Had one as a teen a long time ago. Very sweet dog, but she hated any type of uniform. Could never figure out why. Mailman, nurses, police etc. Regularly dressed people were always welcomed.
Who knows what happened to the dog before you got it. May have been kicked (any bad experience). What needs to be done is nip any agressive behavior in the bud. The dog takes it’s Q’s and discipline from the owner. That’s why most shelters include training classes with the adoption (not to train the dog but to train the owner).
Took 3 1/2 years for my girl to warm up to strangers. Not mean but would avoid. Then she figured out strangers gave her biscuits now she runs to them looking for a hand out. All positive reinforcement.
I can relate to that but not from a dog I owned but an old boss of mine.
Many moons ago I worked for a small family owned company eventually leaving after about 18 months. Just towards the latter part of that time my boss acquired a striking Rottweiler puppy which was abused by a black man. I’m unsure if that’s the politically correct way of describing him and apologies if it’s not and I offend anybody but the colour of his skin is integral to the story. He knew this because the bloke lived above him in a big block of flats.
When I say striking that is very true as he truly was adorable but extremely timid. He called him Ben after the Grizzly Adams TV show.
A couple of years later I was driving past his dads house noticed his car outside and as it was Christmas I thought I’d knock on the door and wish them all a happy Christmas etc. Upon knocking I just heard this deep booming bark and saw the dog running to the front door through the glass which really was an intimidating sight. Ben was absolutely enormous.
I’m positive he remembered me as the door was opened and I could almost see him thinking as his head tilted and he relaxed.
Once inside I was offered a drink and the general chit chat ensued with Ben just curled up snoozing. His sister came in with a toddler and the little girl just ran straight to Ben woke him up and was crawling all over him. I said wasn’t he worried that Ben could lose it and snap at the girl because we one bite he could do some serious damage. He was clearly pissed off but I didn’t hear him growl once. He said that he wasn’t as the two enjoy a fantastic relationship and the dog was very placid.
Ben was a gentle giant apart from where black men were concerned. If when he was bringing him for a walk or whatever he had to keep a very watchful eye out as if Ben ever saw a black man he went off and as he was so big he could hardly control him. It appears Ben hadn’t forgotten his earlier life where he was beaten even though he had brought him to one of those dog training schools as a precaution.
I was thinking about deleting this as not to offend but I’m not racist and have actually experienced discrimination. It’s the facts of what happened but obviously if it’s deemed offensive then mods please feel free to delete.
She was given to me as a pup. She couldn’t have been more than two months old so we could never figure out the hatred of uniforms. A friend found her abandoned on a golf course so we named her Fairway. My mom always said she loved old black and white movies because she would sit and watch them with her curled up on the couch with a blanket on cold rainy saturdays, but I think it was the tub of buttered popcorn they shared.
Racist dog! Send him to canine privilege school and cultural sensitivity classes, and, well, whatever else you can think of.
I have a cat that has some triggers that I can’t figure out. Seemingly out of the blue he’ll freak and run. He is a rescue so I’m pretty confident it’s from past experience.
Sounds about right
Right u r my friend!
Ben would be well and truly dead by now as I’m talking approximately 35 years ago. That was the last time I saw him but I can’t stress how enormous he was.
Without doubt the biggest Rottweiler I have ever seen and I could well and truly imagine him guarding the gates of hell.
Hi.
Totally new here and to diy. but I been in the online vaping community for 7+ years
I didn’t quite understand the 24hrs comment, was the at a typo?
Agree about giving credit where it’s due and agree with not posting any old rubbish.
The decline in the engagement of old skool members is across the hobby.
I think back then the whole thing was a hobby. The mods, the attys, the juice, coils and builds. Etc.
Since the mainstream commercial products coming out have improved so much there are fewer people coming in to vaping that are looking for ways to fix or improve on the vape they are getting. Plus what was the high end game is much less buoyant.
Most people I suspect buy a set up from te local vape shop plus some juice and never even join a forum or FB group.
Back then it was necessary.
I just arrived and look forward to learning. I really hope I don’t get as annoyed as you after 24hrs in the Diy mixing
Lol. For me, smoking, like many other bad choices that I became addicted to, began in the early to mid 1980s. I saw other people doing what I thought was cool and I wanted to fit in. One of the phrases that they use in recovery programs is that your recovery is to stay off your addiction one day at a time.: Stay in that 24-hour day! I couldn’t have a cigarette that day, no matter what. If I still wanted one tomorrow I’ll deal with it then.
One Day at a Time, I have added up over 6 years “free from cigarettes”.
I think many of the older members probably settle on specific flavors and/or recipes and after a while just start lurking. I mean for many people just getting into the vape world, they go and purchase tons of flavorings, then go about testing the flavors, then go about mixing the flavors to try and come up with something vapable, it just gets very time intensive. After a couple years, they probably stopped testing the newest version of strawberry and mixing up the newest apple recipe, they know what they like and have 15 different mods and 20 different tanks… and have been using them for years. The newness has worn off and they don’t see the use of adding a additional critique for a flavor that has a dozen other comments listed already.
Personally, I’m a lurker. And comments I made at one time or another to some of the members of the forum… that are/were made in jest and (to be honest) pretty crude (and we all laughed and tried to one up each other)… was kinda frowned upon, newer people looked at things as members being hostile towards one another. So things had to be curtailed… Beating up on friends and just waiting for what someone was going to say to my comments (in fun of course), was one of the things that kept my interest and kept me chatting.
Well @CallMeTut, I love it when you DON’T lurk (hehe, i.e. post).
Hehe, yes, GOOD TIMES !!! Anyone who was REALLY paying attention, KNEW, it was all in jest.
Yeah. Curtailed it was, BUT, it killed a LOT of the fun at the same time.
Hehe, agreed.
Yeah, those were the days. I miss all the raunchy fun.
Well thank you …Wait were you talk8ng about the dog or me
You, big boy!! jk
