Juul Virginia tobacco clone

Blast from the past! Trying to replicate the Johnson Creek Tennessee Cured was the reason I got started in DIY 12 yrs ago. Never did find it. I’ve come to the conclusion there is no such thing as an ADV tobacco. Tastes change and evolve, and it’s too much fun searching for that perfect combo!

Great thread! Good luck to @HomeGrownBuddy in your search!

Truth! But, in the process of trying to clone my fave tobacco, I broadened my knowledge of many other tobacco flavor profiles. It was a journey enjoyed for many years.

Thank you! My flavours arrive Tuesday so I’m going to mix a few batches but I think I’ve narrowed down my search, it’s a floral oak flavour, with a nutty tobacco base, followed by a sweet exhale, so I’ll play around with it but I know I won’t get an exact match since juuls just raw chemicals

What percent of flavouring for tobacco would you all recommend to hover around for a low watt high ohm system? I’m thinking 2-3% total flavouring should be good but I’m unsure if it will be potent enough. Is that a good baseline to start at using a mix of flavorah and flavour art? Or should I up it to 5%

2 - 3% is perfect for just the tobacco’s. If you add other flavours to compliment then add them on top of the 2 - 3%. The average recommended for (Flv) tobacco’s is around 1%, so I’ll normally combine 3 at various percentages to create a complete blend. It normally adds to around 2.5% - 3%. I’ll then add complimentary flavours on top.
Check recommended percentage for each flavour because some (fa) tobacco’s like for example “Soho” is best around 5%.

That’s what I was thinking okay! I feel like soho will be a lot lighter so I may have to play around with it, I just want the bottle flavour to pop since the acetyl pyrazine is very finicky to get the right amount with. Juul uses such a small amount but the nutty flavour really pops in the juul pod so I’m going to have to test it at different levels

Well I have made my mix, I dropped the cured tobacco from my recipe for now, here’s a post of my mix for future reference, will take awhile to steep for this batch but I’m hoping it’s close, the soho is definitely a good add and I’m hoping the native tobacco isn’t too overpowering and adds that rose like flavour as well as the the soho for the nutty profile. I may need to increase the Oakwood but that’s easier to do once it steeps

I believe too the soho is the exact flavour that was “discontinued” from the one place that started me on the diy journey so that will be nice to make my own! I will do a day one test and then try and let it all steep for a few weeks before giving an honest opinion unless I notice it’s very off. Wish me luck :crossed_fingers: :four_leaf_clover:

Edit: I tried the soho, it’s the flavour that they replaced the discontinued pods with as an ejuice and o swear they mixed it at 10% or more because it’s gross! I knocked it down to 2% but it’s still too sweet. The other one was a golden tobacco flavour. Oddly enough the soho in the bottle is way lighter than the bottles they sell now which are a deep amber color so I’m assuming they add something else to it, either way it’s probably a no go on soho

I am new here also. Been mixing recipes about 3 months. I also have a pod device (several) including the Xlim. I have found that for Flavourart 4.5%-5.5% is good for my recipes. That being said there are some that are too strong for 5% - Perique Black solo for example. Generally I use a 1.0 or 1.2ohm at lowish wattage.

FWIW These days I am going very minimal to really get a feel for the flavors, and I am finding it revealing. I don’t make more than 10ml unless I have a sure thing recipe - very few of these so far. I have many 10ml bottles of both 20 mg salt nic and 18 mg freebase nic at 50% VG so it’s easy for me to simply pop off the cap and drop in flavors to test them solo or in minimal mixes. It’s worth noting that Flavorart concentrates can be vaped the next day IF there is only one flavor, it’s the mixing of many that requires steeping. For Flavorarts - which is the only brand I have used thus far - mixing more than 3 truly really needs a minimum 20 days if there are tobacco flavors.

