Old Aerotank Coils

I saw a video on wrapping a coil on two drill bits wired together. It made an OBLONG coil That filled up the space vertically and kept it small horizontally away from the side walls. Hope this helps. The video was an older guy on a U-tube video, and I had done a search for re-building disposable duel coil atomizer heads.to save money.

Maybe itā€™s the tiny situation. The draw is different than on coils with larger chimneys ectā€¦ the ones you build. I like my kanger coils oh so much. They are about 1.8 ohms and give me a good mouth hit. I donā€™t like to deep breath an air tunnel to consume my vapor. Do you know what I mean? I can tell the difference even in my Atlantis where the coil head is larger. Donā€™t like it as much as a tiny coil head and also like a tiny drip tip. PIN-POINT vapor onto my tongue versus wind tunnel down the trachea and into the lungs. Itā€™s probably because I DONT have much lungs left after smoking 35 years.

I just add a bit of extra cotton.

Well, Kayfun Lite Plus V2 can be set to have a more restricted airflow than Kanger clearos, plus it comes with a very very narrow drip tip. In the world of rebuildables you have options.

And even my Goblin with two extra huge 3mm air holes can be set with tight airflow. But it allows you to have proper lung inhales too. Because options.

I didnā€™t want rebuilding for a very long time and I had many reasons too. I now regret, I should have started with RDAs and RTAs straight away.

Mesh wicking is a not something youā€™d want to get into @Joya. Though some folks say itā€™s the best flavor youā€™ll ever get from a wick (in my opinion it is), the process of getting the wick set up properly is TRULY a pain in the butt. I wicked and vaped genesis style atomizers for quite a long while, so I know first hand the trials and tribulations of mesh wicking. Stick with Japanese cotton.

Just for an example of mesh wicking, hereā€™s a YouTube vid of a guy doing a mesh wick for a Nextgen RTA; it should be enough to scare anyone away.

I havenā€™t watched the video you sent me yet, but Iā€™ve seen one and realize the tendency for shorts and how you must build up a carbon layer to negate shorts from the wire mesh which is conductive. Iā€™ll watch it, and probably appreciate your convincing me. After all, Iā€™d rather be making my jewelry rather than fighting with shorts. I had a battery go POW on me yesterday. It was one of the Efest that are re-wrapped and not actually the amperage they are labeled. I tried to use it in a mechanical mod (a 4-nine) and had a coil with the resistance of .8, which put me in the safe zone. Well, I decided at that moment announcing it to my husbandā€¦ā€œIā€™m done with mechanical modsā€. I had bought two, gave one away and had kept the copper 4-nine. It has a copper Plume Veil RDA on it that has a terrible copper taste to it. Well, I put the whole setup in my 'Give Away" pile. As a new Vaper, I wanted to try out different setups in order to figure out what I like. I donā€™t like the mechanicals anyway, so thatā€™s one safety risk I can easily eliminate. I seem to be collecting several things in my give away pile. Do you have any suggestions on a place I could send the lot to and possibly get about 1/4th the amount I originally paid? If there is a 'Used site" other than EBay, Iā€™d be interested in looking there myself. I like to get rid of my excess stuff so it doesnā€™t appear that I am a hoarder or going overboard on this vape supply shopping. If it sounds like Iā€™ve said this before, itā€™s because I do the same thing with my beading suppliesā€¦ I get rid of the excess so I donā€™t have too much stuff laying around. As for what I plan to buy nextā€¦ Well if a really good RBA comes out possibly or maybe a Sigelie Mini or 50 watt. I have a 150 watt Sigelie, 2 Cloupors, and IVP Mini and several other small battery type things. I like the smaller vapes. Recently I just got a few tanks that have higher resistance to run on the Cloupors and 1100 batteries and ITaste 3.0. I got a couple of ELeaf tanks and a couple of Kanger tanks. No rebuildables-- they all have replacable coils. Well, take care. Thanks for all your help.

You might try posting your ā€œfor saleā€ gear right here in the Trade section. It has been cleared by the admin. that we can sell gear among members. Other than that, eBay is about the only place I would sell stuff like that. You need to get a PayPal account though; take my advice, change money in no other form, or youā€™ll get screwed.

Does the copper Plume Veil have a stainless steel deck or gold plated?

