says “may” not end up as bad not “will” not end up as bad. I’m am trying to put positive motions in the scheme of this as well because all gloom and doom does not seem to be a very motivating push towards our best efforts for actions on our right to vape. There is a positive side of this and it must be understood that the FDA can’t ignore data that can cause them a costly blow to them down the road. This can absolutely happen and they don’t want that…
They may not have a vote but it’s absolutely vital that they speak up. The public opinion about vaping is whipped up against it with disinformation and scaremongering. People working in the health industry, and everyone else for that matter, speaking out against this twisting of facts is exactly what we need to turn this around.
The FDA is getting away with draconian measures precisely because a large segment of the population is applauding it because they don’t know better. I’ve seen emotional comments by people in favour of these regulations because they’ve seen a family member dying of lung cancer. They should be in favour of vaping, not against, but they don’t know the facts and will never know them if the circle of misinformation is not broken by others like the people in this video.
Also they consistently speak about the enormous harm reduction of e-cigarettes and the illogic of the FDA regulations in the light of that.
Nuggets of information in this about diacetyl for instance, one cigarette contains 8X the amount of diacetyl that you will get from a whole day of constant vaping a liquid containing diacetyl. Now that’s the kind of stuff people need to hear.
I thought this was well worth watching for 2 hours, thanks for the link @Beaufort_Batches!

I’m not coming down on you at all for posting this, I just found the subject line misleading. I came in expecting to read some good news, and what I found was something nice, but ultimately it’s something that needs to be reduced to sound bites and distributed like mad, because if we don’t act FDA regs WILL end up as bad as they currently stand.
Please feel free to share the links to the clips I made or make your own clips. I really doubt you’re going to get a non-vaper to sit down and watch all 2 hours, but if there are parts that make you stand up and shout 'WHY DON’T PEOPLE GET THIS?!" those are the parts to make into clips and share.
