This shape [egg or olive] works very well with VG mixes. You will learn fast what size bar works best with the size batch you make. I have every shape and size stir bar they make, and each has it’s own uses. These are great to begin with.

And I strongly suggest this rod to remove/change out your stir bars.

It’s 220V for the UK, and the motor will probably last longer-run cooler [the motor]…than a 110V, but the magnet is the same size in both.

@Pugs1970

This one is very interesting to me, and I am not familiar with it [shape, mfg]
I wish it had a lot of specs for it.

looks nice and good price too, high shipping though, I don’t know what makes a good one and what makes a bad one to be honest but appears to be a strong stirrer, and can be left on for a long time, I am presuming they are both good qualities :+1:

The magnet size and type are the most important, then the motor. You have an advantage with 220V because the motor runs cooler than a 110V like here in the USA.

Are these on ebay UK your only options? Do you have another UK site I can search on? Amazon?

If it was me, had to choose between these two, I would choose the second one [last one] for the simple reason that I have no need for a hotplate function, so at the same cost level, the non-heated one has more money spent on the motor and magnet, and not in a heating coil.

The SH-2 looks like it was made in a BIPPEE factory [by shape] and I trust BIPPEE, the last one doesn’t look familiar, but looks like better stirring components.[if price holds true versus amenities]

No no there’s plenty on amazon too, ebay was just the first place I looked on…

still some good prices on Amazon too, that one is free shipping!

When you look at the model numbers, they will be similar to LJ-1 SH-1 LJ-2 SH-2 SH-3 SH-4 etc etc
Look at the rpm’s difference…the SH-1 has a higher rpm in general, they use the speed to compensate for a small magnet for stirring power, and all volumes that they claim it will stir …30ml, 1L, 2L, etc is for water viscosity/liquid thickness. You need a larger magnet, minimum an SH-2 model to get the torque for VG mixing…MINIMUM…anything above an SH-2 is a huge plus, but they cost more. I have some Barnstead’s and Corning mixers that cost well over $750 USD [SH-6 SH-8] I have an SH-12 that will stir 4L of motor oil, a couple of SH-8’s that will stir 4-2L flasks at the same time…
.

For example, this Barnstead [Super NUOVA stirrer] has no hotplate, will stir at 32F (0C) environment, and only costs $1000USD…but it will perfectly repeat stirring cycles.
Edit: And it is only 0-1200rpm’s

jeez a 12? that sounds like it could stir rocks! :flushed: well that’s really useful info ozo thanks for that, I have more of an idea what I am looking for now :+1: much appreciated :+1::+1:

If I can be of any help, just holler.
The more I look at this one, the more interesting it is. I need some more specs (pulling my hair out)
What was it…$48GBP plus shipping… on ebay? This one is free shipping and no waiting from China.

yeah i noticed that, it works out around Ā£10 cheaper, looks like a good deal, I’ll def give you a holler before I pull the trigger on one, you think that’s worth putting on the short list then??

Yes. There is not really much to the inside of one that is analog…motor, magnet, rheostat basically.
Lower rpm and higher volume capacity just simply says larger magnet. I don’t see how they can fake that.

awesome :+1: on the short list it goes then…:+1:

Magnets do lose strength over time, which is why you can buy used mag stirrers from labs, etc. They replace them at certain intervals. They will still work for e-juice (most of the time), but starting off buying a NEW mixer with a small magnet is like pissin’ in the wind, eh?

you get what you pay for in this day and age, it’s a consumer market, some people see that as a good thing, I’m not one of those people lol, I’d rather wait a bit longer and put more money into something of quality than dash out and buy the cheapest version of what I am looking for only to have to replace it a week later

weighing and magnetic stirrer has changed my mixing experiance completely for the better

Because of my career and using magnetic stirring for over 50 years, when I starting making juice, I thought everybody used a mag-stirrer…honestly,…especially knowing the ingredients.
