RTAs failed me/I've failed my RTAs?

They’re two pretty different mods. The Luxotic Surface is the regulated version of the Luxotic BF. They’re both single 18650, but the Surface has adjustable wattage and a small screen. The squonk bottles use the metal rod system which I love. They’re small mods for what they are. I like the Surface a lot.

The MF is larger but can hold a 21700 battery. The bottle has silicon tubing vs the rod. I had zero trouble with my battery door. The magnets are strong and it just snaps into place.

Squonk bottles are usually made of silicon these days. It’s sometimes hard to get rid of discoloration and also odor. Some flavors just don’t want to go away unless you really clean them.

In my experience, I’ve bought lots of extra squonk bottles that I haven’t used. The two that (usually) come with the mod are enough unless you constantly switching flavors in them. I usually pick one flavor and that’s all I use with a certain squonk mod. I say this owing lots of different squonk mods and also knowing which liquids I really enjoy.

I always watch reviews, the problem is, most reviewers LOVE every atty no matter how much they suck. Plus, if it’s meant to be MTL even if the thing has got HUGE airflow they’ll invariably say it’s fantastic for MTL. I’ve learned to take reviewers with a boulder-sized grain of salt. :smirk: I’ve taken to reading reviews in the hopes that they’re more honest. (crossing fingers)

I’m more used to looking at attys for flavor based on the shape of their chamber. I’ve never been taught to look at them any other way. I’ve always looked at things from a MTL perspective. (based on my most recent purchases that’s too restrictive for me, so need something w/ wider airflow). So, deck-ward ho!

btw, it would really help if there were more female reviewers. I watched a few reviews by Zophie Vapes years ago, and she really didn’t impress me. I’m sure there are lots of guys that watch her because of her cleavage rather than anything she says. I watched her do a build/wick of a dual coil RTA that was so incredibly wrong I don’t know how she was able to vape on it.

Well, it looks like I may have been looking for the wrong things in my search for RTAs. I’d still like some good RDL RTAs, but it seems I should be giving RDAs another chance.

Wow, Dragons, Norse mythology, and the “Profile” - couldn’t Wotofo come up with anything cooler/hipper?

Oh, is that one of those Emergency Room “foreign object” things? You’d be amazed the number of times people have claimed to “accidentally sit” on (generally huge) phallic-shaped objects.

Since I know nothing about squonkers, how do most generally operate, with silicone tubing or metal rods? Which has the least chance of failing? From what @INOIROC was saying about his MF, he was having all sorts of problems with leaking, but sounds like you haven’t.

Just curious, how many squonkers do you have? What about everyone else?

Thanks, that answers some questions I had. Some of the ones @JiM210 was linking me to didn’t have extra bottles even on FastTech. I’m the sort of person that’s extra-cautious, always getting extra glass tanks even though I can only think of one tank that’s gotten broken, and not by me. (but you never know!)

I have seven squonker’s, only three use bottles. Two of those came with extra bottles. I haven’t had any reason to use an extra. As long as we have access to Chinese vape products we will be able to get replacement bottles if needed. They are available in all shapes and sizes, silicone or plastic, and often a variety of colors. I just rinse them between switching flavors. Only once have I had a flavor that wanted to stay with the bottle enough to make me really want it gone. I used white Vinegar, then Vodka, followed by a good water rinse. That worked and only takes a couple of minutes. You can use a little baking soda with the vinegar. I only used the Vodka because I didn’t want any residual smell from the Vinegar.

As for a restricted lung RDA’s, I’m not really able to recommend any that I’m familiar with. One way to find a good candidate is to look at the variety of MTL clones on fasttech, 3AVape, 2Avape, etc. and read the customer comments. If three people say one is too airy for MTL then it’s probably a good candidate for RDL. Reddit is also a good resource for comments and reviews. -->EDIT there seems to be a sizable group of MTL users that think any atomizer with air holes that are visible without the use of a microscope are ‘like, way to loose for MTL’ :joy:

The only current, non-clone I can think of is the new Vandy Vape Requiem. I’ve only read about it so I can’t actually vouch for it at all but the description is that it’s capable of MTL/RDL/DL, comes with three different sized drip tips and two top caps. EDIT–> I’m not sure if it has different top caps.

