Thank you. Am strongly considering getting in one. Also really like the “nitrous 24 mil” but you have to get wicking spot on or it leaks. (Took me 4 goes to get right) It’s bottom air flow.

Nah, rayon is still cellulose, like cotton. No plastic involved. They “melt” plant cellulose, chemically, then re-extrude it into fibers. It’s basically ultra refined cotton. The fibers are long and uniform and void of anything that isn’t long uniform fiber. To me, if cotton is like a sponge then rayon is like a bundle of tiny straws. It wicks beautifully and doesn’t swell at all. For me it’s easier to work with, lasts longer than cotton and when it does get dry it doesn’t burn nearly as harshly as cotton. I can tell a dry hit is coming long before it actually does.

All that to say - everyone has their own preference. Get both, try both, use whatever you prefer. You will get it wrong at first regardless of your wick choice. Too loose, too tight. Tails too thin, too thick. Just keep at it until you get a feel for it. Eventually it becomes second nature.

The cost of entry can feel high. It really depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. I keep spending more on it because I can, and like trying new or different things. I’ll pick up a new atomizer or mod just because I want to try finding my sweet spot for that one. Now I’ve got like 13 sweet spots, lol. I enjoy that process.

But you can get away with one atomizer and once you have a stock of the consumables the costs drop precipitously, especially if you’re DIYing your juice.

i switch flavors constantly and with rayon the change is immediate and dosen’t hold onto the previous flavor
my wicks are usually still clean and whiteish after 2 weeks of use.
can’t say that about cotton
wicking rayon takes a little more care though in my experience

love rayon

I just learned something about rayon that I didn’t know. I knew there’d be differing opinions and that’s why I started this thread. I wanted to know the pros and cons.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Geek Vape ZEUS X 25mm RTA? It seems to have gotten some pretty good reviews, but it’s been around for quite a few years. I have no complaints about the GeekVape stuff that I’m using now, very good build quality.

I do have a tendency to go down rabbit holes and get obsessed with my new found hobbies…but I’m trying to keep that under wraps right now because I’m not working and living on my wifes income alone. She doesn’t make great money.

if you scroll down in this thread a bit i had a bit of a debate with @Sprkslfly about rayon. and others chimed in as well. theres a few other threads about rayon too if you use the search function

i bought 500 feet of it for like 15$ called grahams cellu-cotton
years ago and ive barely made a dent. it will last me many more years
very affordable

I use their 30x2+40 in my Geekvape ZXs and am very happy with the flavor.

I just read the entire thread. I guess it boils down to personal preference. It seems that rayon absolutely has the convenience factor. It lasts longer and seems to wick better and is great for changing flavors…all things that appeal to me. I’ve hit many a cigarette filter which are cellulose, probably rayon, nasty nasty stuff. At the end of it all, we really don’t want to be doing dry hits with either cotton or rayon. Thanks for the redirect to the rayon thread.

Can you explain to me how the numbers work. I think the first number is the wire gage, 2nd number is coil inner diameter, and the third number is maybe the leg spread, is that correct?

That’s a fused clapton coil, 2 strands of 30awg wire for the core, with a 40awg wire wrapped over top. Material it’s made out of will vary.

Oh ok…I was totally wrong then! LOL I get it now, thanks. That makes a whole lot more sense.

Sorry, Xalky99, I just saw this but I see that big_vape took care of
the answer (thank you!).

I have two Geekvape Zeus X rtas going right now and am very happy with them.
I use the coils that I mentioned in my other post. They are 2.5mm inner diameter and I add a half wrap by bending one leg down so they are going the same way,

I cut the legs to 6.5mm using a Coily tool

I install them so that the legs just touch the base and then snip off the ends underneath the build deck after they are tightened down.
I generally align the outer edges of the coil to the outer edges of the build deck.
I trim my wicks so that they are just through the wicking ports.

After it’s all juiced up, if I think the cotton looks too thick or feel my hits are a little dry, I might trim the cotton a bit in these areas,

Sometimes you can see the deck through the cotton. If I do thin it, I pretty much leave the wicks alone at the ports, just thinning between there and the coils.
Occasionally I’ll not have to mess with my wicks, but I’m not at all consistent with my wicking so sometimes I need to touch things up a bit.

Great post. If I do get one of these I will refer to this post for guidance.

Thank you!
I wish you much enjoyment and no hassles with whichever RTA(s) you decide on!

I did try to link to the coils I use but something went wonky and it didn’t show up right.
The link in 2whiskeymike’s post takes you to the menu with all of the coil options though.

I put the coils in my cart. I’m in a toss up between the HellVape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA and the Geekvape Zeus X rta. I’m probably gonna get the HellVape because my favorite vendor has it in stock at a very reasonable price. Do you use cotton or rayon wicks? I like the idea of using rayon, for all the practical reasons, except that I’m still on the fence about the healthiness of it.

the rabbit 3 comes with the coily tool so need to buy one just FYI

rayon may have trace chemicals from processing but so will cotton, heavy metals, waxes, degumming, scouring.

cotton likes to gunk up and turn dark which can create more byproducts like acrolein.

im more worried about cotton personally but neither is “healthy”

I have a Dead Rabbit 3 as well, though I don’t use it very often right now. I still have the coils in that came with the kit but they seem to need more power than I like to use so I only give it a whirl now and then.
(didn’t want to replace them as they’re hardly used - should just swap them out, lol)
Seems to be a good tank from the little I’ve used it.

I got a pretty big box of rayon (the cellucotton from Sally’s) when I first got into rebuildables a few years ago. I tried it a few times then but guess I found the cotton easier for me to use so really haven’t given it a solid go.
Maybe when I swap those coils out of the DR3 I’ll give the rayon another try.

So apologies if this has been covered cos ive not read the thread you posted but afaik cellucotton and rayon should be distinctly different?
From what ive read, theyre both made using different processes.

my box of cellucotton says 100% rayon fibres
im sure there is different processes to get rayon depending on needs/purpose

So your post made me curious. I just went to amazon to see what I had put in my cart and indee it was cotton, Amazon.com, but there is also one that is 100% rayon here, Amazon.com : Graham Cellucotton Beauty Coil 100% Rayon, Regular : Beauty & Personal Care. The boxes look identicle so, it’s important to pay attention to the details of the description. Same price too. Check out the links. I’m glad I caught that.
