Joyetech Batpack w/ ECO D16 (Quick Look)

Joyetech Batpack with ECO D16

The Rundown

The Batpack Kit is a decent kit based around consumer convenience. ECO Technology allows the Batpack to perform, utilizing a lower output to achieve a very mild, lower wattage vape style.
The Batpack was provided to me by Joyetech for the purpose of this review. This is just a quick look, as @cosmictruth has already done a spectacular job outlining the use of the Batpack.

The Look

The sleek metal body of the Batpack is actually very nice looking, the simple lined design is quite elegant for the model. My favorite aspect is the the magnetic battery door, which I think would be better utilized on some of the more elaborate 18650 mods that Joyetech puts out. The available color schemes are really quite beautiful, mine being the ‘Dazzling’ with a honeycomb design on the D16 Tank itself. The tank is the same design used on the eGO ECO AIO, as well as the 0.5ohm BFHN Heads.

The battery door is accessed via a small tab, just large enough to insert your fingernail to pry it open. It’s a pain, but gets easier. There is also a very slim indicator light on the top of the mod body that shows battery life. The firing button is an elongated version of what we have on the eGO ECO AIO, similar in design.

Functionality

As the Batpack uses ECO Technology, a constant 1.85V output, the max wattage of the Batpack is around 8 watts. I found it somewhat lacking in power, and the Eliquid more or less bubbling than actually being vaporized. I figure for someone just starting out, and being used to a very restrictive draw, the Batpack may be appealing.

Running on either Ni-MH or regular AA Batteries (such as alkaline) could be definetly appeal to someone looking for the convenience factor, although Ni-MH would still have to be charged, usually overnight. I agree that popping in to buy a pair of AA’s for a mod may be easier than a charge, but I have found that alkaline batteries offer a very short period of use in the Batpack, and die pretty quickly (150 puffs, or less). The provided Avatar Batteries (2000mah) last around 800 puffs at their peak, which takes a few charge cycles to get to.

The BFHN heads work well with 50/50 High Nicotine Eliquid, and have lasted a pretty good while before needing to be changed out. That is probably due to the lower output.

Amber’s Thoughts

So, I don’t quite know where to start. The Batpack is a decent device, with a very sleek body and style and the option to use different types of easy to buy batteries is a real innovation. It just seems Joyetech took a step backward with it to me. It just doesn’t have the output for an enjoyable vape. If it had been able to just push a few more watts, maybe 15, it would have improved the vape dramatically. I don’t think sacrificing performance for efficiency was a very productive strategy for the Batpack. The only other real problem I have is that the base of the mod is so narrow, it tips very easily. If you blow a feather near it, it will likely fall.

These are simply my opinions. The Batpack and D16 Tank will probably suit a whole load of people, I just think that the Exceed Edge provides a more consistent flavor and better performance than the Batpack. I’m all for innovation, and I think a mod that could use easily obtainable batteries is certainly innovative, I just wish it had the power and flavor to push that innovation to greatness.

I liked the idea of this mod, but I thought that it would had a weak output and short battery life. Thanks for your honest review, @Silhouette!

Great review and pictures!
wondering if some duct tape and wire and make a 500W AA battery mod, …NM bad idea
These new low power devices make just a little puff so high nic e-juice is a must, but the flavor is good! Tastes better than my Joyetech eGo-T i started with!

It just feel like the eGO ECO AIO gives more power, which it really doesn’t, as the wattage is actually lower, but they just feel so different. It’s almost hard to explain. I wish I could have liked it more.
