Let's talk about "Blue Raspberry"

It’s criminal on a sticky blue raspberry thread that nobody posted the links for Noted which basically tackled it twice and you’ll learn a lot from some of the best mixers out there. Also check out developed, theflogvlog, and a show that’s no more but you’ll learn high level information and that’s mixlife.

Slushy mixes and flavors: https://youtu.be/pGzmA2zfXMY - River is on there so you know it’s good. I need to re-watch them again to pick up any information.

That is intriguing! Thanks for all the insight, I can see you’ve been working on this very thoroughly.

NF BlkRasp is killer as an add-in for zingy realness. It could very well take your best BluRaz attempt over the finish line. Try it from 0.2-0.5. Only a couple of bucks at diyvaporsupply.

I should have went there as it’s pretty much a one stop because I picked up a few things sitting in my mail box like Flavor Revolution - Electric Blue and Nicotine River - Blue Raspberry Taffy — both which I’m told are excellent.

I’ll put it on my list though, even though this is starting to get crazy but I pretty much have what I need now besides little gems like you posted.

I don’t want to get too involved as I don’t want to post any wrong facts as it was a while ago but basically from what I remember he was the one who started, or created the movement about how RF flavors fad like crazy (which is true) and it started a war to the point where he was getting personally attacked, and not just stupid internet trolling. He then stopped his channel which he was one of the very true OG’s of DIY youtube and left the scene.

RF use to be big too about 1 - 1 1/2 years ago and now nobody talks about them or uses them like they did in the past. The DIY scene is very loyal and passionate.

I have no fading issues and use them in almost everything. I never understood how that became a popular notion. I don’t doubt that people have honestly experienced the fade, I just never have. 6+ months and happy Strawberry mix. Not trying to bring that to a debate, just my personal experience. Thanks for the insight, again!

I needed to make sure I had facts instead of posting from memory. Here is the video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNIW3wyQSLI

The RF fading issue though I’ve known about from high lvl mixers years ago though, which is due to what ingredients they use in their flavors I believe. I never got into this whole internet drama, but at least there isn’t flame wars between Reddit/ELR/Underground forums – Thank God ATF is paid so no flame wars there, and the youtube community, even with money involved is really a true family, and I mean every single channel from DIYDownunder from AU, Thefogvlog from South America, Daytime Frank, Jennifier Jarvis, Fresh03 etc etc… and others who have to fight for hits while Wayne’s DIYORDIE gets all the traffic and outsources different shows. RIP Mixlife though, but check out some of their old shows as if you want to learn real top level advice watch some of the old shows.

I’d like to participate, but you’ll be using a ton of flavors I don’t use. All my flaves are PG-free, so I can’t participate in threads like that very effectively.

I get to find some under-the-radar gems, though, like the NF only very few mixers use. Some of them are stellar, just have to find the sweet-spot on them. If you find one that doesn’t taste right, it probably works below 0.5%. Some are great in the RFSC range, 1-3%

I have to say ditto too… All I use is flavorah, and I have several blue raspberry recipes already…

Awesome read that I’ve never seen. The last paragraph was great:

It’s uncertain why the flavor is so polarizing. Maybe it’s the synesthetic mindfuck of tasting electric blue compared to the placid purity of a bowl of fresh berries and cream, but maybe these don’t have to be at odds. Blue raspberry flavor isn’t trying to be a raspberry. There’s room in this crazy world for both.

I love that they say “Electric Blue” which Flavor Revolution makes but the other crazy blue which I use is HS Blueberry to the point where I don’t combo it with another blueberry anymore like FW or way back in the day trying forever to work the blueberry trinity.

LB/DYIFS 67% VG Blue Raz & Slush, RF & NicVapes Blue Raz IMO isn’t the answer. I know LB Blue Raspberry is the flavor of the month, just like Slush was, in big part due to Wayne’s youtube video but I’m not a fan of pain thinner. WF Sour Blue Raspberry got replaced by OOO’s Blue Raspberry Candy, although I do want to go back and work with the WF flavor once again.

People try to dance around blueberry & raspberry isn’t the answer but I think it is along with a sour and a coolant. Sour is needed (for the candy version) using WF Sour ball, FLV Sour apple or you can kill two birds with one stone using VT Sour Lemon adding citrus.

I try to use complex flavors to cut down on the amount as I think I had a mix of 9 flavors all from different companies, which at that point I knew I was 6 feet deep in the rabbit hole.

