Hey everyone,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but recently I’ve been given a great opportunity thanks to u/isuamadog and @FLV_DIY, and it’s definitely worth a post. I’ve purposely stayed away from the forum as to not read @SessionDrummer’s posts or anything related to this release. And boy am I glad to be back!
I received 11 new Flavorah flavors for the purpose of testing them and writing a review. So I mixed up 11 solo testers at various percentages suggested to me by Flavorah. The fruit fruit flavors and tobacco were tested at 2%, the mints at 1%, and the menthol and cucumber at 0.3% (although 0.5% was a recommended starting point). Full disclosure, I am not the biggest fan of STRONG coolants, but can occasionally really enjoy ones that are softer. Luckily for you guys who like cool vapes this release had 5 “cool” flavors. How cool exactly will be disclosed below.
All flavors are tested on a Hadaly RDA, with a 0.4ohm 3x28/40 ss316l coil at 40w. Fresh cotton, a dry burn, and a rinse of the RDA were done between every test.
My reviews will be on a 1-10 scale, with my scoring heavily relying on:
a) how close does the flavor match the description
and
b) how good the flavor is solo
Of course, taste is subjective, so take the reviews with a grain of salt, but in all honesty I will try to be as objective as possible in my testing. I’ll try my best to review the flavors for what they are labeled as. Also, flavor strength, body, sweetness levels, and notes present (at least to my palate) will all be present in my reviews.
Nat. Mint - 1% (5 day steep) - This is one cold spearmint! I tested this one right after Garden Mint, and was expecting something similar, but this is a much stronger flavor and much stronger cooling than the aforementioned G.M. The sweetness level is definitely on the lower end, but is definitely present. This one, in the best of ways, reminds me of really good mint toothpaste. You know, that freshness that coats your mouth and tongue after brushing your teeth. It’s a VERY STRONG flavor! I only went 1% solo because this was suggested to me by the folks over at Flavorah, but in my opinion, 0.5% solo would be perfect. At 1% it’s a bit too cold for me, but take that with a grain of salt. Cold vapes aren’t MY thing, but they may be yours. If so, you’re in luck because this is a fantastic flavor. As a Natural Mint, I have to grade this as a 9.5/10 because it seems to me that the cooling is a bit too strong to be labeled as natural. Again it could just be ME and MY tastebuds. This is a really good solo flavor, so if you like a cold natural mint, check this one out for sure!
Garden Mint - 1% (5 day steep) - Out of the bottle this smells just like muddled mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail mixer. It tastes the same. Very natural mint flavor with minimal cooling and little sweetness. Smooth, big clouds, and quite an enjoyable solo vape. The mint flavor is way stronger than the cooling sensation, so perhaps in mixes this can be used even higher than 1%, depending on your application. If you’re looking for a super cool mint, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for a well balanced natural mint flavor, this one is definitely worth taking a look at. I really like this one, and it perfectly represents the name on the bottle. 10/10! If you love minty flavors, you NEED to get this.
Coolcumber - 0.3% (2 week steep) - CAREFUL! This is one potent cucumber! I love this. It’s great, even though it has coolant. A warm cucumber just doesn’t work for me. The flavor that comes through for me is mainly cucumber flesh, followed a little bit of cucumber skin. On the tail end as a solo flavor, the flavor of menthol also comes through at 0.3%. I personally wouldn’t use this above 0.5%. As a solo flavor, 0.3% was perfect for me. In a mix, anywhere from 0.3-0.5% works depending on what you’re going for. Quoting @SessionDrummer, RELEASE THE KRAKEN! This one, as a cold cucumber gets a 10/10. I couldn’t find a single thing to nitpick.
Menthol Mist - 0.3% (5 day steep) - Oh my menthol! This is great, and full disclosure, I am not a fan of cold vapes. Nor was I a fan of menthol cigs back when I smoked. Now with that out of the way, this is a bang on menthol flavor. It’s cold, but not WS-23 cold. It’s not overwhelming by any means. This is not a sweet flavor at all. At 0.5%, I am getting a very clean menthol flavor and some cooling on the inhale. The exhale is also cool, but the majority of the cool hits on the draw. Having only TPA menthol to compare this with, this blows the TPA away. If I ever need a menthol in future mixes, this will definitely be the one I will reach for. I have to go high with this, as a menthol mist is exactly what I’m getting. For the menthol heads, put this on your shortlist. Menthol Mist is a menthol must! 9.9/10!
Fruit Fusion - 2% (2 week steep) - Well this is a grape. There might be some other fruits in the background, but my palate can’t figure them out. There’s also a good helping of coolant, but it is in no way overpowering, but if used above 2%, the cooling may possibly overpower the flavor. I haven’t tried this myself, as 2% was enough flavor and just enough cooling for my taste. If you like COLD flavors, this one should be on your short list. The grape is really tasty, and the cooling is just right. As a cold grape, I’d have given this a 10, but as there are some indiscernible fruits in this fusion that I can’t taste, I’ll have to settle on 8.5/10. I may be biased, as I don’t prefer flavors with cooling. Your results may vary.
