First batch very horrible

I just joined this form about 10 minutes ago. I joined this forum because I have questions. I made my first vape juice about 3 days ago. I’ve made three batches trying three different combinations. They all tasted like hell all I could taste was the PG. I tried to duplicate just a straight up 80/20 with 5% nicotine mix. In one batch I used 10% nicotine VG base 50%. 30% vg, and 20% PG. the next batch was almost identical except the 10% VG salt was the base with 30% VG and 20% pg. I added no flavorings. it seems all I can taste is the PG and I’m mixed the heck out of that stuff. What am I doing wrong? Or is it possible to get a bad batch of PG?

It’s possible anything could be bad. If you post the recipes yiu tried we can probably help a bit more. Also where did you get the nicotine from and what concentration is it?

I got three types of vegetable glycerin from liquid barn. One of them had a 10% salt nicotine strength. Another one was 10% regular nicotine unsalted, this is also vegetable glycerin. And another thing of food grade vegetable glycerin to dilute. Also I got there brand of propylene glycol no nicotine added. They’re really all pretty generic kosher grade food type ingredients. I thought I was going as simple as I possibly could for my first batch. also most flavored Vapes I get in 80/20 are very smooth. I don’t like the propylene glycol throat hit. You would think with just straight up VG and PG and an 80/20 mix it would be pretty smooth. Not my stuff ugh!

What mg nic/salts are your bases?

10% is 100mg according to there site

I got two bottles of 10% nicotine strength VG one salted one not from liquid Barn. So that would make them 100 mg. I also got some regular VG to dilute that down to 5% strength in my mix. So I ended up mixing 50% 10% strength VG with an additional 30% to water it down and 20% PG. I’m mixing by volume in containers of known size which I got from liquid barn.

Sounds like to high nic content in your mix. You should only use 5% of your nicotine in your mix

It is 5% in the final mix or at least it should be. I only use 50% of the 10% mix, I mixed in 30% more regular vegetable glycerin, with 20% propylene glycol.

50% would be 50mg that’s a lot hope your not using a sub ohm tank. Should be something like this 70% vg (no nic) 30%pg (no nic) and 5% of your 10%100mg nic mix

I’ve gotten quite used to buying the 50 mg strength vape juices. I want to duplicate my own.

The regular nic at 50mg would be very harsh! the salt should be smoother they use salt in the high nic juice

I just added a big squirt of VG base honeydew flavor to the salt one. I’m going to see what it tastes like tomorrow but for tonight I’m giving up on all this stuff.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Might want to read as much as you can about steeping and single flavor testing before you start mixing. My guess is you will have much success by practicing these two skills.
In search topics and posts(click magnifying glass character next to your “Y” name logo) upper right hand corner of this page, could type in:
Steeping
Single Flavor testing

liquid barns Vegetable Glycerin is Musim Mas a very good VG , Their PG is DOW which is pretty much what everyone else has…Both are high Quality Bases.

Your Nicotine Content is High and with Their Unsalted which is Regular Free Base Nicotine will be very Harsh its an extreme amount of Nicotine especially if you using anything besides a Caliburn type device , but even then FB Nic at 5pct will be harsh …

Your never going to get good results doing this…As easy as mixing can be doing this will assure thatbits a difficult process.

These liquids are Salt Nic …What kind of device are you using ? These Recipes are typically simple BUT you have to know how high you can push a flavor and what type of flavors work best with POD devices…

You will be able to , but first you need to learn the difference between the types of Nicotine available , how to use calculator and patience …These companies employ chemist or people thatbhave been mixing for years . 3 days of mixing isnt gonna get you there …

I dont understand this comment…Just Vg and PG and a 80/20 mix ???

I finally came up with an option that worked. I just started getting VG a little bit of the time, and testing in my spare vapes. I finally got a mix that is tolerable. I must have just made a really big mistake with the PG, or did something else I’m not sure what. I’m not sure what my final vgpg ratio was but I got something tolerable so I’m just going to start treating these things like I’m cooking, and add ingredients to smoothness desired. I’m going to go with much smaller batches too.

Oh yeah.
You’re all over the place.
That’s not a dig, that’s just how so many of us began our mixing journey and it just looks all too familiar.
I got my first kit 2 years ago from liquid barn and mixed the 14 flavors and liter of PG/VG in two nights.
I had done what I thought was research on YouTube but really didn’t have any idea what I was doing.
That liter of mixed flavors is still in my cupboard, two years later. It was all straight Nascar.
I’ve since learned how to mix, more importantly how not to, and also learned to keep notes.
Sounds boring but it will save you a lot of money.

A little better notes than that.
There’s lots of threads in the FAQs that will help you mix better.
Read them, and learn the abbreviations, and mix with no nic in small bottles to start.
Or end up with liters of nasty ejuice till you get good.

Yeah I’m not afraid of making a few mistakes. I’m like a great big kid with a new chemistry set, don’t know what’s going to happen. I truly appreciate all the feedback good or bad. Time to go to work now though.
