Joyetech ATOPACK Dolphin review by Mjag

Thank you for taking the time to view my review of the Atopack Dolphin which was sent to me directly from Joyetech for the purpose of this review.

So what’s the deal with this starter kit?

I wasn’t too excited about reviewing another starter kit but then I checked and found it for around $17 shipped. Being the cheap ass that I am that actually excited me… I have reviewed some starter kits in the past as well which were more expensive but they impressed me so thought I would give this a shot.

Well it is plastic and a lot of it, seems durable enough, I did drop it on a tile floor…on purpose I swear. About the only thing that happened was the pod popped off, put it back on and good to go.

You need to install a coil to get it working so I installed the Deep Lung (DL) coil which is were I started. A little tricky to get the pod off at first but after awhile I found an easier way.If you hold it with the fire button facing your thumb just use your thumb to push at the top until you hear that pop. From there it makes it much easier to remove.

Fill up is not bad if your using unicorn bottles but can get a little messy with glass dropper bottles. It holds 6ml though so not like you will be filling it a lot, TPD version only holds 2ml though.

Now it is a Direct Voltage mod but capped at 50 watts, smart idea there. Now you might be thinking that would be too much for the MTL 1.2 ohm coil but at that resistance it is going to max out at under 15 watts.

Vaping the Deep Lung coil

After priming the coil with the juice you will be using, Joyetech does include a card reminding you to do just that. I began vaping and thought hmmm, pretty good but I was getting that plasticy taste you get with plastic tanks. Kept vaping it and yep, plasticy taste but thought maybe my juice, I don’t know. After that tank put in some creamy juices and that was much better, looks like the juice will make a difference with this kit. For plastic tanks it is recommended you do not use Citrus, Banana, Cinnamons etc. but the Dolphin is made of PETG and Silicon for the tank section.

For under $20 shipped I could recommend this to someone starting vaping based on the DL coil.

Vaping the MTL coil

The options definitely grow when you get into MTL. Not only do they include 2 mouthpiece reducers.

But you can also customize the coil

Reducer already come preinstalled on MTL

Remove it and the airflow increases significantly

With the reducer on the MTL coil it was way too tight for my tastes and really couldn’t taste anything. When I removed it it was much better for me, still not as much flavor as the DL coil but that could be just based on my preference, I am a DL vaper the vast majority of the time.

  • Nice budget friendly starter kit which can be found for around $17 shipped
  • Easy to find big fire button
  • Battery life
  • Large 6ml juice capacity in the non TPD version
  • A lot of MTL options

  • Some juices can give off a plastic taste
  • Can be tricky to remove pod to refill
  • Average to good, just not great flavor

I won’t be using this after my review but will gladly PIF it to a smoker who wants to quit. I have tried better starter kits but a lot of them are from little known companies which are difficult to source not only the kits but the coils as well. At least with a big company like Joyetech you should be able to source coils easily.

While not a glowing recommendation you have to factor in price and I have RDA’s and RTA’s in my review que at the same time. With that said I wasn’t annoyed when I took the Dolphin on the road with me, it served me well and my eyeballs weren’t itching to get home and use something else.

Check out how this stacks up to other tasty vape gear and meet the Steampugs team of reviewers. Your bound to have a good time and read up on some great products, not so great ones too

Nice review!
Was looking at something similar to purchase for my Mum as I am determined to get her off the dreaded cigs!
Thanks for posting!

It’s such a funny looking thing . Brilliant price for a beginner setup though!

Great review beaut.

Wow, gotta say I’m impressed with the 6mls in that little thing! Looks pretty cool, kinda goofy cool but I like it! And like you said, for $17 plus being able to easily find coils since its a big name brand, sounds like a good place to start. Thanks for the review! And I hope you’re 100% back to your healthy self soon!

Thanks luv! It was such a great idea listing the eliquids that would mess with plastic, anyone looking for a starter wouldn’t know that type of info, so it’s really great you added that. Splendid job

Thank you everyone

@Chewy After reading your post another thing occurred to me, great way to experiment to find if your a MTL or DL vaper, how is a beginner supposed to know? I truly hope this or anything helps your Mum quite the cigs.

Now you got my blushing @Lolly…oh wait, you meant the Dolphin

I am recovering @VapeyMama , still can’t vape through which now I am going into nic withdrawals…brutal. The 6ml capacity surprised me too, when I first got it I started filling it before know how much it holds and thought…damn, thirsty bastard, I ran out of juice in my bottle before it filled up…lol. Thank you for the well wishes and I pray it misses you and your family.

Your welcome @Silhouette, I generally stay away from plastic tanks but with these pod systems are there any glass alternatives? I guess that would raise the price thus negating the great value, makes you hmmmm. Thank you for taking the time to check my review.

Another great review @mjag. I know you are spot on, because I bought one for the wife to try and get her off the devil’s spawn (Clearomizers), and she likes it a lot.

Great to hear it is working out for her :+1:

i got this for my mom and shes using the 1.2ohm coil , my question is how often do you have to het a new cartridge ??? or is it just the coils you have to change

The only reason you would have to get a new cartridge is if it is damaged, other than that just changing coils is all that is needed.

Would be nice to have extra cartridges if you like to change flavors throughout the day though

I bought my Wife one and she like it a lot! I bought her another one and an extra cartridge for each. Now she has 4 different flavors at once to change out.

thank you she is using the 1.2 ohm so i need to order some coils for her , shes digging this device , funny thing is shes the one who got me into vaping then she quit and started smoking again after…

i think later she will enjoy changing flaves but right now i want to make it as easy as possible to transfer so i know an owner of a vape shop and we are gonna go in and try a bunch of thi gs to figure out what she likes then ill make her some similar juices

Nice! It’s good she has you to help out.

thank you , i really need her around as much as possible , not only a good mother she is an outstanding grandmother and great friend

Great review man (read it on SP and totes forgot to comment on here…I’m so fucking rude) not my thang but it’s an interesting direction for devices, especially for beginners…perfectly done as always brother

Thank you brother, appreciate it :+1:

Nice review. Good pics

Thanks reds, I appreciate it bud

@mjag Liked your review when you first posted it, and my wife likes it so much (I just got her to cut the cord from clearomizers), just picked up a 2nd one and 2 packs of MTL coils. You review is as stated above, spot on. We’ve not experienced any plasticky taste, maybe because I rinsed out the tank ?? Keep the great, accurate reviews coming…