Yeah okay makes sense, I’ve noticed that they do get better as they steep, so far o haven’t gotten close to juuls virginia tobacco, I’m having trouble matching the floral flavour top note, I’m almost debating ordering the actual chemicals to make the juice since it’s going to be a nightmare getting the exact flavour down, everything seems to taste very dry and a lot more subtle where as the juul pods are a punch of the floral flavour followed by the nutty and oak flavour, but the floral note nothing I’ve bought so far comes close which I think it’s juuls signature flavour that I need to nail down

Anyone have an idea what causes the floral note in juuls virginia tobacco? That’s the main flavour I’m missing. It’s almost like a rose flavour but obviously like any of the flavour it’s not a distinct rose flavour it’s almost like it’s in the family of roses

Last question, Flavorart - Liquid Amber, does anyone have any experience with this? I’m thinking it’s the one flavour I’ve been lacking tha I can’t quite get with regular tobaccos for its Beta-Damascenone which is a floral/stewed apple flavour from my research, I’ve seen the liquid amber incorporates oak and vanilla spice as well which may work more in my favour for a replica

Damascone: naturally occurring compound in tobacco leaves (especially Virginia).
It’s responsible for a floral honey, rose, and dried fruit top note. In higher concentration it smells like intense rosé or plum.
In trace amounts it adds subtle floral background without tasting like a distinct flower.
It’s actually added to some tobacco concentrates to achieve this flavour note (especially some inawera) so it’s a case of trying to find the correct concentrate they use in juul’s although I suppose you could add it your self but it would need to be a miniscule amount.
Also beta Ionone: provides violet like powdery floral scent often accompanied by rose notes in tobacco although I can’t see this one listed.

Okay I’m thinking if liquid amber has that compound in it I can keep it strictly DIY rather than ordering chemicals to keep things simple for anyone else looking to make it in the future, because that’s the main flavour I think it’s missing

So far this flavour has steeped a few days now and it’s actually kind of tasty, it has a good sweetness that’s not over bearing, and the flavours seem to blend well together, it could probably use an extra .1% Oakwood, and I’d add some hazelnut to broaden the nutty flavour that’s apparent in juul pods, as well as add a damascone flavour to bring forward that signature flavour I feel like I’m missing, I should receive the extra flavours tomorrow to make a brand new batch that accounts for the changes. I also have another blend that I’m waiting to steep to try out that lowers the VT slightly, triples the Oakwood, and replaces the vanilla bourbon with a brown sugar, however they are 2 days apart for steep time but the first one seems to have a better taste probably due to the vanilla rounding it off and the Oakwood not making the vape bitter. I will update on my recipes soon but I think I’m getting close

Good Morning All,
I was never a Juul user, but I wanted to send out my sincerest compliments on your research effort. I am truly impressed by not only the collaboration but the use of AI (again, I don’t use AI tools generally except when I do Google searches). I’ve only seen one other research effort (and I read the forums a lot!) that comes close:

It’s easy to see that both these efforts were deeply thought out, and I love to see efforts like this that contribute to the Community. Thank you all for all your work!

The community help has been amazing, such a great forum, I’ve never used a forum for anything but everyone has been amazing!

It’s hard to believe but this is what the internet used to be like 25 years ago. Social media really ruined everyone’s attitudes.
Glad you’ve found help and glad you found us. It’s interesting to watch you develop this recipe.

Yeah I was born mid 90s so I’m at that in between stage where I grew up with no tech and watched it get to where it’s at now. I feel like the 80s-90s people can still critically think on their own and use technology as an advantage but my generation and beyond are something else

As expected Canada post almost lost my package which should have been here Thursday but luckily it should finally arrive by tomorrow. So once I get home I will be testing out my new formula with liquid amber that I posted. I have deleted my other recipes so far since they are not anywhere close to the Virginia tobacco to the point I’m happy. However I think with the liquid amber it may be my missing DIY link without having to source raw ingredients and tobacco absolute since it’s unavailable in Canada and the tariffs on us from the US are tragic! But I will keep everyone who’s following updated! Pray for my mix :pray:t3:
