Reducing PG

I see a lt of recipes here with 40-70 % pg. I am looking for advice on what to do to bring these recipes to max pg. can I just add more flavour? Longer steep time? My body has issues with too much PG thanks

@JoJo could probably help out on that one for you Or @ringling😜

It does depend a bit on the equipment you use as to what ratio of VG and PG you can do. Nearly all equipment can do a 70VG and 30PG blend. If you are using subohm equipment then you can do Max VG blends. Unless you buy special flavors that are VG based then your flavoring will be PG based. This means if you have VG based nicotine then Max VG blend will be your flavor (PG) then all the rest will be VG. Notice no added PG. For instance…

Now this would be a 70/30 blend…

Adding more flavor (if PG based) will of course add more PG so the answer is no. You add more VG. Hope this helps…

PS: Being PG is a better carrier of flavor then a longer steep time can be helpful, but it does make a difference of the type of flavors used…

@ringling I do understand that most flavors are pg based and by not adding pg that recipe gives it a max veg blend, but my question is do I need to add more flavors to a 70 pg mix like I see in HIC mixes or can I just keep the flavor % as is and leave out pg. how much flavor difference will this make being that pg is a flavor carrier? Or do I need to add more flavor to get the same results with no added pg?

Hang on… So your asking if say mix A is a recipe that’s 10% flavor at a 70/30 blend, would you need to make it a higher % flavor to recreate the same recipe at Max VG?
…
I was doing 70/30 but now been mixing Max, and can’t say I taste much difference I mix around 10% flavor %

@TRisin that’s exactly what I am asking, thank you for your opinion. If I understand you correctly you are saying I can mix the same flavor % , omit the pg and get a similar result?

Why would anyone mix a 70/30 mix then? Why not just enough dilution to allow whatever tank they are using to function?

Biggest reason is that PG is a better flavor carrier. I don’t notice a huge difference from 70/30 to 85/15, but that doesn’t mean other people won’t.

Oh, I see. Usually that answer would be no if you are only upping the VG to 70, but, I’m sure you could find a few that would say the opposite. 30% PG still has a good amount of PG for a carrier so your results should be very close to a higher PG blend. The throat hit should be less though. Hopefully that is not a necessity for you…

Exactly what you want to do, bravo !!!

Lot of people use both Subohm Application and non Subohm Application on a daily basis. They often blend 70/30 blend because it will work well for both applications…

One other thing, there are many that feel a Max VG blend will require a little more flavor, but not 70/30 blend…

Thanks guys

You can always Max VG a recipe (by clicking the ā€œmax vgā€ box when you adapt) and give it a whirl. Assuming of course your setup can handle it. If it doesn’t seem like it has enough flavor, make a note to increase everything a little and do it again. Then you can get an idea of whether or not you’ll need to increase flavors in the future.
