Former smoker, turned vaper, first devices being a disposable off stamp, then other various disposables. That got expensive, so moved to XROS 4, then 5 pod system. Blowing through juice like mad (i use freebase 70/30 with it because the salts are WAY too potent for me).
So I decided to start making my own juices. I sourced 50/50 24mg/ml nicbase, blue raspberry and cotton candy from Delosi. I really wanted a 70/30ish freebase, so figured I’d simply add more VG (from amazon) to dilute the nic make a 60/40
After much more reading, i think I’m maybe way overpowered on the nicbase?
I feel like an idiot, this shouldn’t be this hard unless theres something i’m not getting right.
Here’s what i did.
In a 30ml bottle, i used 20ml nicbase, so thats 10 vg/10 pg, then added 10 more vg, which should make it a 60/40 mix right?
Then I added 1 drop of flavoring because I didn’t have a scale yet and it said 1 drop per ounce on the flavor bottle. And I figured you can always add more, if needed.
Steeped it 2 days, it lacked flavor, so added 1 ml (by then my syringe and scale had arrived) cotton candy. Steeped 2 more days and while the flavor was totally acceptable, the harsh throat hit was most unwelcome. Enough so to turn my concoction bottle into a desk ornament, reminding me of failure at every glimpse…
Is there some way to fix this?
Sorry for the book, I’m just a really stupid newbie who cant afford to simply buy my favorite e-liquids anymore. (Plus, i have a bottle of licorice flavor and i think black licorice jelly bean would be a spectacular flavor, and I’ve never seen that one on a store shelf.)
I’m working on getting a dead rabbit 4 rda for home use and flavor testing, but currently I love the portability of my XROS 5 pod even though i have to carry a bottle of juice everywhere I go (chain-vaper).
I’m trying to understand. So did the completed juice have 24mg/ml freebase nicotine? If so then that’s why it’s harsh. Freebase should never go above 6mg/ml.
I use salt nicotine because it’s smoother and has less taste and because the nicotine hits your bloodstream faster. My juices typically have 7mg/ml.
Maybe you could post your recipe and we can dissect it and see if we can better help you.
That’s crazy to me.
Actually now I’m curious. It seems 95+% of user’s recipes use freebase and not salt nic. What’s the benefits of freebase over salt?
IMO, Nic salt e-liquids are not safe for sub-ohm devices because they are designed for low-power devices like pod systems with standard (or high-ohm) coils that have a resistance of 1.0 Ω or higher.
One of the compounds used to create salt nics is benzoate acid… Uses at low tempratures this is fine but at sub ohm levels can release benzine and that would not be good for you…
When I first got off black market disposables I was using 20mg Freebase. I was puffing all day long and still felt mild nicotine withdrawals. My throat also felt like a thousand razors blades scratching it after a few days of that.
Then I actually did some reading on vapes and discovered I’d probably been blasting 30+mg salts in those dodgy dispos. I switched to 20mg salts and felt MUCH better straight away.
Slowly working my way down, at 17mg salt now.
Thanks for your reply Mike.
I didn’t have a “recipe”, since I thought I was a doing a simple flavor.
The nic is Delosi’s 50vg/50pg 24mg/ml nicbase. I like strong flavors and salts don’t do well in my sub ohm vape.
Am I mistaken thinking I can just put 20 ml of that in a 30 ml bottle, add 10 mg of VG (and a few drops of flavor if I want it flavored) and thus create a 60/40 r-juice?
Or am I supposed to make a pure 60/40 (actually I’d prefer 70/30), and add the nicbase to that? In which case how do I figure out how much nicbase to add?
I’m feeling pretty stupid.
I got delayed on this venture shortly after my first post because my AC went out (I’m in Texas, where the “feels like” is in the triple digits Fahrenheit, so AC took priority.) That was a huge hit on my e-juice experiment budget. I still need to source some PG (there are so many out there, I just hope none are “bad”).
I appreciate your willingness to help a newbie out. Thanks!
Hi Rocky02852
I’ve been content with store bought freebase juices at 6mg.
I have also seen some of the disposables I’ve used were anywhere from 25-50, but I have to go super light on them or I get wonky/nausea/ill feeling. Dont like that feeling at all. But they never felt like sandpaper in my throat the way my mix did.
You need to input these amounts into “create recipe” for a 70/30 mix using 50/50, 24 mg/mil nice base.
Add amount you making in top row and how strong you want your nicotine. I’ve inputed 6 mg/mil on the above.
Then you just input your flavours and it will tell you exact amounts of nice, Pg and VG to add.
When you buy your Pg get, USP/ep that’s pharmaceutical grade, non gmo (if possible) and it will have a high purity level.
