My pear's got a prickle

I love pear… but I find that no matter what percentage I use it, it prickles - you know…raspy on the throat. I’ve got 1 recipe where I’ve used pear at 5%- If i spend the morning on that, my throat is killing me for the rest of the day! Has anyone else experienced this with pear?
At first I thought it might’ve been a bit of PG allergy, but I mix at 70vg/30pg - not that high I would’ve thought. Also, this ONLY happens with recipes that include pear.
Is this a situation where you’d use vape wizard or smooth?
I dont know if its the brand (Inawera) coz its the only one I’ve used. If not INW, who makes the best pear IYO?- I’ll get some!

I don’t have INW pear but it wouldn’t hurt to try a different vendor. Pear FA is quite popular I do like it over TFA’s that for sure. I would say IF you were to use an additive smooth would be the one I’d choose. Vape wizard is generally used if a fruit in the acid/ base reduction ( unless you feel this is more fitting. ) I myself am unfamiliar with that pear could be highly acidic for all I know. Smooth is tricky thou 1 drop per 10 Mls and sometimes it zilches all the lil back notes if you had lighter flavors in the mix.

Thanks for that @Amy2! .
TPA says this… ““Smooth” will round out any harsh edges and provide a thick, satisfying mouthfeel. It will soften the high notes of your blend while boosting your background notes.” Yep, In other words… zilch everything.
But, could it be said that what I’ve experienced are “harsh edges”?? …certainly seems like that …or, do they mean “harsh edges” as in more of a taste sense than an actual physical scratchy sense?

that pear could be highly acidic
[/quote]It doesnt seem acidic… its actually very tasty - seems to me to be a good likeness of pear.
But I’ll certainly give the FA pear a go. I’ll get some smooth at the same time & have a play.
Thanks again for your advise Amy.

I have INW Pear and i don’t use it more than 3% its pretty concentrated and on a personnal like i add some sweetener just a tad when i mix with it. My two cents.

I have a lot of pears and I kind of know what you mean. I only use inw 1-3% and more the lower end of that than the higher. You should really try FA pear, this may help, for I find it to be a more juicy pear with a mild pear flavor than the strong, sometimes candy, pear you get with most others.
I like to even use it at lower ends of .8-1.2% to add just the juiciness to some mixes, like their Fuji is good for. I wouldn’t say I would use the FA as a stand alone pear though but you can always add a few drops of inw or whos ever
Careful with smooth though it will mute your mix and more so over time…if anything start with a marshmallow or something as an alternative if you have this issue

Thankyou @Ohm_IGod & @DarthVapor for your insights.
Yeah, 5% is pretty excessive isnt it? But, I still get the scratch at 1.5%.
So, FA pear on the way!
Darth, If I use the INW at 1.5%, what %age of the FA would equal that?

Inw pear is pretty strong on the pear where FA is strong on the juiciness and weak on the pear so it is hard to come to an “equal” which you will see when you get it BUT if I was using it together in a strong pear mix, say, a honey peary, I would start at 3-5% on the FA and .8-1.5 on the INW. For kicks you can throw in some Fuji at .8-1%
Personally I rarely go over 3.5 on the FA. I made a Pear juice once with a bunch of other types of pear and I went as high as 4.5%…if you are looking for a strong POP of a pear flavor FA isn’t it but for me it is the closest to biting into a over ripe pear

So in a nut shell if you use FA in a fruit mix for a juiciness enhancer, I recommend around 1%.
Using it in a fruit mix where you want a little pear flavor around 3%
Using it in a strong pear juice with other pears 4-5% or personal taste of course

This is all my use of it and I am by no means saying this is “rule” I just like using it around those %s