However, at the end of the day I accepted the fact that to make it 100% correct without truly sacrificing the integrity of the mix I had to have a DMT breakthrough moment and have an “ego death”. That means it’ll take a lot of flavors from many companies which some nobody has even heard of or hard to get along with knowing full well that when I put it up in ELR/ATF I’ll get 0 stars and probably 0 reviews because there is a possibility that 3% of the DIY community would even have all the flavors.

Outside of the box stuff, like even using a one shot: https://chefsflavours.co.uk/green-lush-concentrate/

EU Blue Raspberry - SC/FE Grape - INW Purple Blush - Flavor Revolution Electric Blue - Nicotine River’s Blue Raspberry and or Blue Raspberry Taffy - VT Boysenberry - VT Bilberry Ripe - FW Razzelberry - OOO Blue Raspberry Candy - WF Sour Ball Candy - HS Blueberry - And of course the famous MF Wild Raspberry.

A cluster F of random flavors from random companies but that’s just a small sample and all have to be in consideration because they are a cut above your typical blue raspberry recipe you see everyday.

I think if we work together we could come up with 3 unique versions that hopefully a few souls would like because everybody has a different idea in their heard of what blue raspberry is. One would be a light slushy jolly rancher type but not too sweet so it can be an ADV, a heavier jammy sweet mouth feel type version, and because I know that a lot of people won’t have or can’t get unique flavors a more complex blue raspberry in whatever direction.

But it’s all about the base. You start there and then start to layer until you get up to the top hitting accents which in a regular mix is easy but not with blue raspberry. On top of it we are working with fruits and not desserts which is child’s play.

I take it most of you guys use a raspberry/blueberry combo. I’m out apartment hunting today, but when I get setup I’ll jump in but if people want to throw out ideas and their experience with blue raspberry, linking good recipes, or any information from what combos work, or how we should start the base. Work blueberry and like flavors first, go straight to blueberry & raspberry off the bat. Work with some blue raspberry linked above as a primary etc…

You can’t stack 5 flavors at once, you really have to work one ingredient at a time. That way you’ll know when you add something and something’s off you don’t have to backtrack and it’ll be 10x more work.

Proper layering isn’t fun when you want to make a proper recipe because nobody has ever nailed a good recipe off the bat ever in the history of DIY. If you haven’t made different or I should say many iterations before you release your mix… well just look at 90% of the recipes here.

Wall of text/Short story over.

Just messing around with my new MB American Bubble Gum and playing around with different blue raspberry flavors. I won’t start hard-core again for another month or so. Just cross-posting here from the beta recipe thread:

Curious if anybody tried EU Blue Raspberry, Flavor Revolution Electric Blue, Nicotine River Blue Raspberry or Blue Raspberry Taffy, Sasami Blue Alien & Blue Raspberry - Loganberry, Decadent Vapor Blue Limey (I guess not in Heisenberg, which I’m vaping now for the first time in my life and can see working in a mix, low as it’s uniuqe to say the least), or Flavor Monks Raspberry? If so what did you think of any of them?

I need VG/PG so I’m going to pick up some Flavor Monks Raspberry which is a unique strong candy like that’s not your typical Malina, Shisha, FA, or MF Wild Raspberry which are the only ones to use. However, I’m going to finally start working on WF Boysenberry-Raspberry because from day one there’s been a lot of hype around it and it’s been sitting around for too long.

I really like I have used in combo with Real Flavours (2% euro 1% RF). I have DV Blue Limey but have not tested it yet (Heisenburg has DV Crystal Blue from DV in it).

The Euro and RF are both well worth picking up.

Yep, I just found out that it does, which I always thought since high ppl up in the food chain said it did, however in the clone thread in here and reddit said it didn’t, but I know it does.

I have EU Blue Raspberry and think it might be top of the food chain when it comes to a “blue raspberry” named flavor, with maybe Flavor Revolution Electric Blue being 2nd. I need to give Nicotine River blue raspberry more of a chance but it seems those are top of the food chain.

I never wanted to use a “blue rasberry” flavor but work from the ground up, however I can see EU working in, along with OOO Blue Raspberry Candy too.

I do need to put down this Heisenberg and let “green with envy” and “red astaire” just steep as this is my first time getting one shots with all pretty much the same typical EU profile that I’m familiar with, otherwise I’m going to go back to my absinthe/berry/mint profile non-stop like I always do between breaks after I get burnt out like a mad man like I’m currently doing with grapes.

I never ate or tasted a blue raspberry so I don’t know what to look for. Flavormonks Raspberry is a strong tasting raspberry hard candy which I like a lot. Not many strong tasting raspberries around so this was a pleasant surprise to me whan I tested them.

It was originally just artificial Raspberry flavor with Blue #1 added because there were too many red flavors out there.