And as @Jimk SS Mesh wicking is not fun. Even after all the work it takes to get it setup properly a simple bump can cause hotspots and crappy taste. I have a sheet of it ill never touch again.

I was afraid of mesh for quite a while, but one guy from r/ecr_eu made an ultra thorough tutorials and I pulled the trigger. Turned out to be very easy. 30 minutes of fiddling and Iā€™ve build Kraken which Iā€™m using for two months now. Feels like only now itā€™s time to rewick (:

For old time sake, I almost purchased the Nextgen. But then, I had my wife hit me on the head with a frying pan to remind me how much it hurt to deal with mesh wicks.

I would have to change my mesh out fairly often due to the coil gunk factor. My vape would start tasting pretty foul and burnt after about 3 or 4 days. Either it was my juice or perhaps the extreme amount of vaping I did on that particular genesis atty. Either way, I pitched mesh for cotton and have been much happier ever since.

I have no clue how you are making a mesh wick last for 2 months without the juice tasting bad. Itā€™s a secret Latvian mesh build.

First of all, this is a YT playlist I used.

Now to gunking. It is very simple, I drain leftovers every day, wash the whole thing and then dry burn coils and wicks. Every two weeks I remove the build, throw away coils, blow torch the wicks and wrap new coils around them. Takes about 5-10 mins. A lot less fiddling than cotton for me. I also wrap micro-coils and juice burn them on the wick - no hot spots and shorts after that. Plugā€™nā€™play!

P.S. I wrap micro-coils around screwdriver and then insert mesh inside them.

Nice vid. I have much appreciation and empathy for those that have the patience for mesh wicks. Iā€™m not in the mesh wick club anymore; cotton is king in my book. I tried cotton in Genny style attys; trying to bastardize a mesh build with a cotton build didnā€™t work so well.

Iā€™ve seen the mesh wick builds and Iā€™m glad I started after cotton was introducedā€¦ More Power To Mesh Wick Users!!! :fist:

Sorry I didnā€™t reply sooner. You are not the first person to ask me this and sorry to say I donā€™t know. I got rid of it. I took it (along with some other stuff I didnā€™t want) to a vape store and the guy gave me store credit at a rate of about 1/4 what I paid for the stuff. I also gave him 3 batteries I just didnā€™t want to use. I got a ZMaz mini. NO, I donā€™t really like it and wished I had spent a little more and got a Sigelei mini instead. Other stuff I got rid of wasā€¦ A V-Star I paid about $45 for from Fastech and a 4-nine copper mechanical mod along with the Plume Veil copper RBA. In all I only got $40 store credit. Not much, but better than nothing. I donā€™t like the menu on the ZMax. No matter what, I just canā€™t really figure it out. Ya, I looked at a video and even made notes on the instructions. Iā€™ve got it working well enough to use it. Set it to the Watts mode. On the video, they said if you put it in that mode, you donā€™t have to adjust it if you change tanks/coils.

Reply againā€¦ You convinced me. I am not even going to try wire mesh. Being a newbie, I want to try out a bit of everything but this is one thing I think I will skip. Iā€™m having a hard enough time with just making coils and getting the resistance right. Mine like to come out too low. Recently I was told if you squish the wraps close together it makes it have lower resistance. So, Iā€™m going to experiment with not squishing as much. In other words leaving space between wraps so I will get 1.2 ohms instead of .4 ohms, for example. I also believe I should use larger diameter wire, i.e., 28 gauge instead of 24 gauge and make more wraps. Corrrect??? Itā€™s possible I have something backwards because things are just not coming out cut and dry for me. I like to make a little knot with my wick. I knowā€¦ less cotton/wick is better. All the other info likeā€¦ Make both coils identical to eachother, place the air holes in front of the coils, put them close to the posts but not touching, get rid of hot legs by inserting the screw driver in and adjusting them. Test for hot legs before you add the juice. Well, it is like riding a bike and iā€™m feeling pretty comfortable with it, but my resistance is still awful low. Iā€™m wornderingā€¦ What happens when you twist two wires together, i.e., 32 gauge twisted, then make a coil? What happens to resistance? Will it be lower or higher with the same length wire?

The steam-engine coil calculator is a godsend for wrapping coils. I use it as a starting place. Obviously you still need to check before you vape, but its better than playing the guessing game.
