I log into this site a few times a month max in order to get my measurements from my recipes. I have contributed recipes and explored others’. This time when I went to log in, I got the blacklist page… No idea why, doesn’t matter… To get this kind of complete roadblock, to have such an utterly asinine total blockade like this that sweeps up the most basic of users is insane… To make me reach out to some dark org that compiles lists of people to get them to remove me, and having to give them my name and contact info via their form makes this site feel grimy and sketchy… Is this nonsense going to be around for a while? Does anyone know if the developer has completely lost their mind? Just hoping to find out so I know if I should stop recommending to every vaper I meet to use this site…
I keep the site open in a separate browser tab anyway, so when that occasionally happens to me, hitting the back button has always worked.
As to the wtf portion, I’m sure there are others here who have an inkling as to why Lars does what he does (and I’m sure it’s for a good reason, site scraping for instance)
ELR has wrnt through a few spamming issues , people scraping the site and other issues so there is a reason why this started happening. Her are a few reasons why it might of happened to you…If you fall into the “innocent” category then we apologize for inconvenience, however its a part of the soaftware and will stay…
People get their IP blacklisted from forums for abusing the site, such as spamming, hacking, or violating terms of service, and for having their IP associated with malicious activity like malware or illegal acts. Other reasons include a previous user on their IP address range being a known abuser, or a security measure like multiple failed login attempts triggering a ban.
Abusive and malicious activity
- Spamming: Sending excessive posts, off-topic content, or advertisements.
- Hacking/malicious acts: Attempting to gain unauthorized access to accounts or the site itself.
- Phishing: Engaging in activities to trick users into revealing personal information.
- Sending malware: Your IP address may be associated with a device that has sent viruses or malware.
Security and network issues
- Shared IP addresses: If you use a shared network, such as an office or apartment complex, another user’s actions could get the entire IP range blacklisted.
- Dynamic IP addresses: Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may have previously assigned your IP address to a user who was banned, and your IP is now on the same block.
- Proxy servers/VPNs: Some forums block open proxy or VPN IP addresses because they are often used by spammers and malicious actors to conceal their identity.
- Brute-force attacks: Too many failed login attempts from the same IP address can trigger a temporary ban as a security measure.
Other reasons
- Terms of service violations: Breaking the forum’s rules can result in an IP ban, regardless of whether it was intentional or a mistake.
- Administrator error: In rare cases, a ban can be an accident or a misinterpretation of rules by an automated system or a human moderator.
- Geographical restrictions: A forum may block IP addresses from specific countries due to legal or licensing reasons.
