OK I mixed up about 400 mils of different recipes that I’ve been using in the past let it steep till I got some nic I did a big mistake when my nic got here yesterday I added it well lost all flavor compared to what I am use to I use 100 nic vg base cut it with pg 50% so I end up with 50% nic base like I have done before but now it has really messed up my juice big time I use a 6% nic I switched from MYFREEDOME to HEARTLAND for nic trying to get as much as I can from one supplier has anyone else run into this problem or did I do something wrong in my calculations I don’t know if its a figment of my imagination but even when I was running much higher Nic levels I never remember doing this to my flavoring like all the sudden I got it tinny pepper flavor please help
You probably need to let it steep with the nic before you scrap it. Your nic hasn’t bonded yet if you just added it yesterday. It all need to steep together. Heartland nic is usually pretty good.
I think I had 30 or more recipes with the bad nic.
Thank you I will what to see what you find I did put it in a glass 100.mil bottle when I cut it to 50 when I placed my order they did say they just got in a new batch and we’re getting it mixed thanks
O boy am I up set with my self I should know better by now yes just like you described harsh I don’t know if I’m going to have to get used to it or trash this hole batch that is the parts that has got me upset
Thanks for some light and hope I was wondering about that
I have the exact same issue! Here is an email I just sent to Leasure Liquids about the nicotine I received Tuesday. I’ll post the reply.
I received the nicotine the other day, thanks for the quick delivery! However I noticed that its quite a red-ish colour and odor. I bought this as my old nicotine from Vampire Vapes is about 4 months old and from not storing it correctly it has gone a red-ish colour.
Just like the Vampire Vape nicotine this stuff from yourselves has given my DIY juice a very harsh and peppery taste that lasts for 3 - 4 minutes after vaping. I’ve let the juice breath for 24 hours and it’s been steeping for about another 24 hours closed off and its still the same.
I done a 50ml batch with 3mg nic so that works out at 2.08ml of 72mg nic. The recipe I followed is this one: Check cookies
I made a second batch and still the same. I’ve tested my VG and PG on a dripper and its smooth no harsh or peppery taste at all soon as I introduce the nicotine it’s like a super harsh hit. My only conclusion is the nicotine is off.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
yes that is what i am experiencing and been trying to vape it today is wiping my throat out the juice i added it to i had been testing ever two to three days past week i was out of nic when it arrived and my juice was ready ruined about 500 mils of juice second time in two months i checked with a juice master he said wish full thinking in be-leaving steeping the nic would help after 24 hours i have learned my lesson the hard way were he works they add the nic the moment they sell the juice i am running across others that say heart land nic leaves a funny taste i fail to see any thing funny about this
THE PART THAT REALLY GETS ME I STORE MY NIC AT ROOM TEMP dark and using MY-FREEDOM witch comes in a glass bottle good to the last drop
Upon delivery of nic, might try to let pepper nic breath before mixing. I have read, haven’t the need to try this, that you should place the nic in a large glass clear bowl and place cheese cloth over the bowl opening. Store in a cool dry dark place for 24 hours. Then go ahead and pour the nic back into original container and it should be ok to go.
Sounds like a carrier such as alcohol might be used and this dissipates the fumes. Said to help eliminate the peppery taste.
