Mentor Group (JoJo messed it up again...now its Forum-Founder and it's staying that way.)

Holy friggin moly. I’m so disappointed in so many people right now. Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine something so benign as a badge on an internet forum would cause so much butthurt. I mean really, could there possibly be a more painful example of immaturity as what’s on display here? The snide, snarky comments from folks I would have never dreamed they would come from is just disgusting to me.

I hear ya, yer one of them old timers too.

We still havent even had a chance to consider added more folks. When we set it up originally as veteranmixers there were a lot more names on the list, we changed it because of the name and we didnt want folks to be upset for not being included right away, you see how that worked out, hehe.

Now that we have switched back to the original plan then original list can be considered again sans those who care not for it but with the ability to add more and more people as time goes on.

There is also the option to click and leave the group as well for anyone who does not want the badge or be in the group. etc. :+1:

I’m personally not fussed about having a badge, I think it should be for a certain criteria, joined on (date) or been a part of the community for x number of years with major input, maybe base it off some stat in the profile or something, if we all have one it becomes obsolete.

Edit: I’m all for showing dedicated forum members love, after all they are the ones who keep things moving right?

Besides, when you have one of these, a badge is nothing

@SthrnMixer I think I may have missed something in the thread? I read through all the responses to the original post. I thought the general idea was to have a open discussion about this recent change? I have seen only some differing opinions on the subject. I have not seen any “butthurt”, anyone “acting immature” or making “snide &/or snarky” comments. I am not sure why you would be disgusted by any of the members replying to this thread?

I just call it like I see it. I can’t speak for your interpretations, just my own.

Well, more like a select group of veterans who contributed, but no not all. By no means am I taking away from those who are now ‘badged’… but as being new, I see the other side of things too. It was selective at best.

So many here offer encouragement, others I feel do not contribute to that and might even have an adverse effect. I thought this forum was very different partly because of the nice discussions that were not all mixing related but vaping in general. I don’t really see the need to have mixing pro in the criteria, since its all based on ones tastes anyway. Detailed reviews are much more helpful to us in this sense.

yes things quickly got out of hand, I think we all know this, and it’s a shame. I do not think butt hurt had any part in the mix though.

Input was asked for, given, and response of some definitely got out of hand. I do think though that for the most part people were heard, and that was important.

I never mind change… its how things grow stronger and better… But that doesnt me all change is good, or that all will work. All sides should be heard because all sides make up this great forum. I would hate to see a change for the worse or one that would make us one of those other forums I stopped in on briefly and left.

I want to be clear. I have made a lot of posts here antagonizing the staff and lamenting the new direction. This was before the clarification that the new group is a shout out to some deserving members for their positive role here, and not actually separating the community. I apologize for the quick reaction, but I was in real fear that the forum was fundamentally changing, in a bad way. Happily, it is not.

I now understand the intent of the group and am fully supportive, for the record. Apologies for adding to the hysteria.

And, the badge looks like a turkey or an old time movie camera until you look closer! :sunglasses:

Not that my 2 cents matter much, but I have to agree with a few here.

I am fully on the same page with Pugs, Skull and probably a few others. These badging systems are very divisive and I honestly do not see how this makes a positive impression on new users. If you have a simple page listing the admins, moderators etc, that should be more than enough for new people to go with questions or whatever that do not fit in the regular forum posts.

People that are mentors or moderators here are generally people that can be found in as good as any thread on the forum so it’s not like new users really need to reach out far for help or mentoring, whatever is meant by that.

If it is already too much asked that some people who have these badges, can’t even recall the general site FAQ and stick to the rules, it’s only a recipe for things getting worse for new people (and that is one recipe this site doesn’t need).