I have a hunch that some flavor companies have changed it since then, because nobody buying flavor concentrates wants a blue one, so they add Blueberry and some extra Sour/Tart/Sweet aspects to it , or something like that.

But I have read a couple of articles where the authors dug way back and found just Raspberry and coloring. I think i posted a link in this thread somewhere.

RF describes theirs:
Introducing a bright-colored classic we’ve all known and loved in candies and cold drinks since childhood. Did you ever wonder how they came up with BLUE raspberries? Now you know. Taste the mix of fresh blueberry and raspberry in this tangy, terrific flavor. No wonder it’s a favorite.

Blue Raspberry is the most subjective thing. There’s a good article above on it, and I guess it’s technically a rare plant also, however every single person in their head has a different idea of what blue raspberry tastes like and then you throw in taste buds and it becomes a cluster but nobody has really tackled it head on doing something unique and not your cookie cutter crap that is posted every single day. The last person who really went for it was Apex’s Blue Frost which is now over 2 years old, and about the time I started my version as I wasn’t a big fan of the few ingredients and then I went head first into the rabbit hole: https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/54784#blue_frost_revisited_by_apexified

He put One Stops Blue Raspberry Slush on the map which has now fell off and LB Blue Raspberry is the new flavor of the month thanks to Wayne’s youtube video, however there is no way in hell I’d put either one of them in ever and of course I tried, more with slush instread of LB’s paint thinner.

In the US and I’m sure other places everything is artificial, especially products for kids. So your child hood memories of a grape or strawberry icie, popsical, or 90% of sugar candy like Jolly Rancher all for example tastes 100% nothing like the actual f0ruit. It’s basically the greedy corperate system hooking kids on sugar cereal to whatever with TV ads and most of us grew up with a warped sense of what should taste like and dumped a pound of CAP Super Sweet on all of the food. If you try to cut out all the crap and eat 100% healthy it sucks because we go through the same withdrawl ironically just like we do in DIY because we’re so used to commerical juice. That’s why I like to not use sweetener as a crutch and would rather use an ingredient to fill the void instead, otherwise the recipe isn’t 100% perfect, although obviously there are exceptions to every rule.

What I’m going for is a 7-11 type of blue raspberry, but not too sweet at all though so it can be an ADV. Too many years ago they had a red and a blue cold ass slushy machine, which of course you mixed both up. Before that was icies which was a frozen little plastic stick that had a good blue raz.

It’s a blueberry forward for sure, not realistic, and a cross kind of a good rasperry and blueberry with other magic happening in the background.

I’m going to make 3 different versions to hopefully fufill a niche for different people because it is crazy subjective and you can’t really clone it either because no Company has made a good one either. Northland Vapor, besides the paint fumes you have to air out for a week with the cap open kind of has the right idea but flawed. It’ll take many flavors from many companies unlike the million posted now and every day with the same old stuff and nobody has really pushed it that hard like trying to clone “Heisenberg, which btw could be in play for Blue Raz too” but drop your ego 100% and not settle for anything but a final product which I’m 2+ years in now, 200+ iterations easy which is nothing because it could be 200,000 with the different combos possible.

Now I have Flavor Monks Raspberry and also maybe the best Blackberry coming in, so this never ever stops, but in the last 2+ years I’ve made massive strides. Raspberry has always been the true weak point because you know if MF Wild Raspberry can’t do it at $20+ a pop you’ll end up doing combos like I did for both blueberry and raspberry, although currently I’m content with just HS blueberry right now.

Long story short I’ll dump all the info I have and then as a community, try to either come to some sort of agreement on what direction to go in, or the main thing is just advice and other people to do more iterations because I have to take long ass many month breaks because I get burnt out, so I figured I’d see if there was any interest, like the “heisenberg” clone thread on here and reddit but ages ago A.D.V made an awesome running thread asking for help which gave me the idea: https://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/1746990/HELP!%20naked%20100’s%20very%20cool%20clone

Quick update-- Trying this at 4 months steep, had about 10ml left in the 50ml bottle and it is super tasty. full range of sweetnes and bling. It came together at 1 month, but I was on to different things. I was expecting it to be bland and faded. Nope!

Sounds delicious! Just started mixing again yesterday. Sadly I think this is going to have to be done the hard way by testing each flavor extensively at different percentages with sweetener (TFA). I have made over 100 batches in the past and almost all of them have been terrible and bland. Starting with blue raspberry and peach this week. Also since RF is shutting down, I wouldn’t be able to consistently make that recipe so I am starting with Nicotine River and Liquid Barn blue raspberry with INW and TFA peach.

If it’s been a long hiatus from mixing your taste perceptions have probably changed anyway.