I doubt it - usually it’s declared as nicotine and/or PG/VG and nothing else. Nicotine is a volatile so leaving it in an open container means the nicotine dissipates into the air. Do not do this with 100mg nic - 10% nicotine is not that much but you should still be careful and not work with it a long time without good ventilation (just adding a bit to a bottle is OK of course)…
No I keep it sealed I believe I am going to test it to make sure it is 10% /100 after real good shack I pulled 50 mils out of the new bottle cut with 50 mils of PG to get 100 mil 50vg 50pg 50 nicotine bace in my glass bottle added 14.4 mils to my juice 12% witch should put my nic at 6 /per 120 mil 25pg 75 vg but it’s all most seams like it much higher nic something masking the flavor and real harsh I had just tested earlier that day flavors were really good before adding the nic for me anyway I only been DIY for past 8 months I just recently started adding the nic a few batches back after 3/5 days of steepin seam to work for me much easier and only glove up once going to order nic tomorrow from were I normally do finally get some decent mixes and destroy at the end
Peppery nic is usually “just” a sign of bad quality - If you want to make sure it’s the nic’s fault, mix an unflavored juice with nic and see if it’s still there
This is quite true but as many of us here on ELR have found out, Heartland Vapes Nic is decent quality. I find these results quite unusual to say the least. I and many others use Heartland Vapes Nic with wonderful results…
Ditto what @ringling said. I have been using Heartland’s nic for a long time and never had an issue at all. But, I haven’t had to order in about 6 months until now. I just ordered a litre of 100mg on Tuesday and it will be here tomorrow. I’ll let ya’ll know if there is an issue with it for sure.
Well my Juice is still peppery. It’s really noticeable on the first chuff of the day and then it seems to peter out I think as the tank heats up it tends to loose the peppery taste. Or if I haven’t vaped in a few hours I get the hit.
Here is the reply to the email I sent:
Nicotine varies in colour from batch to batch. Our Nicotine is manufactured within the UK from a certified Laboratory which produces nicotine replacements patches etc for well known High Street Chemist. It is all fully certified. I believe that Vampire Vape use the same supplier. The Nicotine which you have is actually only a few weeks old so obvious concerns that you are saying that it may have gone off. We mix here every day and I have not experienced the pepper taste. If you are not happy with it, please return it to us at the Smeed Dean address below so I can examine it and issue a refund if necessary

Terry
Well I guess that’s fair enough I’m going to let this steep a few more days. I wouldn’t mind but the nicotine is the most expensive part and can render juice un vapable!
I have this bottle in the fridge, I’m now squeezing the bottle to get all the air out before putting the cap on as well.
This pepper taste is really starting to piss me off!
It was perfect before the nic was added so it has to be the nic I am unsure if the 10% nic I got is 10 ?15?12? When I started It reminds me of when someone I now stops by and say try my new juice hands me his mod and I take a vape to cough my head off I ask how much nic are you using he say 3% I SAY BULL SHIT I found out latter he uses 98% /998 nic and try to cut it Chinese nic at that
This sounds more like a problem with metal leeching. I too have noticed exactly what you describe. First chugs of the day, or sitting for hours. The difference (most likely) between you and I is that I vape no flavor juice. In the morning I can taste the excess metal taste and yes, I cough my ass off if I inhale the first hits of the day. I no longer inhale the first hits of the day till I’m reasonably sure I have gotten the metal stuff cleared. I highly recommend you blend up some no flavor juice and try this. You’ll see what I’m talking about. I’m really starting to wonder what grades of stainless steel the tanks are made of. I no longer use kanthal so I can no longer blame the kanthal…
Well folks… I really hate to report this, but I received my 100mg/ml Litre of Nic in VG base today, shook it well, opened it up and poured out a 60ml bottle full. As I was pouring it out, my heart sank, because I could smell it… yah, ya’ll experienced folk know what I’m talkin about… that ‘old nic’, ‘peppery’ aroma. I am just sickened by this, but I wrote a note to my favorite vendor in hopes THEY REMAIN my favorite and do the right thing.
We shall see… more to come.
Maybe they got an off batch? Too much good word of mouth and they had to fill too many orders and it slipped thru QC?
Could do a side by side nic comparison. 2 mils w and w/o cheesecloth then vape? Wondering if cheesecloth remedy is viable?
I have no cheesecloth right now. I’d try to go out and buy some tomorrow, but I’m going to visit my baby grandaughter in OK City tomorrow. If I get a chance to get some in the next couple of days, I’ll try it. I’m doubtful, but willing to try.
