When developing recipes for pod devices, how do you guys test the juices?
For instance… with freebase recipes I have a 70/30 ratio, 3mg Nicotine and test in a dripper on a mod at 70w (for instance).
Nic salt recipes for pods my ratio is 50/50, 25-50mg nic salts. I currently test them on pod devices like the Xros pro or mini, Q2 luxe or Caliburn Tenet. I don’t want to have to buy an army of pods to test each recipe.
Is there a way to safely use a dripper on a mod to test the juice when they have such high nic content?
I currently use a Steam Crave Mini Robot in mtl format to test pod recipes with a high ohm single wire coil (.8-1.0) can be used at very low wattage (typically from to 12-15watt).
I also don’t like to waste premade coils testing salt or mtl recipes on a pod.
I’ve used a Boomstick Reaper MTL RDA that works pretty good for this purpose. It’s a tiny RDA with a very tight build deck. I’ll vape it around 15 - 20w and only take a couple of hits to test the flavor out. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Reaper has been available for some time.
I also don’t typically add nic to a recipe until I have the flavor where I want it. And for salt nic pod recipes I tend to reach for higher total %s above 25% for maximum saturation. I have found that RDA’s seem to have way to much airflow compared to a pod running a high concentration of nic salt.
@SkinnyboyDre I use a Holic MTL RDA at 15-25 watts. Back in the day most RDAs were MTL unless you drilled them out. We would run higher ohm coils like 1.8 ohms. Ive got a bunch of those somewhere around here.
Thanks all for the info. I have a few RDAs and devices that I may or may not be able to use for this purpose :
Hellvape Hellbeast
Digiflavour Drop
Hellvape Dead Rabbit v3 RDA
As for devices, I have
Geekvape Eagis L200
Dovpo MVV (potentiometer)
Dovpo MVP (Digital)
Dovpo Odin V2
Lost vape Thelema Quest
Vandy Vape Gaur-21
These are all high wattage dual battery mods. I’ll see if any one of them has a MTL function. I have a friend that makes coils that said he would make me a 0.8ohm coil for one of the RDAs and then try that on low wattage.
I use dedicated MTL RDAs for testing, such as the Berserker, and a Hellvape (can’t remember the name). They’re all 22mm small chamber, not some dual coil beast no matter what you do with the airflow.
There is no MTL function on any mod, but you can lower your wattage down to lower double digits.
You’re probably right. I do seem to remember one of my devices having an MTL function. May be on that I’ve since given away.
I will play around with the airflow and settings on the different devices and RDAs as soon as I have the coils and keep this thread updated. Obviously, I’ll start low with the settings for safety sake. If all else fails, I’ll need to look at getting an RDA that’s suited for the task.
Avail for 39.99 @ element vape. It’s a great MTL tank very easy to build. The mod is only 18650 but battery last a long time. I use it for vaping pipe/tobacco flavors.
Update : So I got a few coils and ran a single coil setup in my Digiflavor Drop at 0.8ohm turned the airflow down to one little hole. I then played around with the wattage starting at 10w, slowly going up till I reached 20w. Bottom line is, I don’t want to die. Not yet, anyways.
So I did some searching and found that most of the RDAs you guys mentioned are no longer available for purchase and it’s rather difficult to find ANY MTL RDAs here in South Africa.
Same thing here in Canada, but not just MTL, all RDA’s period. Stupid government. Anyhow, don’t know if you’re interested, but I found a good selection of RDA’s at Health Cabin. Maybe give that a try. Hope this helps.
Can you tell me what IS available to you? Can you get your hands on a Kayfun either through the classies or a shop? They’re a popular atty among MTLers and should be available. Even a Kayfun clone will be sufficient for testing purposes. I have so many old school MTL atties I wish I could send to you but I imagine it wouldn’t be worth the shipping costs.
