How about talking about nicotine consumption?

The purpose of this topic is not alarmism about substance, but rather a sharing of experience as vapers!
I believe that many of us find ourselves here talking about the subject because we initially seek to quit smoking, in my case the vaping was the solution to quit, and after 11 months without touching the tobacco, it remains. At first it was spectacular because, besides not smoking, it consumed less nicotine than the 30 cigarettes in average that smoked daily.
I quickly started to make diy, and to buy hardware more evolved than simple iGO, consequently, juice consumption increased, and consumption of nicotine alike. I find myself now doing accounts and thinking that I use more nicotine than I did when I smoked, and it’s something that worries me.
Now if my calculations are correct, it consumed about 30 mgs. +/- when I smoked, now I vaping an average of 15 mls daily with 3 mg, I started to consume 45 mgs. or am I wrong? If I noticed the calculation, it’s 3 mg of nicotine, the milliliter, right, or am I completely wrong?
I apologize for the bad English, and I hope you made me understand.

My understanding is that a cigarette contains around 10-20mg of nicotine (depending on the type), so even at 45mg or more per day from vaping, you’re only consuming a few cigarettes worth of nicotine

i have no clue how to figure this out , but if my memory serves me well id say i think i read that 3mg 30ml bottle is same as pack of ciggs but i could be completely wrong om not sure , to be honest it isnt the nicotine that concerned me while i smoked it was the other 100s of bad shit

My understanding is that the nicotine content is per ml. So 1ml of 3mg contains 3mg nicotine. 30ml bottle = 90mg’s of nic. Iv also heard, like VapeyMama said, that a regular stinkie contains around 20 mg’s of nic. 1 30 ml bottle 90mgs nic. 30 cigs = 300 to 600+ mg’s of nic a day (amount of nic per cig is dependent on many different factors). If anyone can disprove any of this be my guest and please provide sources because I have people I would like to share them with. My question is this, If nicotine is a concern why not cut back on nic or go to nic’less liquid?

I think this is what most vapers aim for. I started at 12mg, quickly dropped to 9mg, and then incremental lowered it until I got down to 1mg.

Interesting read if your up to it.

Results Nicotine yields from automated smoking machines suggest that e-cigarettes deliver less nicotine per puff than traditional cigarettes, and clinical studies indicate that e-cigarettes deliver only modest nicotine concentrations to the inexperienced e-cigarette user. However, current e-cigarette smokers are able to achieve systemic nicotine and/or cotinine concentrations similar to those produced from traditional cigarettes. Therefore, user experience is critically important for nicotine exposure, and may contribute to the products’ ability to support and maintain nicotine dependence.”

According to the Royal College of Surgeons (at least I think it was them, if not another respected doctor), nicotine is about as harmful as caffeine and that vaping is at least 95% better than smoking. Or in other words, not really harmful. It’s the smoke from cigs that does the damage, that’s the smoke from tobacco and the other 10’s if not hundreds of chemicals that are in cigs.
On saying that, I am now down to 1.5mg nic, I started vaping @ 18mg and slowly decreased it so I wouldn’t notice the drop, and it worked perfectly for me.
Some have worked their way down to no nic at all.

After all, I thought … Nicotine in e-liquid is measured by milliliter, and in tobacco, it is measured by cigarette, and I believe it is 0.7mg 1 cigar, depending on the brand, obviously! my concern is to avoid exaggerations … as well as reduce the 6 cafes
I drink daily! I tried to reduce the nicotine in the liquids, but it led me to a greater consummation of e-liquid, to remove my anxiety.

Well, I’m not 100% sure about that. Lowering it, maybe, but not full elimination. I took that path and stopped using the NIC for a few months. But I found that I like the NIC; it’s like my caffeine fix. Plus, a lot of people don’t understand that it’s not the NIC that males smoking so dangerous. It’s the tar and the thousands of chemicals that get ya. A lot of people think NIC needs to be eventually eliminated because of the dangers, but that’s not so much a worry. I’m sure you folks here know all this; I’m referring to new vapers or those who equate nicotine with the myriad health issues cause by smooking,

If you choose to eliminate NIC, that’s great, your call. But make sure it’s a decision made from a preference standpoint and not one of fearing health issues.

Did you gradually drop the ammount of nic, or make a big change in one go.
Try droping the nic by 0.5 at a time, get used to it for a week or 2 and drop another 0.5.
I find it hard to believe that you’ll even notice it if you do it that way.

I too tried 0 nic and decided to stay @ 1.5mg.

Same for me, when I started it was ce3’s and I dont know if rta’s even existed yet. Iv tried 0 nic but I found I still like between 1 and 3 mg nic, perhaps 1 day right? And Im totally happy with that amount and the fact that I have been able to reduce nic over time. 6mg in most my devices is too harsh for my taste. I am on your side of the fence and believe that ecigs are better for your health.

Yeah I’d agree with that. I honestly can’t see myself going 100% nic free because I do enjoy a little bit of it. I’ve been at 1mg for a couple months and do occasionally vape 0nic, and I’m thinking I might drop it down to .5mg pretty soon here, and have that on hand in addition to the 0nic juice.

More than just believing, there’s more and more research coming out that supports it. :+1:

I started at 24mg 3 years ago. Now I use 9mg in rtas and 3mg in rdas. My body tells me when it is time to step down nic. Last few mornings I’ve been getting mini head rushes so in new mixes I’ll use 8mg. I only step down when my body says it’s time. I will not risk jonesing for nic. I refuse to worry about nic levels. I am not smoking and that’s enough for me.

When I started vaping, with the traditional kits, I consumed 2 mls at 9 mg, then I started to make my 3 mg liquids because I also started to vaporize DL, and abandon the MTL. Only now I vaping much more liquid than before. I think every time I reduce nicotine, I increase the consumption of liquid. if I vaporize juices with 6 mls, I reduce the consumption of liquid to half. lol

Just listen to your body. Like @Letitia said, you very well may get to the point where you’re feeling the nicotine a little more than you want to, and that’s the perfect point to drop it down. If you start lowering your nic sooner than your body is ready for, you will definitely vape more to make up the difference (as you’ve already experienced).

I vape 7.5mg/ml x 4ml per day= 30mg per day
If some is on 3mg/ml x 50ml per day =150mg per day. This is how I calc it.

Well, I’m going to have to find a middle ground, because the nicotine here is very expensive, with the rates and laws that the government imposes … In Portugal it is only allowed to buy shots 10 mls with 20 mgs. for a price of around $ 5.
Unfortunatly here it costs so much to vape, that to smoke, thing that does not make sense. :desapontado:c
