Another one…

CCTV shows e-cig battery exploding inches from baby’s pram

Saw this this morning, I can’t for the life of me fathom why anyone would put 2 loose batteries in their pocket with other metal objects…
I’ve got no patience or sympathy for these people, I’m just so thankful that that baby wasn’t harmed.

Grrrrrrrrrr is all I can manage. Grrrrrrrrr :rage:

It’s good that now they can see an issue that isn’t necessarily mod related, although that’s how they reported it on “This Morning”

They just showed one on the local news out of California of a man’s pocket sparking. They are blaming ecigs for that but no info was given.

ETA: This pisses me off because I’m on the east coast and this is on my local station. They will blast the story all morning. Like Lolly said, grrrrrrrr!

I’m on the east coast too and I just saw the same news report…it actually showed both of these incidents…I can’t believe the news reporters actually pointed out that there have been 100 incidents of ecigs exploding since 2009…but they can’t mention the number of cell phones that have exploded since then

Or the number of house fires, and lives lost, due to careless cigarette smoking.

That happens so often it doesn’t even make the news any more.

When someone is an idiot, there’s never a shortage of bad results within their grasp.

Merry Christmas,

Someone wants us to keep smoking, sure - it’s safer.

Someone needs to post the statistics of the number of people who died from vaping and exploding batteries (vs) the number of people who died of heart or lung problems caused from smoking over the last year. Smoking will fall to an all time low in the next years because the folks who survive their habit will become vapers.

A few things…

  1. Did anyone notice that he was:
    a. Standing in the exact right spot. (the fire sign above)
    b. Ran the direction the sign said.
    c. Managed to hit the pose depicted in the sign while running away.

(I know, probably too soon, but I have to find something to laugh about, or I’d be inclined to choke the shit out of the next moron that crossed my path, in an attempt to put some balance back into the universe. Lol)

Seriously though, what blows my mind, is that he runs past the kid in the carriage, showering it with sparks (never mind the fumes and chemicals being ejected), rather than the other direction to protect the child. :rage:

I had to lol your posting name is short for sparks will fly - not lol at you.

The media gets something in their teeth and they just bang on about it forever what they fail to say is that it is only the occasional idiot that doesnt bother to do the right thing. If they ever ban vaping based on the idiots then they would also have to ban cars, motorbikes, chainsaws powertools the list goes on …

Lol! Glad you got it!

Yeah, it’s not something I do frequently (when it comes to electronics), but rather a nym taken “in appreciation” of those who support my favorite profession. You see, I’m one of the folks who has to put the “magic smoke” back into the capacitors and such (including the sparks), once they’ve been released by the “brilliant folks” that think it’s OK to wrap tinfoil around a blown AGC fuse for example…

TLDR: I repair audio electronics and tube gear.

PS: yes, on rare occasion, I have been known to “let sparks fly”. I try to limit it to being only verbally though. And even then, I try to keep it a small event. /chuckles

I used to restore vintage ham equipment. Nothing like the sound of the old tube gear. The room gets a nice aroma too, from the tubes cooking. I know you know what I mean.

Also note that it was an “e-cigarette battery” and not just a battery or torch battery…
