Sorry for the delay, like I said travelling.
The only concern I have is that 400 series stainless tends to rust (think about kitchen knives). While the rust tends to be limited and in my very limited macroscopic examinations rather tenacious I do have a general concern for all particulates that may enter our lungs when vaping.
your message really got me thinking during my travels about the dust I always found when combing my organic cotton. Iām really going to try and minimize the potential for particulate contamination of my vape from coil, to wick, to juice. I mean, I want all particles gone and none generated if possible.
given Ti as an option I donāt plan to Cape anything else. Yes, as a very expensive nanopowder you can light it on fire with a match. But as a wire it is its own fuse and Iāve seen no evidence it will consume itself when burning in a mod, even in unrealistically favorable conditions for fire.
so why Ti? I canāt taste the difference, but it is a pure metal not alloyed with high percentages of chromium, which everyone knows is bad, nor does it have nickel. As far as I know and posted previously the vapor pressure of chromium is not high enough at vaping temps to scare me much. 304 stainless, is generally considered food grade, although 316 has higher chrome content. Still, itās Ti for now out of an abundance of caution, but if kanthal performed way better, Iād consider going back.
Yes, I now remember you saying that. For that reason alone I would not use 430 then. It is my belief that Kanthal deposits metal taste in our juice, probably from the high amounts of iron in it. No need switching to a wire that would essentially do the same. At this time I do plan on sticking with Titanium as well but as I have time I will continue to study wire. I find it interesting and who knows, may come up with the next big thing lol.
Especially in TC mode. I rewicked my UWell Crown yesterday for the first time since setting it up and in TC mode the coil showed absolutely no evidence of heat. I think we can feel very safe in temp mode. I still wonder if there is a possible danger if you develop a short though. As you said as a wire it is itās own fuse. I imagine you are correct to assume it will not consume itself but I wonāt lie, I do have a picture of burning titanium not completely buried in my mind.
Donāt think Iāll ever go back myself. As @Pro_Vapes says, many people think kanthal is best but what it actually boils down to is just it was the first wire ever used and now has become the norm for most people. That may change, we shall seeā¦
Loving the 316L I got from Unkammanā¦what a pleasure to wind and build with!!!
Eff titanium for working with.
This was so much easier than even kanthal, Iām sold on the ease of use aloneā¦bring on the vapor!
Any day now, the slow boat from Fasttech will be arriving with my TC gear (tik tok, tik tokā¦twiddle, twiddle, yawn!!). Among other things, Iāve ordered an RX200, some grade 1 26awg Ti & some 24awg 304 ss. I went with the 304 because at the time I ordered (Iām not sure this hasnāt changed with the firmware updates since) the RX was set up for 304. in doing my homework on 304 I came across this https://vaporreporter.wordpress.com/tag/ss-304/ & thought Iād share it - nothin ground-breaking but may be interesting to someā¦
Zippo lighters leak fluid if not shaken dried when filled. That is the red spotā¦ lighter fluid Naptha. This is from a 40 year Zippo user. Donāt ride your Harley after filling it either! The rest of the club will get a good laugh from you dancing around on the side of the road trying to get your chaps off and your pants down! LOL The vibrations caused by the imbalanced Harley motor will literally shake the fluid out of your Zippo. A leather belt holster is the only way to carry a Zippo.
Iād look like a cowboy. Thanks for the info, learn something new everyday! I donāt use my zippo anymore, just mods.
You never know when you might need that Zippo. I donāt stab that many people but I still carry a knife wherever I go.
I have also experienced that metallic taste when I vaped nickel wire for the first time. I will never vape it again just because of the experience I had the first time I vaped on nickel wire.
I still have it, plus a few bottles of fluid and plenty of flint, just in case I want to burn a witch
I love it!
