Hey everyone. I’ve got a little simple pomegranate blackberry mix I made that I believe has a lot of potential for my palate. I’ve been thinking of ways to make it more complete without changing what I like about it, thought I might as well think out loud and get advice…
Blackberry TPA 1.5%
Pomegranate Deluxe TPA 3.0%
That’s it. It’s simple but it’s rich, dark and slightly sweet and vaguely creamy.
My only major complaint is that I get a slight hint of a burnt, flattened taste occasionally as an aftertaste. But otherwise I believe it’s just a recipe that is lacking a bit in top note and mouth feel.
I’m hoping by rounding the recipe out a bit more that slightly off/burnt taste might be masked. But perhaps Blackberry needs to be cut down by .25% or something? I know this juice tastes like nothing but burnt plastic in my wife’s pod, and she’s run pomegranate deluxe through it before without problem. So this leads me to believe this off note is coming from the Blackberry?
I was considering adding 1-1.5% TPA raspberry to bring out the top notes more? I feel like Blackberry shares some similar bright bits of flavour with raspberry?
Also 1% TPA Dragonfruit to blend the 3 fruits together a bit and add some moisture?
I feel like they are pretty safe and tested additions?
Should I add something to bring out that velvety dark mouth feeling? I was considering FA Cream Fresh? But it’s a new flavour I haven’t actually tested yet. Is this something you would pursue? Or do you think the DF will add enough mouth feel?
Obviously I’m just going to make several 10ml iterations all at once and see what works best. But I just thought I’d see if I’m barking up the right tree?
Check out my flavour stash and tell me what you think?
Thanks in advance.
I would say yeah, 1-1.5 tfa raspberry would be a really welcome addition with blackberry/pomegranite, add in 1% FA pear to boost the overall “juicyness”, sweeten to taste & see where you’re at.
Oh yeah! I keep forgetting about the Pear. I only got it the other week. Haven’t tested it yet either, but isn’t it more of a ‘wet’ feeling? DF has that slight creamyness and I want to bring that out of the pomegranate more.
Would you run Pear with DF? Or are they just both doing similar things in different ways?
If you plan on using dragonfruit i think i would probably stick with the one of them tbh? FA pear could work perfectly fine with it, however it may distract from what you initially want to achieve with the dragonfruit?
It would be worth testing it though because pear does work extremely well with blackberry & raspberries & lots of other fruits too, basically anything you want ta add a little juicyness to.
Yes from my experience FA pear can bring some syrupy juiciness and slight body. Dragon fruit will also add a creamy body. You could also try a marshmallow really low .50-.75% as it will add body as well as masking that off note and sweetening the overall mix. You might want to increase the BlackBerry and pomegranate slightly if using any of these flavors so they don’t get muted.
Thanks for that. I was planning on leaving the pom and BB untouched for now and seeing what these other additions do. But I was actually very curious because I have this sneaking feeling the BB is too high, but it might mellow out in the mix. I think it’s the Pom I’m really enjoying in the mix so I might turn that up .5%
As for the marshmallow, early on I was using 0.5% marshmallow(I’ve only got DX) to try and save crappy mixes and I think I fell in to the trap of using it in everything. But it just seemed to mute the top note on everything? Admittedly I never really tried turning the base notes up higher and kept writing them off as marshmallow mistakes.
If it’s only occasionally first thing I would check the equipment you are using. Sound’s like the coil is running hot for the wattage or it’s not wicking your juice like it should. Are you scratching the coil wicking before priming. By scratching the paper between the holes in the coil sides it will allow more juice to enter the coil faster.
Actually I’m not a huge fan of TPA BlackBerry as I get a lot of soapy/floral notes from it at any %. And @1.5 its hitting the ceiling for that BB, so you could drop that down by .5%, and yes up the Pomegranate by .5%. And then try adding the Pear and or DF. The TPA Raspberry Sweet would also work well with the pomegranate as it becomes more jammy as it steeps.
