Personally I only froth once, right after mixing, give it a hot water bath for a couple hours, let go back to room temp. Then I just shake and sample each day after.
Sounds good manā¦I will try that, I really really hope that is the ticketā¦
Thank You.
Iāve never allowed a juice to sit open for more than a couple of hours. So, I could not say whether or not letting it sit open for days will decrease the over all flavor. I froth my mixes 4 or 5 times during a hot rice bath and then pour into glass bottles. This process, for me, markedly makes a difference in the steep time. In two or three days the flavor seems to be right; more shelf time after initial mixing always helps any ejuice. Perhaps do an experiment with the same mix, but in 10 ml batches. Mix one the way you did the first batch and then mix one with frothing to blend only, cap it immediately and let it sit. Hopefully, there will be a difference in the flavor between the two mixes after this experiment.
Jimk,
That is a really good idea, can you explain the warm rice bath thing to me.
Are you using a crock pot or something like that to control the heatā¦?
People use many methods to warm their mixes before, during and after mixing. I find it way less complicated to use microwaved white rice to warm my mixes. I use a small square or rectangular glass pyrex baking dish, put enough dry white rice to give me a 3" depth of rice, microwave the rice until it gets very warm (usually 90 to 120 seconds for a large dish and 60 seconds for a small dish. Then I place/push my beakers of freshly mixed juice down into the warm rice, let it sit for a minute or two, then froth the crap out of it 4 or 5 times. I let the mix settle out between frothing sessions, reheating the rice (without the juice in the container!) if needed to keep the mix very liquified.
Over heating the mix for a long period of time (crock pot), in my opinion, is not a good idea. You can dull flavor and lose nicotine content. Iāve found this to be true, due to my own experimentation; others may say different.
That sounds pretty simpleā¦ Thank you for the details.
I have read a lot of your posts and it seems to me that you are very knowableā¦ I trust your methods
I will mix and try itā¦
I look at it like this. There are many ways to cook an egg in a skillet. With a bit of experimentation, you finally find the way to cook that egg so it is most pleasing to you. Itās the same way with mixing ejuice. I destroyed a few batches before I found the way that works for me. You will too.
This is very true, thank you for all the great infoā¦
Wow! Jimk! Some great advice that I can easily incorporate with my next batches. Really like the rice routine. Will be trying this in the future.
On a side noteā¦ Iāve been getting my flavors from TFA and WL in the future due to the better prices. But, these liquids come in clear bottles and my vanillas are yellowing. Should they be kept in the dark or transferred to blue or amber bottles? Which is ideal?
Some natural oxidation is going to take place due to the introduction of air and light to flavors and nicotine, however, storing these in a cool dark place is ideal; even better to store in dark colored bottles, if one can.
I also want to add that I too only let my mix sit open for those first couple hours while in their bath, and sometimes itās less time, once the froth disappears I usually put a top on them. And I say a hot bath but really is just warm, and I use water instead of the rice method because I heard that both pg and vg can developed a āskinā from drying out and that it is good to expose them to moisture. Do you know anything about that?
Iāve never heard or read anything concerning a skin or film developing on pg/vg due to exposure to air, but Iāve never left my mixes open to the elements for too long. Sounds logical though!
VG can ādry outā if you store it long, so itās important to ākeep it activeā by rehydrating it. Do this by adding some distilled water - a few drops is usually all it takes to rehydrate it. If it doesnāt rehydrate, itās essentially expired.
What is a good length of time to let it sit in the bathā¦?
And the approximate tempā¦?
30 to 45 minutes, Iād say. Temp wise, if the rice is too hot to keep your finger buried in it for 5 or so seconds, let it cool down a bit and then push the mix down into the rice. After a couple of minutes of warming up, froth away! Repeatedly!
Coolā¦
Thanks againā¦
So all you frothing peopleā¦what kind do you have? How is it holding up considering the thickness of e-liquid? Guess one of these guys and some flasks are going on my wish list now, thank you very muchā¦
It makes the job a lot easier for me
You can find them super cheap on Amazon. The last time I purchased frothers, I found a deal for $14 for a 3 pack. Since I mix up 3 or so batches of different flavored juices at a time, itās nice to have more than one frother to go around.