Mangotang - 2% (SNV+5 day steep) - this one is AMAZING. For ME, the cooling is a bit too strong, but the flavor is as good a mango as one can hope for. It’s ripe, but not too ripe, juicy, and fully orange. I’m not getting any green notes or skin. It’s fairly sweet, yet a drop or two of sweetener wouldn’t hurt. At 2% the saturation level is perfect. As a solo flavor, this exactly represents flavorah’s flavor notes, so as a chilled mango, this is easily a 9.7/10. I really like this flavor, and hope that I can tame the cooling down a bit when using it in a mix. The markdown was just because it was too cold for me at the tested percentage.
Rainbow Sherbet - 2% - (3-4 week steep) This flavor I found very tough to understand until about 3 weeks after it was mixed. I never really got rainbow sherbet from it, but more like a mixed “fruit” medley which kind of presented itself as a sherbet, but only after a steep. It wasn’t exactly the rainbow sherbet that i grew up with, but the base of it was there. Perhaps this needed a boost in percentage, but unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the flavor enough to remix and test it again. As an actual Rainbow Sherbet, I can’t really go too high. I’m thinking somewhere around 6.5/10 because the potential is definitely there to turn this into a banging sherbet mix. But unfortunately as a solo flavor this just doesn’t do it for me, hence the lower rating.
Lemon Lime Soda - 2% - (7 day steep) Smells like Sprite or something similar right out of the bottle. At 2% I found the flavor quite nice, but not as a solo. I believe this would perform better as a mixer. It’s very basey, so it would be great as a base for whatever drink mixes you’re going for. Possibly if pushed higher this can make a good solo flavor, but I haven’t tried. I noted that 2% is enough as a base for mixes. I tried it at 2.5% as a base paired together with Coolcumber, Fresh Watermelon, and Garden Mint, and the result was as good as expected, but I digress. It’s mid level sweet, and extra sweetener definitely helps sway this into the actual lemon lime soda realm. There’s a bit of fizzy action going on (solo), but in my experience that was lost in a mix. As it stands, as a solo flavor, I would have to rate this 8/10, as it leaves some things to be desired. But I’m sure from experience that this one mixes really well. But don’t just take my word for it. If you’re looking for a new lemon lime soda flavor, pick this up and see for yourself.
Fresh Watermelon 2% (2 week+ steep) - fresh watermelon taste. Not at all like florals, soap, or perfumes. I’m getting a clean watermelon, no rind, and no seeds. Unfortunately I find it a bit scratchy on the throat, as I do with many other watermelons, but this one is a lot less irritating, and can definitely be worked with. I see a couple of drops of INW Cactus being an absolute staple in mixes containing this. It’s not particularly juicy, but not drying either. Yet another small problem that can be fixed by a drop of Cactus or Cucumber. This is a good watermelon. I’ll definitely be using this in mixes in the future. As it stands, I’d rate this as a 9.5/10, with the minor take-off for the little bit of harshness and the lack of true watermelon wetness. Easily correctable, so -0.5 seemed sufficient.
Red Grapefruit - 2% (5 day steep) - Out of the bottle this IS unmistakably red grapefruit. When vaping, I’m getting a grapefruit for sure, but I’m not very sure that it’s red. It is good though. Definitely on the lower end of the sweetness scale, so it can greatly benefit from some extra sweetener. It’s quite smooth and not at all throaty like some other citrus flavors can be. The ceiling has not been reached at 2%, so you will be able to push this at least another % higher to achieve full saturation. I’m going to have to go 9/10 just because I don’t get the redness I was expecting from a ruby red flavor. Other than that, this is a good grapefruit.
Ligero Leaf - 1% (3 week steep) - First and foremost, let me begin with saying that I am a HUGE fan of Flavorah tobacco flavors. With that being said, let’s start the review. A ligero leaf is a tobacco leaf harvested from the top of the tobacco plant. It is said to be the strongest flavored of the three primary filler leaf types.
Out of the bottle, this smells absolutely fantastic. As a solo flavor, I find this one to be incredible. I can’t really tell you what notes are found within, as I’m not an experienced tobacco flavors reviewer. This IS my first ever tobacco review, despite owning almost every tobacco flavor from FLV. To me, this is a bold, full flavored tobacco. It has a bit of bite, but not what I’d call a throat hit. I find it extremely smooth, but it does have a certain characteristic if I chain vape it. It’s as if it’s a bit spicy. Not like chili, per say, but more like what a good Virginia tobacco does to your tongue. Except with Ligero Leaf it’s not on your tongue, but more in the back of the throat. Sweetness level is medium, but a single drop of sweetener into a 10ml turns this into a full blown dessert tobacco. Personally, I’d leave the sweetener out, but maybe that’s just me. At 1% the flavor is plenty full and saturated. I can (and do) ADV this solo. In my opinion, this flavor is the epitome of tobacco flavors. So much so that I thought it was a NET (naturally extracted tobacco), but then I asked, and Bryson informed me that it is not a NET, and that FLV doesn’t make any NETs. Either way, it’s fantastic. If you love tobacco flavors, you WILL love this one. I honestly have to crank this one up to 11/10. As tobaccos go, this one, in my opinion, is as good as it gets without being a NET.
