I know you all have probably seen the #AAFL hashtag in the past,
AnAdvocateForLiberty (Tim) and Lady Liberty (Cassie) have been active members in the DIY community and have been advocates for anyone in need in the past but now have fallen on some tough times themselves and could use some support from the community, Cassie just had her leg amputated below the knee and Tim could use some help to install a wheelchair ramp ASAP and also help with hospital bills etc, any contributions would be greatly appreciated ![]()
“This past week has been one of the most stressful of my life. Ashley our rabbit and very much our therapy pet got bitten by a Brown Recluse and after a misdiagnosis and downward turn the right diagnosis was made and treatments although not optimal as they would have been if caught sooner were going well and she was improving. The stress of that and other things were causing me to have heart issue symptoms and overdoing things to try ad relieve stress increased this issue so i had to go into hospital despite not wanting to leave Ashley because I suspected she may get depressed while healing.
I failed every test and marker trace showing I had heart issue for sure so had to go to Cath Lab. In Cath Lab it showed tearing where a clot was formed at branch of LAD(Widowmaker) and a tiny piece of clot was left behind but it was healing on it’s own from when I took nitro and extra aspirin and felt clot let loose prior to coming in. Was on Heparin Drip for 2 more days and came home.
Ashley had lost a lot of weight in the 3 days I was gone as she stopped eating as I had feared and faded away then passed laying down with me 2 days later at midnight peacefully. 8 hours after that LadyLiberty (aka Cassie) had a appointment with the surgeon that amputated her toe and the wound had finally finished healing the day I had come home and changed bandage but was badly swollen. My car alternator died 1/8 mile from the hospital so we missed appointment. As I checked wires under hood and called friend to come jump start us. I said out loud on way back into car “How can this week get any worse?”… never ever ask that and here is why. I got back into car and LadyLiberty says to me her foot is bleeding bad, looked down and blood is pouring from front of her boot and all over her toes.
After 5 jump starts I get the car home as it wouldn’t keep a charge. Switched to POS spare car and ran erand’s quick to get my glucose sensors and such. They when we got home instead of going in to check the foot as we were planning she could not even take a step from car. I took care of everything inside and took her to the ER. When they opened to boot the entire foots skin was like cheesecloth bleeding blood through the thin skin and tiny holes literally everywhere.
The heaviest 3 antibiotics have been given too her ever since they were started this night and surgery that night to relieve pressure and remove and drain infection. There was a dormant puss pocket that had exploded and the infection had gassed into her ankle and leg bone as well as went into bloodstream. She had to have artificial blood pressure IV to keep up BP for transport to bigger hospital because the blood was still leaking faster than it was being put in.
Since then she has had leg removed below the knee and is healing at the hospital. Current situation with her coming home is we need to install a wheelchair ramp ASAP, local help facilities will take up to a year and half to do so “if” approved. Also although she may be able to cope with the front bathroom I’m going to be putting in a shower stall and handicap toilet as well as a larger door as it is kind of needed to ensure her safety. That and Vet Bills, Both Hospital Bills, Ambulance transfer copay, and Medical supply cost out of nowhere are overwhelming to say the least. The biggest issue is getting the old wheelchair entry way that was filled in because wood had rotted needs to be put back in ASAP so it is ready when she gets home because main entry is on a hill with concrete/stone steps she had trouble using when she had full mobility and constantly fell/tripped on them and walkway. I would never ask under any other circumstances but this isn’t for me, but for her safety when returning home”