This discussion thread on Reddit lists the names of a handful of Restricted DL RTA’s. It’s a year old but I think the atomizers were well evolved a year ago.

@FL_Vaper Here is a discussion thread from ECF forum asking about Squonk(bottom feed) RDA’s that are restricted DL. It’s two years old. @muth was part of this discussion.

I have lots and lots of them. The metal rod ones are great I think. You just slide the bottle off of it and fill. When it’s full, it’s an easy task to slide it back into place.

I never got why Mike Vapes seemed to hate metal rods. He’d cut them off with a dremmel and put a bottle with tubing in instead. F that. The metal tube ones are fine.

It seems like most of my squonkers have their own bottles. Some are interchangeable but not often.

I really enjoyed using my MF when it worked. Like I said, it didn’t leak like crazy, just enough to be a little annoying. It was just the battery ribbon that would get a bit wet. The ribbon touched the battery of course so that got a little wet too. They’re nice mods that function well. The overall price I paid for them was like $19. I’d buy more right now for that price, if I had the opportunity. To tell you the truth, I’ve been leaning towards single 21700 squonk mods vs single 18650 ones. The cells are much better and that’s a fact. The downside is you sacrifice size because the batteries are bigger.

The requiem is a decent rda. Very nice flavor, easy to build on and yes, you can get restricted airflow as well as wide open to satisfy most dl vapers without being overly airy. You just have to be cautious of the force applied to the airflow caps. They can break easily if you push too hard or try to pry off. I wasn’t disappointed at all.

Oh no, what did I say? did I stick my foot in my mouth?

no, of course not.

Wow, this shows how little I know of squonkers. I thought they all used bottles. How do the four that don’t use bottles feed juice into the RDAs? What are the names of them so I can look at them and learn more? I obviously need to do some research about this whole topic.

Yeah, I’m sure that’s the only reason you have Vodka around, to clean out your squonk bottles. I only have it for my essential oil stuff…honestly!

My squonker’s that do not use the traditional juice bottle:

Steam Crave Hadron 228 with add-on Squonk Backpack. I have two of them. It’s a big heavy power setup and it works very well.

Asmodus Spruzza(below, center). it has a built in tank with a pump lever. Innokin Bastion Liftbox(below, right), has a built-in glass tank and uses partial vacuum to feed juice as you draw your vape. It’s difficult to tune. it works ok if you use the right atomizer, airflow setting, and tank air inlet adjustment. Using the Vapefly Galaxies MTL RDTA it almost fed enough juice. Since it is an RDTA, the small reserve in the atomizer tank helped to make up for the inability of the vacuum to self sustain extended vaping. The supply in the RDTA tank would last four or five times longer with the vacuum assist vs. without. That made for a pretty good setup. When the RDTA tank ran dry, you just block the air holes with you fingers and give a nice long draw without using the power switch. That would create enough vacuum to refill the RDTA tank. My Lyftbox chip died. It’s a useless brick now. Too bad, I really loved the small size, comfortable hand feel, the fire bar that worked very well, and that carbon fiber side panel!:gem:

Reviewers do all sorts of inexplicable things. Saying attys and mods are great when they’re not is the most obvious example, but yeah, I’ve seen some stuff over the years that have made me go, “wtf?”

Yeah, I’d pay $19, too! I’m not seeing the MF for that price, unfortunately. I’m not seeing any squonker for anywhere near that.

I don’t have any 2x700 mods. I’ve glanced at 2x700 batteries on Mooch’s list, but since I vape <30W, I’ve never had the need for anything with a larger capacity than 18650s. And, like you said, there’s the downside of the size.
